texting problems

When you're running your phone in its Safe Mode, only the base Android operating system gets loaded into memory during the start up process. No third-party apps or services that typically get preloaded too are excluded. While in Safe Mode you'll notice most things you do are a bit sluggish when first used, as everything that typically gets preloaded into RAM is now starting up as a new process/service. If there is some third-party app you previously installed is interfering with your text messaging app in some way, it is less likely to be able to while in Safe Mode. The issue being, now there's a much more clear indicator that is the problem to address but no, Safe Mode isn't a magic way to specifically tell you what app is the source of the problem. You still need to deduce just what app you added before that's the problem.
Given the sporadic and random pattern of your description of the problem, I tend to doubt this is caused by another app but it's worth trying to eliminate the possibility it is. Using Safe Mode costs nothing and it's just a temporary thing to use as a diagnostic task.
You've referred to multiple phone restarting that occasionally and temporarily solves your problem but at some point realize that isn't a really practical fix. Restarting your phone is a good way to clear up something that's more of a one-off glitch, but it won't fix something like a corrupted settings file. That's still something you need to take care of in some kind of direct manner. The notifications issue 'could' be some setup matter in the Notifications menu in either the Settings menu or the text messaging app itself (more likely the phone's Settings menu than the app's Settings menu given you're tried different text messaging apps); the old and new messages not showing properly as bold and normal is likely to be a text messaging app matter but does that particular problem happen in all the text messaging apps you've tried? If yes that would indicate something with your text messaging service -- assuming you're using your cellular service phone number. If no, have you tried clearing the cache and/or data for whatever text messaging app you're using as your default? Note that clearing the app's data will wipe all its settings/options files, essentially returning it back to its original, first time used state so you'll have to set up the app from scratch again, and be sure backup up your text messages as you might have to restore them. This isn't as drastic as a Factory Reset as it's more targeted to just your text messaging service (with a Factory Reset you have to restore your phone's entire user account data, a more comprehensive matter.)

Do you like where you live?

we had a little Thunder . Lightning and rain last night during the Football game o_O
I saw an alert on my phone about some parts of SoCal getting CRAZY rain and thunder. I'm HOPING it comes to the lovely San Gabriel Valley!! We're breaking the law right now by running the sprinklers longer than allowed, so a nice drenching would be most welcome.

PS If anyone wants to know why *I*, a person who values honesty and ethics above all else, would be okay 'breaking the law' in this manner, I'll be happy to explain....

Pls help

You might be able to at least manually copy your data over onto your new Samsung phone though. When you view that HiSuite backup on your Mac using the Mac Finder (the default file manager), do your files and documents appear to be in their native file formats stored in different folders? (i.e. photos as jpg, audio files as mp3, etc.) Of so, you might want to copy them to their appropriate folders on your Samsung phone, or use the import function on things like a browser app to add bookmarks. It's not going to be a seamless project since you're doing this all manually. But if that HiSuite backup appears to be more of a modular, single file where you can't view its internal content, that will be a problem.
SMS are likely to be the biggest problem. If you can extract your contacts from the HiSuite backup file as vcard(s) (.vcf) then you can import those into any contact manager, including copying to your phone and them importing them using your Contacts app. Other "docs" are probably just files you can copy onto the phone, as suggested here. SMS, however, don't have a "standard" backup format like vcard is for contacts: different backup tools use their own formats. So I guess the first step is to see whether you can read your SMS in HiSuite, and whether they can be exported from HiSuite and if so in what format. If you can do that then whether it's possible to get them onto the new phone is the next question.

Metatrans Apps introduces App: Chess from Kindergarten to Grandmaster

Hi Friends,

I would like to share our Chess app, especilly designed to help kids learn chess game.

In general, this is an interactive free offline chess game with different levels and playing styles.
The game is for 2 players and the opponent could be your friend or the open source chess engine Bagatur.
The maximum ELO of Bagatur 2.2 chess engine is around 3000.

So, you could play chess with friends on the same device or with the computer program Bagatur.

Passwords

Not necessarily your phone compromised, but there could have been some hacking attempts on your online accounts, and for security they now require you to re-login, like Ebay? Also some services do require you to re-login periodically. If you have any doubts change your passwords, don't use the same password for multiple accounts, and enable two-factor authentication if you haven't already.

WiFi performance

Welcome to the site @CanterburyFred :)

I removed your serial number from your post. :thumbsupdroid:

One possibility - according to Office Depot that tablet only has b/g/n WiFi which is 2.4Ghz. Your router and other devices might also support 5Ghz WiFi which could give them a better signal.
Well perhaps the WiFi antenna in this particular tablet just isn't as robust as it should be. Or there could just be some other issue that's the problem. Have you tried using your tablet elsewhere (i.e. a friend's home or at work) and does this same limited range issue occur there too, or is it just at home? That might help determine if the problem is with your WiFi at home or some problem or limitation with the tablet itself.

But really, you should at least start by rebooting your router and your tablet to see if the problem is still there or it was just a temporary glitch. Yes you mentioned other gadgetry in your household aren't a problem but networking is just not that simplistic -- the problem to focus on is the tablet's WiFi connectivity, not the other devices.
If this solves the problem, then hopefully is just a one-time matter. But if not or the problem comes back later, than it becomes a more involved project.

Install this 'WiFi Analyzer (open-source)' app on your tablet:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer&hl=en_US&gl=US
You can use it to measure WiFi signal strength and make yourself of basic 'heat map' of WiFi coverage in your household. Stand a few feet from your router to get a base measurement, then just walk around your home taking different measurements in other rooms further away to see just how strong or weak your router's coverage extends out to. Instead of assumptions and guesswork, use actual data to get a better sense of where there is good coverage. Be sure to check both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band -- in outer fringe areas you may find using a 2.4GHz band network is a better option (..... 5GHz can transmit faster bandwidth but 2.4GHz signals can extend further and penetrate through walls better, the issue being a strong 2.4GHz network is better to use than a weak 5GHz network.)
You might also want to check if just repositioning and/or relocating your router will improve WiFi coverage. If your router is currently buried under a desk and surrounded by metal file cabinets that will significantly reduce the strength of the WiFi signals it emits. Move it higher up and out in the open. But whatever the case, this is a good article on router placement that's worth the time to read through:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/202...ntific-guide-to-wi-fi-access-point-placement/

Bottom line though is to determine if the problem is that particular tablet or your home's WiFi.

Good advice, thanks, I will try the analyzer, and will take the tablet to another site to try it out there. As in other situations I have encountered, just having reliable connectivity can often be more important than blazing speed.

S21 Notifications when not using phone

More issues; Data is always turned off, away from the house speaking for text no longer works unless I turn on data!! Never had to do that with the S7, nor can I find the setting that would make it work, I will keep looking.
Some US networks are in the process of shutting down 3G, and 4G is a data-only protocol. You can make calls over it if the phone supports Voice Over LTE, but I don't know whether that requires data to be enabled or whether they have a special channel for it (it is still a VoIP connection, so data will be involved).

I don't know whether this is relevant, but it's what occurs to me.

I agree also with Abe911 and Hadron, really miss the notification light of the Samsung S7 that and its size, the Samsung S21 Ultra is big and weighty which for me almost outweighs its better camera.
I simply refuse to buy a bigger phone than I like just because that's what the manufacturers find most profitable. It does limit my choice of phones, but better that than spend a lot of money on a device that doesn't suit me.

amazon-shopping-logo-icon-arrow-260nw-1091787281.jpg

there is no "point" to the smile.

not really sure.....why not just either look into your phone's notification to find out what it is....or....you could ask the person who the phone belongs to to find out.

we get this question almost everyday. and you have to remember that there are millions upon millions of apps now days and most will have some sort of notification icon. so unless it is a very popular app like facebook or youtube, most of these questions go unanswered.

so good luck, you might get lucky and someone here might recognize it, but i would not hold your breathe that will happen.

Reviews The "I Got Mine" Unboxing and First Impressions Thread

Actually, removing the center screen protector looks as easy as it was with my GF2 as per
. Samsung does not recommend but I did it anyway, never installed another and have not had a nick/scratch/mark since. I just couldn't stand the "rubber" like feel of it and the 2 was not s-pen capable and I probably wouldn't do this on the 3 because of that. It did look a lot better also without it
yeah i followed the advice from the Samsung Experience guys, and they said not to remove the pre-installed screen protector or replace the original screen protector on the big screen......so i did not.

today i was able to find a zagg booth in a mall on my way home today. so now, i have a screen protector on the front and i feel good about it.

Help Video camera app with manual settings and access to all cameras??

The multiple camera modules in a S21 have more proprietary features so it's more a matter where they also require a unique and also proprietary Camera app to take advantage of those advanced options. So the Samsung Camera app (software) on your S21 is more tightly integrated to those camera units (hardware) than a more typical set up in most other phones where the camera module is commonly available (used by multiple manufacturers) and a more or less generic camera app.
So yeah, you can install and use third-party camera apps but they can only access the basic feature sets in those higher-end camera modules. All that said, if you go into the Settings menu of your phone's Camera app, there should be options to allow you use manual adjustments. Look in the 'Pro' options
Certainly for certain functions, such as telephoto and macro, it is Samsung's own software that makes that happen. But there are still things that Firstlight can do that go way beyond what the Samsung camera app can do. But between the two, I think most things are covered as far as still photography goes.

It's a bit different for video. The Samsung app doesn't allow much control. Filmic Pro really has the edge for everything except macro shots and convenience (for when you don't have time to mess around with manual settings). I was messing about with it last night taking shots of what was on my desk and I was able to make the dust on my laptop glow as if the machine hadn't been cleaned in years.
