Cabin Fever

I know for most people the first day of spring is only a few days away, but as truck driver I still have about six more weeks of winter weather to possible contend with. Wyoming, Colorado, some extreme northern parts of the states can still get snow and bad weather. Usually by May 1st we are in the clear.

The Water Heater Thread

Why do you want to get away from a natural gas water heater? Gas should be the most efficient choice.
Efficiency is only part of the equation. We live under PG&E rule and their rates (both electric and gas) are outrageous. With solar, electric is now basically free, so the loss in efficiency is way down the priority list. Electric water heaters have improved as well, so their recovery rates are better.

On-body detection issue

I normally have my phone on a belt clip. It's been a long time since I carried my phone in my pocket. I do remember it made a difference if I had the screen pointing towards my body I would get open pages when I pulled it out. If I turned the phone 180 degrees so the screen was point away from my body it would be fine.

Don't know if you have tried that yet or if that will make any difference for you.

Samsung s23 contacts problem

I'm just trying to make sense of where this is behavior being generated. I purposely don't sync my contacts.

I don't see how Assistant could be related. All it does it display a choice of contacts for me to select. That's where it's job ends. I select the contact, and the Samsung app dials it.

I deleted all the related contacts, and remade them with only the prefixed number.

Windows 11

So I clicked on the news icon. lower lefthand corner on the Windows 11 Taskbar. I clicked on a news link and the browser freezes up with this message. On my phone I Googles the phone number 888-262-7152 and came up with nothing, so I figured it must not be Microsoft Support. It took me a while get the browser to close. Rebooted and ran a McAfee scan and came up with nothing. Any suggestions?

Nox Security

Isn't Samsung's Knox the one that's supposed to mess with people's ability to root? I think it voids the warranty if they do.
You can root a phone with Knox (US Samsungs with their encrypted bootloaders and no unlock option are harder, but that's not Knox). And yes, it will leave a permanent indication that the phone software has been fiddled with, which the carrier or manufacturer may use to withhold warranty support. But to be fair it's not the only way that they can tell, just that it's impossible to reset while other tells can be with more or less effort (though whether you are able to undo any indicator that you've modified the phone will depend on why you need to use the warranty...).

File Cleaner

Like @ocnbrze I am generally opposed to cleaner apps: they're usually more malware than anything useful, and there's very little for them to actually do.

Besides the risk of the app collecting your data and sending it home to someone, having additional storage available isn't making your phone run any better or faster. Imagine having a huge walk-in closet but you only need one small section for your entire wardrobe. What good would it do for you to install shelves to hold even more... or even knock out a wall to make it bigger? It's unused capacity - the key word being "unused".

The system cache is actually making your phone work better and faster by storing much of your phone's most commonly-used data for quick access. Generally, the only time I would recommend someone go into Android Recovery to wipe cache is after a major OS upgrade (from Android 12 to 13, for example) or if the phone is behaving erratically. Otherwise, an occasional restart of the phone is enough to get it working well again.

Help Looking for data recovery experts (android 12 phone) professionals for a paid consultancy opportunity

I once faced a data loss issue myself and, after a lot of searching and skepticism, decided to consult Salvagedata. They didn't make any grand promises right off the bat, but they did have the expertise to handle a wide range of devices. It was their professionalism and clear communication that stood out to me.

If you are looking for an expert opinion, you can contact them and you will get the clarity you need. They will be able to assess your situation and give you a definite answer about the feasibility of data recovery in your particular case.

Backup Xiaomi and recovery files

Hey there!

Absolutely, trying to create an image of your phone is a smart move before diving into any recovery efforts. This way, you keep the original data as untouched as possible, increasing your chances of getting those deleted bits back.

Regarding your question about doing this without root access, yes, it's possible, though it might be a bit more limited compared to having full root privileges. For Android phones, tools like ADB (Android Debug Bridge) can help you create a backup of your phone’s data without needing to root it. ADB allows you to interface with your device more directly from a computer, and with the right commands, you can pull a lot of data off the phone. However, it might not be as comprehensive as a full image you’d get with root access.

For creating an image, you can use ADB to execute a command like adb backup -apk -shared -all -f /path/to/backup.ab on your computer with your phone connected. This will create a backup file (.ab) you can then use with data recovery programs. Keep in mind, the success of recovering deleted calls and messages depends heavily on how the phone has been used since the data was deleted. If new data has been written over the areas where the old data was stored, recovery might be challenging.

As for recovery programs, there are several out there, but it’s crucial to choose one that’s reputable and preferably recommended by tech experts. Some programs are designed to work with the backup files created by tools like ADB.

Lastly, if the information is super crucial, you might also consider consulting with a professional data recovery service. They often have more powerful tools and techniques at their disposal for retrieving lost data. I've had a personal experience with SALVAGEDATA that was pretty positive. I reached out to them a while back when I accidentally wiped an entire drive on my laptop – we're talking about years of work and personal memories that I thought were gone for good. They were able to recover nearly everything, which was a huge relief. They specialize in all kinds of data recovery services, so they might be able to help with your phone data, too.
