I never had any problems with my good old Galaxy S3 and tethering.Going to switch to a new phone if this isn't figured out. What phones out there are reliable for this use case?
Which is rather sad they have to go with 128K like that. I would think 1mbps would be nice but fat chance on that.Throttles you to an unusable speed
Actually 128k is 1mbps.Which is rather sad they have to go with 128K like that. I would think 1mbps would be nice but fat chance on that.
Thanks for the explanation there. I suppose I should've said 1 MB/s then.Actually 128k is 1mbps.
Difference between Mbps and MB/s (internet speed) Mbps means megabits per second while MB/s means megaBYTES per second. There are eight bits in a byte, so a megabit is eight times smaller than a megabyte.
You need root, the $60 metro plan and PDAnet / foxfi apk. I read about it on XDA when I had the stylo.. I've been getting texts about changes to metro tethering and data policy. I didn't read them but maybe it will now work with the $30 plan. PDAnet uses your data plan, not the tether plan. Also the $30 plan LTE data gets capped at 2/3gb but the $60 is unlimited LTE ( unless you tether without PDAnet). This is the part where i thing you need root. When you use PDAnet to turn on the hotspot, the stock hotspot activate along side it. You need to go into your settings and turn off the system hotspot. PDAnet should still be on in the background until you turn it off through PDAnet. I've read of people getting 500+GB tethering with this method.. don't know of any other working method. How do you get unlimited tethering with a rooted phone? Do know any website link? Im asking because I was thinking to switch back to my rooted LG K7 and use this phone as a tablet.

How sad.Well, no. You can see videos on YouTube after they hit their data limit. It's 128KB/ps.
I'd appreciate the info on how to do it, thx.I pay for my plan. I pay 60 a month for unlimited everything. And yes I tested the FoxFi connection over Wifi hotspot. The FoxFi + APN combo will bypass most of the hotspot usage, I'm unsure if it blocks everything. If you want I can PM you the instructions on how to do this. Since FoxFi doesn't support USB C... Or whatever is stopping USB tether, Wifi is the only way to share internet.
I need help with that answer. I just upgraded to the $60 plan and I also have the FoxFi however, it's using my plans hotspot and now I'm already almost out of my hotspot data. Please help. Thanks in advance.Anubis, do you pay the for the hotspot, also? I have the hotspot, limited to 5GB/month. I also have FoxFi full unlocked compliments of Blackmart. Did you use WiFi tether for your test?
I did this and it kicked me down to regular 4GI've heard that you can fool the hotspot app by editing your APN to have "dun" at the end of the APN settings... I've tried testing it but I'm not sure if it is working. Does the hotspot allow YouTube without consuming data? If not then I think I've found a working bypass.
Well I'm back and I'm pleased to admit that a combo of APN editing and FoxFi premium will at least semi-bypass the hotspot restrictions. I started earlier today with 30.1GB of total data usage for the month and ever since I edited the APN and used FoxFi hotspot, the total usage for the month boosted to 30.7GB while the hotspot data seems unchanged. You never know for sure though, it might be using small amounts of hotspot data, but who cares? Not enough to make a 100MB difference. I'm going to post this as another topic. Hope this helps you guys out with your data usage!
Hi. Would you mind sending me steps to bypassing hotspot restrictions using FoxFi & changing APN, please. I've been using pdanet/FoxFi for past 4 years with phones in past. Now have ZTE ZMAX pro and need to tether for internet on notebook for my job. I'm at a loss and on the verge of losing job if don't catch up on work. I live out in the country in Texas, it costs about $300 to get internet out here. I can't afford that, struggling as is. Thank you in advance with any help you can send me.

Right keep in touchJust keep in mind that it uses way more battery using the wifi hotspot, so you will have to plug it in anyways.

<br> Really hoping root comes around. I can tell this phone is super popular right now. The Stylo 2 plus dropped in price $20. it hasn't even been out that long itself.
