How Do I Get Rid Of Duplicate Numbers From The ContactsContract

Here is a quick solution i came up with to remove duplicates

ContentResolver contentResolver = getContentResolver();
Cursor cursor = contentResolver.query(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.CONTENT_URI,
null,
null,
null,
ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.DISPLAY_NAME + " ASC ");

contactArray = new ArrayList<>();
String tempId = "";

if(cursor != null && cursor.getCount() > 0){
while(cursor.moveToNext())
{
String contact_id = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.CONTACT_ID));

if(!tempId.equals(contact_id)){
String contact_name = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.DISPLAY_NAME));
String contact_number = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.Phone.NUMBER));
String result = contact_id+"\n"+contact_name+"\n"+contact_number;
contactArray.add(result);
}

tempId = contact_id;

}
ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<>(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, contactArray);
listView.setAdapter(adapter);
cursor.close();

ZTE Axon 40 Ultra

Seems like a competent well specced device. Never had a ZTE phone myself, but have seen plenty of them and have also seen the ZTE factory in Shenzhen where they're made.

I became a fan because my first smartphone was a ZTE 812 Maven running Android 5.1.

It died after about 10 months, but was under warranty and replaced.
That one is still alive even after I replaced the 'non-replaceable' battery.

My Ol'lady had a ZTE that was running KitKat while the rest of us were using Android 7.

Her ZTE 557VL running Android 7 is just now having battery failure.
If her screen wasn't busted, I would just get a replacement battery for it.

Help Galaxy Tab S7 question (home screen)

The Nova launcher didn't work.
.... Have you tried pressing and holding on an empty bit of home page, or maybe pinching in, and seeing whether any settings options appear?

My experience of Samsung's launchers on my ancient Note 10.1 and my s21 mean I would not put it past them doing something restrictive and inefficient for their own reasons.
Yes, I tried. That doesn't work.

It makes no sense why they would take away valuable "screen real estate". I suppose they hired some idiots away from Apple.

CalyxOs data transfer to new phone after old phone screen damage?

CalyxOS being its own Android offshoot, you might get more pertinent suggestions posting your query in one of the CalyxOS help forums (apparently there are active chat, IRC, Twitter feeds).
https://calyxos.org/community/

Offhand, you should already have a 'Seedvault' utility that does secure backups:
https://calyxos.org/docs/guide/faq/
How can I back up and restore the software and data on my phone?
We developed a privacy focused backup and restore application called SeedVault which is built into CalyxOS. SeedVault
uses encryption to protect your data before it ever leaves the phone. Currently there are two options for backing up:
USB storage and cloud storage using NextCloud. SeedVault can be accessed from Settings -> System -> Backup. The first
time you run it, SeedVault will generate an encryption passphrase made up of 12 words. You must keep these words in a
safe place in order to be able to restore your backups.

getting a metro phone

ok i think i understand that but i have no clue on how to find one. i do see this term on eaby no and then in the description boxes ebay puts up. not the sellers. anyway all i'm interested in is getting a 64 or 128gb storage as teh a21 will not let me adopt the sd card. there is lots of talk about how a21 owners are mad because they got the phone and they are now selling them for that reason. so to save the headache i will just get larger storage.

what i asked was this in the original post that got waylaid

i have a free line thru the wife's account and also the a21 tracfone that i unlocked now so i could put a sim in it from metro but i hate that phone. so i'm looking at some phone on the metro site but they say free with a new line. i see some nord n10 and n20 phones but when i click on the item it tells me to visit a store for the nord n10 and click to buy for the n20 but then i click to buy and it said go to the store.

but can anyone tell me if the wife can go to the metro website and order that phone and have my free sim setup to it or maybe get a free line installed and then turn off the free line i have now? or if we go to the store can i get a larger storage phone and get that free line sim from the a21 phone installed and stay free? of will i just have to take a trip and see for myself?

thanks

Help What is using so much of my internal storage?

Any system app will be using internal storage only it's on the /system/apps partition (or system/priv-app on modern Android). If you update those apps regularly that storage will be more and more used up which counts against your 'total' storage.

Any data stored via a system app also eats into the internal storage total. Texts, MMSs, photos taken with the camera, downloads on YouTube, etc.

When I was using my S20 FE, it didn't take long to eat over 3/4 of 256GBs doing nothing that I ain't doing today with my SII. Apps today are sadly bloated messes. Especially ones that sport colorful letters starting with 'G'

Downloaded but not yet installed system OTA updates also count against it. If one is still downloaded or in the queue where you're not yet notified this will usually show a high number of GBs in 'other' category under storage. Apple is even worse with this. Apps there can use internal storage as 'swap space' as of iOS 14+.

How Turn Off Play Store Auto Updates

A lot of times the Play Store updates what it considers 'critical' system apps even with the setting turned off (never auto-update apps). Also some apps get 'server side' updates where the UI can be redesigned to fit with say, the Android 12 "Material You" look, even without actually updating the app--Google apps are commonly updated server-side. I never updated Maps on one of my tablets that runs 4.3 Jelly Bean but it has the design of Android 9.x even though the app never got updated and has the older, Holo UI icon.

Annoys me to no end. I hate redesigns especially when they're downgrades visually, and when they move things around where I have to rediscover them it breaks my flow. That's why nothing I use today has the Play Store, or Play Services and no Google Account. I don't trust them to not change something even on 2.3 Gingerbread so I err on the side of caution and ditch any chance even to the point of disabling the download manager (most apps such as Amazon Music, Dolphin Browser, Samsung Internet, Kindle, etc don't need the system download manager since they have their own managers) so noting can download without permission including system updates. I no longer believe in updates after being burned too often by them.

For example, even without a Google account, my Galaxy S4 updated everything due to Play Services doing its malware-magic (look at its permissions and tell me it ain't malware) and the only way to permanently undo it was to uninstall all updates and disable both Play Services and the download manager.

Many people on forums think I'm stupid and tell me how I'm gonna get hacked running such 'outdated software' but for some reason, the 'outdated software' feels far more futuristic and works for me best. Why they care what I do with MY PHONE is a mystery. They feel outright threatened by the fact someone out there uses their Galaxy SII as a daily driver in 2022.

Private Mode!

WOW, what a weird problem!

Just a few days ago, my phone started hijacking every Bluetooth call and sending it to the earpiece. That completely stopped all hands-free calls, in and out. The vehicle's infotainment screen showed the "Privacy" icon lit up, meaning that the call was being routed to the earpiece in Private Mode.

TL/DR: unpair your vehicle in the phone's settings; delete the phone in the vehicle's settings; restart your phone and vehicle; and pair it all back up again

A quick call to the dealership revealed that, in virtually every instance, Private Mode is a function of the phone, not the vehicle. Since I couldn't find a Private Mode setting on the unlocked Z Fold 3, I spent upwards of 45 minutes on the phone with a (clueless) Samsung tech support gal. She wanted me to install an app so she could get into my phone and see what I was seeing, and I refused... it shouldn't be necessary. Just tell me how to turn this off! Since there is no Private Mode setting on the Z Fold 3, she exhausted her troubleshooting screens, and apologized.

I decided to continue troubleshooting on my own and got in the Darling Bride's car. Had trouble connecting: in disgust I just unpaired the phone and forgot the vehicle, rebooted and started over. Paired & connected, placed a call to her phone and it worked fine on Bluetooth.

I then got in my car and made a test call - Private Mode kicked in within seconds! I unpaired my phone, forgot the vehicle, rebooted and started over with my SUV. Paired & connected, placed a call to her phone... and it worked fine on Bluetooth!

Bizarre problem but if you run into it, try this method as a solution.

a21 pc connecting question

i have teh a21 and everytime i connect it to the pc so that i can get photos from the phone to the pc without the phone making me allow it? there must be a setting on the phone that i'm missing that will allow usb connections without making me allow them all the time. i have tried file and phots and even midi and i still have to allow the connection.

or is this a windows issue that i have to go intot he pc and change a setting? thanks

Help How to get rid of political ads via text?

Well, if you're dumb like I was (when responding to the text) you probably dialed the number up top. For me it got me to a Indian 'tech support' scammer call center. Should have pulled a Kitboga on them.

They got a way of talking that makes it obvious. For example they pronounce 'virus' as 'wirus' and 'Windows' as Vindows' Also they love using odd phrasing such as 'each and everything' and 'why are you using your mind?'

I've never had any call center with any Hispanic speakers. All of them Indians.

Help Print receipt as image on thermal printer

huh? can you be more specific? are you developing an app? what phone do you have? what is the exact problem? its hard to help if you don't have a specific question in mind.

just remember, the more details you give us the better we can help.

Sorry for the late reply.
Answer to your question:

I'm given the task of developing a feature for an Android app which is to print text in receipt format (sales invoice, quotation etc.) in native languages.

Since most general printers doesn't support character sets for native languages like South Asian languages such as Indian languages, which is my requirement. The hack is to convert the native language text to an image and send it to the printer SDK.

I've tried creating a bitmap by drawing the text on a canvas object and passing the bitmap to the printer SDK but the tedious task is to create the entire receipt format by drawing on the canvas providing the x and y coordinates.

The next solution I tried is to inflate an XML layout according to the receipt format and set the data to the corresponding views, convert the root view to a bitmap and pass it to the printer SDK. This solution is working, but my problem is I'm trying to integrate this solution without creating an extra layout or activity in the app.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The app uses the following SDK for printing text in English from the app (working feature)

Help LG125DL and the Apple 4 watch

The only way I know of is to use an LTE Apple Watch (you need an iPhone to do initial setup) and once setup is done, just use it standalone. Enjoy the horrible battery life and limited features though because even in standalone it has less than half functionality as one that's connected to an iPhone.

From experience, apps like Apple Pay, some parts of Health (notifications), Maps, system updates, digital touch won't work in standalone, or break after some time. (Apple Pay will work for x times then want to sync with an iPhone/Wallet app).

SMS, iMessage, Music, Phone, Fall Detection (SOS), Siri, HomeKit support, watch (obviously) setting Alarms, calculator, and others do work in standalone though. But battery life will be 1/3 what it normally is since the LTE radio uses a ton of it when always active.

An Apple watch is basically a flip phone in watch form in LTE only mode. As you already got a flip phone do you really need two?

Who else rocks an old Android device and loves it?

I'm posting this response on a 2012 Toshiba laptop running a 2013 distro of Linux. I've also recently come across a Wii-U (was very interested in that--beautiful skeuo UI, and everyone else is on a Switch, while I'm protesting via the Wii-U) as well as an old Apple TV 2 (2010) and some old RCA Streaming box that I'm unsure the year but given how Netflix's UI is on it (works fine) I'm guessing anywhere from 2010-2013? It's got the old red UI before the black one with the annoying auto play videos. Kinda reminds me of the version that was on the original Wii console. I can't find much info on it-It runs some type of limited OS; no app store, and a handful of apps from Netflix, AccuWeather, Flickr, Picasa (never tried those), YouTube (doesn't work), Hulu Plus (no longer have account), and Vudu.

I literally found that one in the garbage. Kinda shameful that people toss out something that still works fine!
