WifiTools - legit or not?

Sorted. It kept failing to start programs (inside Boinc distributed computing), looking like a shortage of RAM. While connected via USB to a real computer as it's the only way I can get files onto it to install stuff and I was going to try a new firewall, I noticed some very peculiarly named folders like .hgksuhgurv all over it, all beginning with a fullstop. These are not visible in the phone's file manager. So I deleted them all. Stuff in the android folder with the same silly names too. When rebooting it, something popped up like it was trying to do something but everything was placeholders. Looks like I thwarted it. Ahh, now google play works, which promptly deleted wifitools as it's unsafe. And no more 20 browser windows opening displaying Tarot games and so forth.

Help Android 12

Ok, so it's Dutch. I mostly only read English and Chinese, and I'm learning German. :)

But what exactly is this about in your screenshots? Which is something I've never seen before on any device. Is it from some app that your provider uses?

Although it looks like that could be a Kraftwerk or Gary Numan album cover from the '80s. :D

All data accidentally deleted on MOTO E

Thanks to both @Dannydet and @mikedt for their kind responses.

Before my OP, I had found the following site:

https://www.bankbazaar.com/smart-gadget/how-to-recover-deleted-files-on-android-phone.html

Based on the encouraging info from BankBazaar, I then asked the "open" question on this highly-respected forum:

- "Is there any way to retrieve that data?"

The responses made me suspect that BankBazaar might be pushing scams.

I found this link:

https://geekflare.com/android-data-recovery/

I then searched for reviews of the original link above for "bankbazaar". I found this:

https://www.mouthshut.com/websites/...Bazaar website is a,as it is quite insightful.

The reviews were poor. Admittedly they related to credit cards. But clearly any recommendation by BankBazaar should be avoided.

Thanks.

What Is Going On At AT&T?

This is one of multiple reasons that I am glad I carry.

Although I was worried, it wasn't about myself.

The manager was pretty rude about the whole thing, lol.

I bet he gets in trouble over it, I guess he was the person that closed the night before.

But yeah, no way was I going to leave the place unattended like that.

When the store was downtown, it was robbed at least once a year of devices and/or cash, and it was moved to the furthest outskirts of town.

If something happened to make it close altogether I would be screwed.
I don't even know where I would go to another AT&T store, I think the next one is about 30 miles away.

Why does my eBay app notification only sound when I open it?
It's pointless as it used to sound perfectly on all my other phones. Do you use the eBay app and du you get notifications even when the so is closed?
what phone do you have? try clearing cache and data for the app. or maybe try uninstalling and re-installing the app.

Is Caller ID Name Not Accessible as a field variable in Call Spam Blocking Apps?

Wondering if any developers here can confirm the following:

On virtually all Phone / Call apps, you'll see the Caller ID Name for incoming calls (where the name isn't blocked, or the number isn't in your Contact list). I get semi-frequent scam/sales calls and they are all from numbers that no person or company name comes up, only the phone number. Since the Caller ID name is displayed when there is one, I would assume the Android Call apps have access to this data value.

Yet, all call blocking features I've seen in all apps I've tried, only have the ability to manually block the number, or, enable a setting to block all calls from numbers not in your Contact list. I'm just flabbergasted that none of these apps also have the option to "Block all calls with no Caller ID Name that are not in your contact list." If the Caller ID Name value comes across as the phone number itself, the app can easily see that it matches or that there are no letters in the Caller ID Name and block it. The only reason I can think of that this type of blocking feature isn't available in a single call app is that for some reason the Caller ID Name is displayed by the system, not the app, and the app doesn't have the ability to read the Caller ID Name Value? I would be really surprised if that were the case as it doesn't make sense that the app displays it but can't perform any feature based on the Caller ID Name value???

Twinkies Nutrition?

Never read it - not sure I've ever seen a packet in real life.

This reminds me of the "McLibel" trial in the UK, when McDonalds sued a pair of activists who were criticising the company. Lawyers for McDonalds defended the corporation's claim that their food constituted a nutritious meal by arguing that it was true because the food contained nutrients - an argument that summed-up the whole case, since whether the court accepted it as technically correct or not it was utterly self-defeating and a PR disaster. This led to the McDonalds representative being asked whether they could name any food that did not contain nutrients (for the record they wondered whether black tea would count, but weren't sure).

Funny the things you remember even after 25 years.

Help About to lose Tracfone service

You can also contact Tracfone an see if you are eligible for a free phone.

If you are an existing customer, and have been for a period of time, they will gladly provide a free phone to keep you as a customer.

In fact, everytime the technology has changed, I have received a free phone to replace whater I had at the time.

I just got a friend a free Moto e, and it is actually a rather nice phone- especially considering that it is free.

Go onto their website and see what devices are available.
