I've never seen anything in developer options to stop mic and camera access for all apps. You can turn that off for individual apps in Settings > Apps though. I don't know what Android version you have (I think you said it was a Samsung in another thread), but on my Galaxy s21 (Android 13) the trick is to go into Settings > Apps, click on "Permission Manager" and you can then see a list of permissions and how many apps are allowed to use them (and how many are capable of doing so if you let them). Click on "Camera" or "Microphone" and you have a list of the apps that have access, and by clicking on those apps you can change their permissions so that only those you trust can use it.

But since an app should have to ask for permission before it can access either of these, in principle only those that you've said yes to should have that permission. Even so it might be worth a check - if you disable it for an app and change your mind later you can always re-enable it.

It's harmless to have developer options enabled (as long as you don't mess with things where you don't know what they do ). I was just concerned that it might have been enabled without you doing so, which would imply that someone had been messing with the phone.

Update: Turning off "Overview Suggestions" on the home screen fixed the issue.

It was probably there all along, though system updates can change these things.

It's not unknown for service providers to include their own apps as well when the phone is bought through them, so the O2 app is probably one that they pre-installed on the phone. Is the icon very distinctive, or completely generic? It might be coincidence that they have the same icon, or even that neither has an icon and you are just seeing Android's default icon (though that normally has an "android" theme rather than looking in any way like a SIM).

I've never used Snapchat myself, so can only guess, but if you have used it on a previous phone using the same Google account you signed into this phone with, and you allowed Google to back up app information for you on that phone, then when you installed Snapchat using that account it may have got the information from that backup. Or if you have signed into a Snapchat account after installing it may have got the information from the account (I assume Snapchat has accounts, whether linked to the phone number like WhatsApp does or to an account name).

But what exactly does it say? The subject of this thread is "people you may know", so another possibility is that when you confirm your phone number it suggests people who have previously been Snapchat "friends" with that number. Or perhaps people who have your number: many social media apps try to get you to give them access to your phonebook "so you can find friends more easily" (or similar excuse), so if these people have your number and Snapchat does that (and they gave it access) then it could associate you that way. There are many ways these apps can get data, and not all of them are under your control (this is why I always get annoyed by people who say "I don't care if Google/Facebook/whoever upload my data", because their phones will contain other people's information as well and it's not their place to decide whether these corporations can have it).

correct factory reset does not roll back software. it only does data. so the update will stick. and i think the same goes for flashing an older firmware.....but i could be wrong for that.

so i have been playing Starfield for over a month now and i must say it is truly a great game. you have to be a fan of Bethesda and their games like Skyrim and Fallout. it is a combination of those games plus No Man's Sky.

and yes i have been playing it for almost a month and i have yet to complete it. there are so many things to do in the game. you can build your own ships and outposts.
i am currently playing this on my Steam Deck. it is playable. you have to turn the graphics down low or it will crash on you. but it does play really well. i only had it crash on me a few times.

Hi all for a while now ive had a faint screen on my phone no mstter what screen i go on theres a faint white screen with red icons at the bottom that look the usual.icons for contacts, messages etc what is this?

Until the mid Oct. update my S20FE ran like a top. Now it is slow to load and sometimes glitchy.
I have used Podbean for listening to podcasts for years. Now when I bring up that app or any other podcast app, they take forever to bring up my options and when I select a particular podcast, it still takes time to load that particular episode. If I decide to switch to a different podcast in my favorites list it starts all over. Pre-update everything flowed smoothly with no waiting for anything to load. Suggestions?

I don't think "it looks sketchy" really answers the question "what do you think looks sketchy about this?" . And is there anything at all that you can't find people being skeptical about on the internet? Because unless it's people who are verifiably technically knowledgeable who have doubts I would not attach much importance to that.

Seriously, there are lots of system processes which you can't open as an app because their function doesn't require a user interface and indeed it wouldn't make any sense to provide one. And it's the same on all phones and all computers running all operating systems. If you can't see that on a particular device or platform it's because the manufacturer has chosen not to show you that these things exist, not because they aren't there.

So the lack of description? Well that screenshot came from Settings/Apps, which doesn't describe any apps, so there's nothing suspicious about that. You find app descriptions in the app stores, but system components aren't updated that way. So the lack of description isn't a sign that something is dodgy, it's just that the places you'd find user apps described don't manage system components. If you want to know more then you can try searching Google's android developer information, or maybe visit a developer forum like XDA and see if there's anyone there who happens to know. But I have sympathy with manufacturers not adding user documentation for every system component when most users will never know they exist and would probably not understand the documentation if it was provided (not because they aren't smart enough to understand, but because most people have never had to learn how a computer works, and so wouldn't have enough context to understand what a lot of system processes do even if you described it to them).

Of course you could tell Google (or Samsung, Microsoft, Apple, etc) that they need to include full documentation on all of these system processes because you have every right to know. They'll ignore you, but if enough people tell them that they'll... well frankly they'll still ignore them . But if they were to actually do anything they'd most likely just remove the "show system apps" option so that users wouldn't know these things existed and hence wouldn't ask. To be honest I'm mildly surprised that Google didn't just do that in the first place, since that's the easy option.
