Good point.. I just want fastboot and sent ZTE a message bout including it in update.. that was last night so I don't think they responded yet..

Off topic but figured out how they are tether cheacking, it's via TTL so a simple regiedit bypasses it completely on Windows, haven't figured out how yet on a rooted android,

mods please leave this be not starting a discussion just giving a update
 
hi do these steps work becouse I get stock on step 4. 2
  1. Goto official TWRP page and download twrp-2.8.x.x-xxx.img file for your ZTE Zmax Pro. Keep twrp-2.8.x.x-xxx.img file in a separate folder.

  2. Your PC must have ADB & fastboot installed and configured. For quick installation try 15 Second ADB installer. Download link

  3. Now connect your device to your PC and goto twrp folder and press and hold shift then rightclick on white space and "Open command window here".

  4. Now type following commands at command prompt.
    • "adb reboot bootloader" - to boot your device into bootloader.

    • after booting into bootloader type "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.x.x-xxx.img" - this will flash TWRP recovery on your ZTE Zmax Pro.

    • "fastboot reboot" - to reboot your device.

    • After reboot type "adb reboot recovery" - to boot into recovery mode.

No, we don't have twrp whatever site you got that off of is either sketchy at best since we don't have even the stock recovery to build twrp or you were looking at the wrong device

As of right now, no. Please read through the thread and you'll see where we're at with this with this device. No need to be asking what has already been answered.
 
Mods please start deleting useless posts. If you don't have any ideas or anything to contribute, please don't post. This thread has over 500 posts, some magical website claiming to have root is too good to be true and you need to think before posting about it. Nobody wants to waste their time reading countless posts about nothing, contribute or lurk. Hope I'm not the only one who thinks this.
 
Everyone is welcome to post here as long as they're on-topic and courteous / polite, etc. :).

It is admittedly not a short thread by any stretch, but not too bad/long really (IMO :)) and I do understand your frustrations (which are undoubtedly compounded by not yet having root).

Perhaps if @Masterchief87 could keep track of things tried or salient points/notes in the first post, then new folks coming in to the thread could or would hopefully see that and/or they could politely be pointed to it (or another summary post--doesn't have to be the OP's).

You guys really have been (with some minor, now cleaned-up exceptions) most excellent participants in this thread--I do keep up with it with interest and hope that you'll crack this root nut for this device :).
 
I got a response from ZTE 2 days ago. They said fastboot is up to metro pcs. From what I understand. ZTE makes the update rom for the device and give it to the carrier ( metro). The carrier adds the finishing touches like their system files and fastboot. Then we get our update.. anyone know the link to reach out to metro dev team? I want to request fastboot for the upcoming update. We all need to turn up the pressure on metro. If they really appreciate their customers they will grant this simple request..

I think that the key is either ftm mode which is accessed by holding power and volume up, or by holding power volume up and volume down which boots the phone into a mode where only the home key lights up. I believe that this is download mode and might possibly give us access to the bootloader. The big question is what program/drivers we are going to need on the PC end. All ideas are welcome here. If you think you might be able to help don't hesitate.

ZTE says no, can't remember whether it's been tested or not. What's really weird is besides no OTG, even some non OTG peripheral stuff doesn't work as normal. I tried pairing a BT mouse so I could do stuff while the phone was docked, and the cursor wouldn't show up.

I can confirm that USB otg does not work. I went to the best buy a few weeks ago and while I was there I tested it using one of my flash drives and a usb-c otg cable. No dice.
 
I hope y'all get this working. I got the grand max 2 (z988), (cricket),which I hear is basically the same phone. I been checking with kingroot every other day since I had this phone and I got it the first day it came out.King root would not let me even try to root. I tried today because I was bored and too my surprise it let me attempt root! It failed but I see progress being made.
