Welcome to Android Forums, Tipi!
Go into your System Settings, then find the entry for installing unknown apps. On my Moto Z² Force running 8.0.0, its path is:
System Settings | Apps & notifications | Advanced | Special app access | Install unknown apps
From there you'll see a list of apps. Find your ad blocker and give it permission to install unknown apps.
Now--assuming your ad blocker was actually the source of the problem--you should be able to proceed.
I hope you're aware that installing apps of this nature can be dangerous. Be sure you trust its source before installing it!
Installing unknown apps is a system-controlled function. Please how can one bypass adbloker, trying to install an unknown app.

It definitely cheesed me off, I was being really careful, I'd used the P2 the same way with no issues, but apparently it's just not wise for me to take chances like that. I bought a waterproof case for it (that thing is fugly but it'll work for those times I need to be extra careful) - but I'm definitely watching for P4 deals again (they just had it for 100 off at the Google store but I'll wait for a bigger sale or price drop.
it's a great phone & I'm happy with it, so thanks for putting the idea in my head to look closer at it.
