Zenithink ZT-180 1GHz 10" tablet

I'm just wondering, if I rooted my phone and I have the wifi hotspot app from verizon, can I use this free because of the root or will I still be charged?

Can anybody tell me how e-book reader work? Meaning, my wife read a lot of books but she buy from different places like Borders, Barnes & nobles and Amazon. I heard (don't know if it is true) that e-books of this places mentioned above comes in different format extensions. Do I need to have a program on my computer to convert this e-books to a extension that "aldiko" or "Laputa" Reader understand or automatic this both readers (or if there any other reader) will read doesn't matter what extension it is?

Sorry my ignorance, I am new at this, I don't have a tablet (wainting my zt-180).
Any info will be highly appreciated.

I use the Calibre application on my PC (Ubuntu Linux). It can convert ebooks to/from many formats. There is a windows version too:

calibre - E-book management

The Linux version has the option to run as a server, I don't know if the windows version has the same option. I then install the Wordplayer app on the tablet. This can connect to your Calibre server, and download ebooks to the tablet.

WordPlayer:Reading Released

You can also install separate readers, such as Kindle, Amazon and Adobe PDF reader. I found the Adobe PDF reader to be best for PDF files.

I would suggest for PDF files, use EzPDF reader. Its .99 cents, but its great! It even has the visual turning page when you go to the next page of your PDF books.

Now... here comes the questions...

Is this thread: How to Burn the 1020 Firmware Image on the Zenithink ZT-180 & Setup Android Market | Dreambeta apply for install 1030 firmware or the steps are different?

If not, does anybody have a step-by-step how to install 1030?

It may sound stupid for you all but I am knew at this and have no clue so before I screw up my first tablet I am here to listen and learn.

Thanks to everybody that make this forum great.

Would be the same as they show for 1020... They did a Really Nice Job with those step by steps!

Found this on ebay.... zt-180 for $139 and free delivered and the best is from USA so that mean, eBAY Buyer protection will come in handy if it is a scam.

You know, it looks great, other than it says its actually a wireless "N" nic card. Can anyone confirm?

Recently purchased a Zenithink on eBay and it has taken some time to come to terms with how things are done via the Android OS, but I'm getting there!

I downloaded the Free CSipSimple from the Android Market (read some positive reviews of it) and used their "Basic" Wizard to input my username; p/w & sip.pennytel.com

All going along nice and easy, Pennytel shows up Registered, but test calls shows it is dialing, but it gets no further ie calls not completed, doesn't ring phone

Any suggestions on why this might be so & how to get it to work

My Setup:
Zenithink connected via my wireless LAN (no problems emailing or Wed surfing)
Billion 7404 VGPX, wireless modem/router/ata
Phones connected for both PSTN & VoIP on Billion
Pennytel Freedom Acct (allows simultaneous calls)
PennySIM in our Mobiles

Any help appreciated :)

Ditto!

However one shortcoming I found w/ Aldiko was in FW updating. After I updated to 1013 I had to re import all 611 books, that took a LONG timne.

I have been told that if I leave the user.imgae out of the update next time I wont lose anything.

I'll try that, but you can ABSOLUTELY use aldiko for all your reading needs OR if you would prefer keepnig everything straight there is oth a Kindle AND a Nook app available for android.

The GREAT part about pairing calibre up with Aldiko is you can convert PDF's WORD files, wll kids of things, and use the samd niterface .

Thinking about the ZT-180 but am seeing lots of fix and update postings on this thread. This product is what I'm looking at:

Zenithink.us - Zenithink ZT-180 Android Tablets Shipped from USA

I'm looking for something that just works out of the box and is hassle free. Does this product meet that criteria?

I just purchased my tablet from here: ZT-180-102 PAD 10.2 inch TFT Android 2.1 with an 8GB TF card, plus shiping I'm only paying 211.05. It also comes with a one year warranty. You might want to save yourself a few dollars.

Ok guys,.......I know you already told me about the VPN connections and what not. Actually got it to work, so I had thought. I was able to establish a VPN connection, then used ES File Manager to view the folders. But the moment I try and access the content of those folders, it keeps saying timed out. This defeats the purpose of what I was trying to do. BUT I know I can still use RDP, which I've done several times before. But it would seem to me something changes once you establish the VPN connection. Because Once you disconnect, it gives you a hard time trying reconnect. And still, once you reach your computer, you can see the shared folders, but cant go in them because it keeps timing out. Has anyone else ran into this problem and found a solution?

Hello everyone,

I just got a zt180 with firmware version 20101012 listed. I would like to update to the most current version and downloaded it as recommended. There is a folder for usb drivers that I put on a seperate disk.
When I plug in the zt180 it asks for a driver, but when I point to the disk with the usb file it says there is no usb found.
I'm 65 years old and not very good with computers and this has me stumped.
I want to update because I loaded my wifi and when I go upstairs it has a hard time finding a signal even though my laptop has no problem.
Any simple help would be appreciated, I don't know the technical stuff so well.

Demi

You keep saying disk, The new firmware should be in a folder on your pc. There should be a folder that says USB drivers( the drivers are in there), and a burntool exe, then 4 or 5 files in it. There is a video here: Zenithink ZT-180 Android Tablet Blog Blog Archive Upgrading to 1020 Firmware on Zenithink ZT-180 The process is the same for whatever firmware version your installing.

Thanks for your help. The new firmware is in a folder on my computer, but when I pointed to it the system said it could not find the driver. So, I copied a copy of USB to a blank disc and put it in the disk drive since the system asked if I had a disk with the usb on it. The usb file has 2 files in it secbulk and secbulk.sys is this right? or is there something else that I have to look for that will load the usb drivers?

Thanks

Those are what you need But they Only work for 32Bit Windows OS... so if you only have a 64bit Windows system you'll need to find a 32bit system from a friend to burn with... of a Linux system now that there is a linux burntool pack available over on Slatedroid...

Thanks,
I got a 32 bit system and it worked. I loaded the 1030 firmware and now at startup it sits at the little android display and wont go any further. Any suggustions? This is a real pain.... Pressing that little reset button doesnt help

There might be one extra file in the folder. One says 1080x600, other one says 1080x527 or something. You have to use the one that is the same as your tablets resolution. I used the 1080x600. You might have to reflash the firmware.

Thanks for the reply.
I reloaded both image files and tried going back to 1020 and 1013.
All do the same thing, stop at the little android screen.
Is there a way I can reload the android software? I have an external drive
that I use for my other PC.

Did you only burn the right 4 files for Android??? Burntool has 5 lines/settings for files but the second one is for WinCE Only so you should leave that one unchecked... and make sure the other 4 point to the correct files (uboot, kernel, system, udata) for the 1030 version in the directory where ypu unzipped that version...
