Help External Keyboard will only type English

Hello Lurker, did you find any ultimate solution to the problem? As in how to solve this problem for universal devices?
Lol the members name is @Preacher Al. The "lurker" is a title given to AF members who does not have a lot of posts here in the forums.

This thread was his only activity here, unfortunately. So I doubt he will comment on your post.

Can you post what is exactly going on for you? Is it about an external keyboard and using a different language? If so what phone do you have? What external keyboard do you have?

Bell Mobile Phone

thank god commercials are not this long any more.

Although this may be true, it holds only for the individual commercial.

As far as broadcast tv goes ('regular old television'), the commercials themselves may be shorter, but there are more of them.
That makes the actual commercial breaks longer than they were years ago.

I actually saw this and then went back and timed it.

My research was done with an old VHS tape of a famous daytime tv show, The Oprah Winfrey Show from the 1980's.

The commercials seemed long, but the breaks seemed short.
So I timed the breaks, and they came in at 2½ minutes each.
Then I timed a daytime show (don't remember which one) that was in the same time slot, and the breaks were 4-5 minutes long.

Basically nowadays, you get about 40 minutes of watchable show per hour.

Contrast that with something like Tubi, where the coming breaks are not apparent in the show (none of that old "And when we come back from the next commercial break we blah, and blah blah blah, so stay tuned!" that takes up valuable show time, not to mention that the first minutes back from break are usually spent rehashing what went on before the break), and there are 3-4 or less 15 second commercials.
That really is so much nicer.

Help Swapping my sim is it ok?

I bought a ton of used older phones and rely on SIM swapping. Nothing bad happens. Worse thing is you get the wrong type of phone and end up with no service or no data/only bars.

I'm using a prepaid SIM in an old Verizon Galaxy S4 Mini. The notification shade shows 'no service' and under settings-->About phone-->Status it shows network type "Unknown" but works otherwise. I can use MMS/SMS, phone and data if I had data. I only have MMS (don't need data)

The only time I saw a SIM PIN ws back in the old Cingular days. Like 2001, if you put a post-paid SIM into a Tracfone you'd get a prompt asking for a PUK code, which the carrier called 'hacking' and often threatened to cancel your service or got hostile just for asking for that PUK code, but that was a long time ago.

Stop scheduled update

You can't. Modern Samsung and their forced updates (and other bad decisions) are why I use a S4 Mini in 2023. All I need a phone to do is SMS/MMS and play music and control my TV. Don't need modern crap for that. Don't even need a data plan.

When a modern Samsung phone knows an update is available it will endlessly nag you until you give in. You can prevent it if it hasn't happened yet by using No Root Firewall and killing the data/wifi access to 'Software Update' but once you get the nag you'll keep getting it. If you made the mistake of hitting 'install later' it only gives you 3 postpones and then it will install whether you want it to or not.

"security patches" aren't just that. A lot of times an app gets updated or unwanted UI redesigns have been part of a so-called 'security update'. I no longer trust nor believe in updates. The day they took all the life out of Samsung Health in an 'update' I had zero control over forever scarred me.

What is the best case for Z Fold 4 preferably with an S pen holder?

I ordered the TORRAS case and look forward to comparing it with the Thin Fit P. Hopefully it'll last longer

:p

UPDATE:

It could not have been more perfect timing! I dropped my phone and the front piece of the Spigen (was was left of it) went flying... as did my S Pen. Within hours, the TORRAS arrived. It's an impressive fit, although different around the power button. So far, so good - although it will require a drop to really test it.

Spigen is shipping out a second warranty replacement of the Thin Fit P, which I'll leave in the box unless needed. I can always sell it.

Help Music stops playing when switching apps or going to home screen

I was also experiencing the same problem: anytime I used a different app, Pandora would quit playing and have to restart at a different song. It would seem you have to remove the app from Battery Optimization. This is the fix that worked for me:

https://help.pandora.com/s/article/Trouble-Streaming-Pandora-on-Android-1519949305958?language=en_US

Please ensure that you have your device set to allow Pandora to run in the background.

  • From the home screen or app drawer press and hold the Pandora icon.
  • Tap the "i" icon to access the App info.
  • Next select Advanced, then Battery.
  • Confirm that Background restriction is set to "App can use battery in background".
If Background restriction states "Restricted", tap on Background restriction to remove restriction.

Black screen after failed firmware

This is why firmware updates on any device some with warnings not to disconnect or shut down part way though, and why they won't run if the phone battery level is too low. A firmware update requires overwriting the existing firmware, and hence if you interrupt it at the wrong point there is a risk of something vital being rendered unusable.

Try charging it for a few hours, just in case the disappearance of this "one slider" is due to the battery running down while you've been trying to recover it. But if you can't get it into the bootloader/download mode your only option will be professional repair: a workshop with the correct equipment can probably get it going again (as long as there's no physical damage, which isn't what this sounds like).
