As far as I can tell, T-Mobile is simply the worst carrier that exists.

I have hardly ever been able to use any data, and it is almost as difficult to make a phone call.
Sometimes texting will work if I am close enough to a tower to touch it.

I have to use wi-fi everywhere I can, because the cellular 'service' is laughable.

Maybe your parents live underneath a tower, so it works for them.

It sounds like you may need to update Android System Webview.

It is the app that allows other apps to show web content.
Some apps have their own webview, so they will not be affected, but most rely on this Android System Webview.

On the other hand, Google will update this sp quite often, and there is just as much of a chance that you got a bunk update that wont function right.

If updating this one app does not work, then try uninstalling all updates for the app.

This brings it back to its original state as when the device was new, and you will not lose any info or data.

Another issue could be (but try the above first) that some devices use Chrome as a webview instead.
So if this is the case, then try the above remedies for Chrome.

Feel free to ask if you need instructions on how to do (or find) any of this.

check the recents, the square navigation button.

find greenify, and look in the corners for a padlock.

tap the padlock to lock it.

now the app will not stop.

Even if you could find the apk, the app came out in 2016. A 2016 app that had not been updated to the latest Android os, probably would not work, or you could get lots of crashes and glitches.

Another way to kill just one app is a little more involved but allows you to do more. Go into your Settings >> Apps menu, scroll through the resulting list to find that app in question, and tap to open its 'App info'. Tapping on 'Force stop' will kill the app. Since this app is apparently having some problems, you might also want to use 'Clear cache' to wipe the app's cache. And since you're already in the App info box, you might want check options in the Battery usage, Storage usage, and/or Permissions to see if anything might be better changed to prevent whatever problem you might be having with the app. These are all options on how the app ties in with the operating system, don't forget to look in the Settings/Options/Preferences menu in the app itself. Those will be options that are more about how the app ties in with you and how you use the app.

As for google maps, yesterday I almost collided with a car, being distracted by maps telling me FIVE times to turn right at a simple t-junction. I think the instructions were something along the lines of:

In 300 yards turn right onto the A71.
In 200 yards turn right onto the A71.
In 100 yards turn right onto the A71.
Turn right onto the A71 then continue 30 miles.
Continue 30 miles.

A keyboard app can do a lot more that just report how often you open the app: it can pass your card details, passwords or anything else you type back to the developer. So it's fair to be more cautious about a keyboard.

Plus what you may not know is that since the earlier posts were made the "Go" apps were pulled from the Play Store over security concerns, so don't be too quick to assume that words of caution are based on prejudice! The few that can be found now have a new name for the developer: whether this is the same dev under a different name or someone else hijacking the defunct branding I don't know. Of course some of the recent "improvements" in the Play Store make it much harder to find out anything about the app developers.

(Unfortunately almost every change Google have made in the last decade has made it harder for people to make responsible choices about apps before installing - they pay lip service to security, but they clearly don't want people to think about it for themselves.)

Thanks. Apparently the PDF format was not allowed for text messages. Converted to PNG, and voila, it worked. I didn't have an email address, which would allow PDFs to be attached.

You don't say whether your phone is a North American model (qualcomm processor) or a Vast Majority of the World model (exynos processor). This makes a huge difference to how you root it or even whether you can, and what ROMs or mods are available for it once you have.

These different models may have the same marketing name, s8+, but are different phones internally, and mods intended for one will not work on the other, so it's very important to use the right software for your phone.

And yes, you can save the original ROM if you can unlock the phone and install a custom recovery without modifying it. But that's not enough to return it fully to stock software, for that your best bet is just to reflash it with a full set of official software. Even then it will be clear that the phone had been modified, since rooting will trip the Knox "E-fuse", and software that checks the Knox status will detect your phone as having been altered.

Also if you use any apps that don't like running on rooted phones (payment apps, banking apps, some media apps) make sure that whatever root method you use does allow you to hide the fact that it is rooted from the specific apps you care about.

In short, do your research before you try to change anything.

Samsung have begun rolling out an update to stable users on Android 12. The AVJE release has the November security patch.

It is a FOTA, (Firmware Over The Air), update and you can check... Settings > Software update... to see if it is available for you. Alternatively, you can connect to the Samsung PC suite, Smart Switch and check via that.

As far as we know, the November roll-out date for Android 13 is still on.

Up and running on mine. Differences are subtle, but that's normal with Android updates these days.
