Does "Blue light filter help you rest?

Like @Hadron , I experimented with a few apps before 'dimmers' and 'nightlights' became standard fair, built in features on our devices.

As he says, they are annoying.

Well, they were annoying.

The built in ones are great, although sometimes it comes on while I am using the device (it is set to automatically do so) and that is sometimes disconcerting if I am in a well lit area, or at least until my eyes get used to it.

There are a couple of apps that I have tried that seem to me to be much better than the rest.
Not really sure how much blue light is being filtered, they seem to work best as dimmers in general.

One is older, and one is newer.
The newer one, Night Screen, is my favorite, if you have to use a third party app for this purpose.

As far as helping me get to sleep, I really can't tell.

I have heavily modified my sleeping accomodations to my liking.
As such, once you lay down, it immediately bevomes difficult to stay alert and awake.

So with or without any light filter, without a high dose of caffiene, a purpose, and some effort on my part, staying awake while in my 'bed' is really not an option.

Any time I am sitting upright and using a device, my back quickly begins to hurt (if it didn't already) and I soon migrate to the 'bed'.

What I can say is that I like the dimming effect, when used sparingly.
Basically I forget that I am using it hntil it goes off automatically, or I turn it off, and then I notice the difference.

I do think that it makes a small device easier to read things on, especially for long reads, simply by making it more comfortable to stare at.

Reload?

Then you may be in luck. Samsung devices are fairly common and the Tab A certainly should have stock firmware available from www.sammobile.com. Of course there are 16 versions of the Tab A so you'll need to match it to the exact model number. You might also try using Samsung's Smart Switch and perform an emergency recovery, which essentially overwrites the existing OS with stock. For that you'll need your serial number so it can be identified correctly, but it might be easier than flashing the tablet manually.

Weird ZTE Blade A462 MicroSD Issue

Old thread, but I found it anyway.

My experience shows that it is a bad idea to format and use a SD card as internal memory.
A very bad idea.

I am glad that did not solve the problem.

More of my experience has shown me that out of three devices, I have one that does similar with mediabthat I transfer to the SD card from the internal memory.

The solution was simple.

All I had to do was to move the files, and then restart the device afterward.

The media would show up in the file manager and the gallery apps, but would not show any memory taken (shown as 0MB) or play in any apps.

After a restart, the memory used shows up correctly and the media will play in whatever app I am using.

ZTE Blade Force wifi calls

Personally, I like ZTE.
Yes, you get the standard bloatware.

But the cost is good, the quality is good, and the UI is simple and effiicient.

I find that when I must deal with someone else's device (Samsung, I am frowning at you) I wish that I was dealing with a ZTE.

As far as Wi-Fi calling goes, it is up to your carrier as to how/if it works.

To get around rhis, just use a Wi-Fi calling app.

There are many of them available.

Personally, I use Dingtone.
I get a free phone number that anyone can call or text to, and it acts as a separate line for my device.
You can link up to 5 devices onto one number, and even devices like computers and tablets.

There is even one Wi-Fi calling app that I have found that does not assign you a specific number, but gives you a different one for each call.
That is an outgoing calls only app.

The only options that I have tried are the free ones, and out of those I have to say that Dingtone has treated me very well during the 3+ years that I have been using it.

There are not too many hoops to jump through, and the calls are generally clear and the app works even on the crappiest of smartphone devices.

When getting devices from the supermarket, keep in mind what carrier you have, or want to use.

Getting a device that works on a big company's (AT&T, Verizon) system is important if you want reliable service, so stay away from small, local, or regional carriers that use devices that may not be compatible in all areas.

Most of these type carriers are renting time on a large carrier's towers anyway, and by using a renter's time on such towers your service may not be up to par with the customers of the tower owner.

ZTE Blade Force v. Blu G5

Ok, I"m also considering the Moto e6 or 6e but I have virtually no info on it. I would rather have 32 than 16 gb, and though I agree about not trusting sd cards, I don't have the option of buying a terabyte + phone. I also want at leaat a fairly decent camera, and good resolution.

It really doesn't matter what device you get, you don't want to use an SD card as internal memory, even if only a portion is used for such.

The card will wear out extremely fast, and whatever is on it will be lost.

Using an SD card as external, however, is fine.
There are still a limited number of write cycles that a card can withstand, but a modern card of quality will have a tolerance of tens of thousands of cycles.

The only things you need internal memory for are the system, apps, data, and temporary files.

Any personal media should be placed onto the SD card.

So you do not need 'a terabyte phone', you only need one capable of handling the apps that you want.

This can mean deciding what apps you need, rather than want- but it can also improve the quality of your time spent with the device, as it will have what you need, rather than being packed full of junk you don't really use.

A great trick to save space is to use a great browser to access web sites, rather rhan having individual apps for sites that you frequent.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Gab, and most others all have sites that can be reached without the need for a spacehogging (and privacy thieving) app.
In fact Android Forums is just like that, and I have only ever used the site via my browser.

A great browser cannot be over emphasized, and no, I am not talking about Chrome (spit in disgust)!

There are some excellent open source browsers that are actually more fun than the apps that I replaced with them.

Try Lightning Browser.
Itbis the basis for my favorite browsers around, and you can easily see the difference between it and other browsers.

Lightning (Lightweight web browser) - https://f-droid.org/packages/acr.browser.lightning

Like I said, there are others that have used Lightning as a base for their own apps.

Smart Cookie Web is another one, that adds a few nice touches.

Right now, I am using IDM+, which combines Lightning with an unbeatable downloader.

So right there, I eliminated all my apps with websites, and all my downloaders (I had 5 at one point).
That freed up a huge amount of space on my devices.

Help Why does the battery saver not re-enable WiFi after a full charge?

Yes, as can be seen by the image, the stock battery saver does turn off all connectivity, including WLAN (WiFi), bluetooth, GPS, etc etc, but doesn't turn them back on, if they were enabled before the saver kicks in, they should be turned back on when the save is automatically disabled after or during charging. That's why a lot of the time, I see that red phone handset in the corner saying 'Unable to connect' and this is the 'WiFi calling feature that is enabled while using WiFi), and the reason it couldn't connect was because WiFi was turned off, and the only way that was turned off was when the saver came on, and I put the phone on charge.

My device does not turn the Wi-Fi off when the battery saver engages, at least not if I am using Wi-Fi at the time.

First, I know this due to the rare occasion that I allow my battery to drop down that far.

Second, I am almost always on Wi-Fi, as I have very limited data, and I know when the battery saver starts because it darkens the screen and activates a short screen time out- like 15 seconds or so.

I really can't remember a time that I allowed the battery to drop so low that the saver started and I was not already using Wi-Fi.

All I have to go on as far as personal experience is how my devices behave.

Have you tried any third party battery savers?
Perhaps the solution is to not use the stock battery saver at all, and use a third party app instead.
Like I said, I do know of an app that has a battery saver that restarts everyrhing that it turns off when it is turned off.

Of course, the battery saver itself is not automatic, and must be controlled by the user.

So basically you would he in the same position if you used that one.

Might you be able to do without the battery saver altogether?

Generally I find that it doesn't really do much for my devices anyway.
I leave mine on only as a low battery reminder for when I am not paying attention.

A simple $5 fix is a tiny external battery booster that connects to your device and provides a quick, decent charge.

ONN is the brand I refer to specifically, and they are available at Wal-Mart.

I use them for my devices as well as my bluetooth speakers.

Can't access "/android/data" directory in android 11

After updating my Google Pixel 3a to android 11, I can't find files and folders of this location: "/android/data" by the device. "Files" by google shows empty at that location. But I can see them through PC via USB transfer. Why can't I access that location of storage and how can I get access on the device?

Help IPsec user certificate imported incorrectly

Hey all,

So I just set up a VPN server on my OPNsense firewall. I want to connect to it using my Android 9 phone with Lineage 16 using IPSec Xauth RSA.
Importing the CA certificate works great, but when I import the VPN client certificate it doesn't work the way it should. I don't get an error or anything, but the certificate is not in the list of possible "IPsec user certificate" in the VPN settings. It is, however, in the list of "IPsec server certificate" in the VPN settings. I double checked the OPNsense settings, and I can see that the certificate is clearly marked as a client certificate, not a server certificate. This suggests to me that android somehow does not realize that this certificate is a client/user certificate instead of a server certificate.

What can I do?

Help App is not getting listed in the google play store when going from Samsung S10 Android Phone

We are having this odd issue with our app "CyranoApp". This app has been in the google play store for almost 4 years now. But suddenly this app is having issues getting found and not getting downloaded on to Samsung S10 phones. We tried with multiple S10's and also did a factory reset of S10. Still the same issue. I also tried to update the removing the uses feature,Compatible-Screen tags in the manifest files and try to deploy to Google Play Store and I did an internal test by play store also having this error This App is no longer compatible with your device.. Still facing the same issue.

How can I copy / export a complete chat (with all media / files) to the Notebook?

Yes, may be "archiving" is the same (done manually) what WhatsApp does with old messages / media, they just disappear from the chat until a new message / media is created, then they are shown again (re-done.by pressing manually that archive option).

Just copying / synchronizing the WhatsApp folders seems to work quite well.
