Whenever your Samsung phone gets an OTA update, it will nag you endlessly each time you unlock the device, and if it's set to auto download on Wifi (the default) it only gives you three postpones before installing it anyway whether you want it to or not. changing the setting to not auto download will just have it pop-up reminding you of an update being available (and in settings, it shows it at the top of the screen as well) over and over again.

I say the Note no longer differentiates. It looks almost identical to the S series now, with the S-pen being the only differing factor. Back in 2011, we had many phones of various designs and I truly miss it. A lot became e-waste because of unnecessary carrier shutdowns (which again, nobody asked them to do, no market demand or view given, nor were we asked first. We don't even need 5G.)

I honestly want a phone that stands out. The Nokia N95. Totally unique and since all I do with a phone today is text and play music it'd be up to the task. Unfortunately, the aforementioned carrier shutdowns have reduced them all to e-waste, or paperweights.

I had a similar problem years ago. I went onto Google and found that contacts that seemed the same had subtle differences. I had to take the time to make each contact identically the same as all instances of the contact to remedy the problem. I hope that is the case with your contacts and that's a fix for you.

Thank you, olbriar. I have previously gone onto my Google contacts online and when using the merge and fix option it doesn't find any.
When I do a search for a friend called Donna I get at least 15 Donna's with the same name. My guess is that the only reason why they are showing up multiple times is because its going through "phone contacts".

If I don't do a search there are not duplicates. Once I start a search I see boxes below the search window that include "phone contacts" "Google Contacts" "Company"

I used getDevice() method from AudioManager when my controller was connected to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and it has 3 devices: first is Type 2(AudioDeviceInfo.TYPE_BUILTIN_SPEAKER), second is Type 11(AudioDeviceInfo.TYPE_USB_DEVICE) and the third Type 18(AudioDeviceInfo.TYPE_TELEPHONY). After connection, the selected device is Type 11 and the music is heard in the master port(automatically default selected by Android).

When I plugg in headphones in the headphones port, nothing changed in the AudioManager and I have the same 3 output devices.

I mention that I have tested the controller with a DJ software on PC and the headphones port worked fine.


I will try to use OpenSL ES API to get a solution., maybe it will work.

Hi, Iam facing an issue with Android Studio, Iam using Android studio with Electric eel version, in this iam unable to preview the layouts, infact its getting as Render Problem in the logs, can somebosy please help me on this.

For anyone that runs across this thread, the solution is this:

1. Install SMS Backup & Restore app
2. Backup all your SMS messages (and call logs if you want)
3. Use a program where you can select all messages in one tap like Chomp SMS and delete them all. Note that you will lost any messages you received after the backup completed and before you delete all your messages. (None in my case.)
4. Use the SMS Restore function, Advanced options, and select the date you don't want any messages restored that are earlier than that date.

The only probably I ran into is my Might Text app went crazy delivery notifications to my Windows PC for every incoming message restored so I uninstalled the Mighty Text app on the phone temporarily so it would stop treating them as new messages.

Not familiar with that app, but I'm guessing that is more of an app support question, unless someone here is familiar with this app?

A new TV box may well be the way to go. For one thing: It's unlikely that your Android 4 box is still getting security updates. But jf you do keep using your current one, you should probably use the Puffin Cloud Browser on it. It's the only browser I know of that still gets security updates on Android 4. You don't want a browser without security updates, on top of an operating system without security updates!

Does her phone have an actual SIM or is it esim? If a card then take it out, restart the phone and put it back in. If an esim then go into settings and reset carrier settings (not the esim but carrier). It'll just re-hook up to the towers, you may have to re-add the WiFi password etc. (this can be done even if you leave the SIM card in).

The last time I used a belt clip it was when I had a Samsung Galaxy SIII. But at work each time I squatted or bent over a certain way that belt clip would no doubt POP! and hit the floor. Luckily it protected the phone and it was in a case anyway, but it happened often enough to get annoying real fast and left front pocket became the default option, with keys clipped via carabiner to my belt loops.

I also had issues with my Nokia 5185i popping off its belt clip and hitting the floor, often enough that it took duct tape to keep the battery on, which was part of the back of the phone and eventually the clips holding it on snapped off from so much of it being dropped that way.

I also see one-handed use as necessary. I am always using one of my hands whenever a text comes in, or doing something else and I like using it one-handed. Today's phones are too long and often too wide, and with my bad arthritis lately, both trying to reach the top to clear a notification to swiping around to navigate because some genius thought buttons = evil became such a chore that downgrading to what I use today was the only option left. When it no longer works, I'm off smartphones for keeps. Nobody makes a phone that checks all my boxes anymore, plus I don't rely on apps nearly as much as I once did.

31 December 1969 was the UNIX Epoch, aka launch. That's why it is the default date and time on a UNIX/Linux-based OS. Similar is the IBM date of 1 January 1980 on the IBM PC 5150, being its launch.

ColorNote might be an option. What phone do you have? Many Samsung phones of any vintage can open a *.txt in their default viewer, like S Memo or Polaris Office. *.txt is a pretty universal standard, not a proprietary Windows one such as *.doc or *.docx.

I loved those too. I'm an even bigger fan of '60s TV. I got the entire series of M*A*S*H on DVD, and loved Happy Days, but Mork and Mindy was such a huge downgrade compared to the Mork character starring in episodes of Happy Days--it wasn't the same fun. It was kinda, well, bland.

I love Laverne and Shirley (especially the Lenny and Squiggy segments), along with the Odd Couple, Green Acres (reminds me of the people around here!), as well as The Andy Griffith Show, Bewitched, the Munsters, Lassie (if you can even get that one--unobtainium both on physical as well as digital, this being the '50s series, not the movies) and many more. Since in the early 80's Nickelodeon had very little of their own content they often ran reruns of 50s and 60s shows when they had open time slots (later putting it into their Nick@Nite evening block), I was exposed far more to that era in TV than the 'modern' 80s era at the time, and the only exposure to 80's television were the Saturday morning cartoons like He-Man, Voltron, The Wuzzles and others.

I have always been fond of old things too, and being around my great grandparents a lot as a child made me more enamoured by the 1950s-60s style of culture, tech and life in general. That's why I'm like I am, and resistant to any form of 'future' I don't feel I belong in. I was probably the last generation that was taught how to take things apart, repair them and read schematics as I was growing up. Back then, at least until the mid-80s that was considered a vital childhood skill, and a benefit later in life.

Personally, I'd rather spend my off time re-aligning the IF transformers and tuners in my AM radios and enjoy the warmer sound of them over dealing with buffering, compression and other disadvantages of just pulling songs up on your phone. Radio is free, subscriptions to multiple services are not. Around here, there's plenty of great classic music stations on AM. Radio doesn't need internet, nor app updates, or accounts much less data gathering.

i think the mic in the buds are getting priority from the hooked up mic, but that is only a guess. can you hook up some headphones that does not have a mic?

What's probably happening is this:

Facebook is logged in on this phone, but not the laptop/computer the person is using (maybe they bought a new laptop?) person goes to 'forget password' on the PC. 2FA sends a text code to the phone, but the phone in question is locked behind a PIN that nobody remembers, or a SIM lock from inserting the wrong SIM into it.

This sort of is why I can't login to Facebook anymore (not that I consider it a huge loss) but because the phone number in question that was setup on my FB account no longer exists, and it tries to send a 2FA code to that number. I never set up 2FA on my FB account anyway, and it got forced on me. I just wanted to login to see a group that's otherwise hidden and view posts there, but oh well. No biggie.

If the phone is SIM locked, good luck getting any carrier to give that code to you. I was always treated with hostility by carriers for merely asking them for the PUK code or Subsidy unlock code, like I were trying to hack their system or something. The phone might also be locked because it's no longer supported by the network, aka no VoLTE capability and the SIM got hotlined.
