But here in the real world, it's still a matter where a dated phone like your S5 has just aged to the point where its usability has diminished. Google stopped supporting it a long time ago, most app developers too so even the apps on it are in question, and basically there are hardware limitations that will make even third-party ROMs more about just having a phone that boots up than a phone that's actually usable as a daily usage phone again.
Today's Internet has devolved into a toxic mix of really useful online services and countless compromises so using any outdated mobile device involves an increased amount of risk. Keep that in mind as you want to keep using your S5, and be extra careful about anything and everything you do online.
As for getting another Samsung phone as an upgrade, Samsung does make some really good hardware, and some of the alterations it makes to the base Android operating system it installs on its products appeal to a lot of people, but there's also a lot of Samsung branding that adds a lot of bloat too. Buy another Samsung because you want to stay within Samsung's oversight, but I'd suggest you look into something like a Pixel phone for a clean Android device, or a OnePlus or Moto phone that will be have a minimum amount of added cruft and bloat. There are plenty of good, usable, reliable phones that aren't flagship models.

There's a long story about the shower curtain. Before Mom died, she asked for a new shower curtain and she was very specific--she wanted a beach scene, with birds and the ocean and sand. This was the first result and it was perfect--especially since it also has a lighthouse, which was one of her favorite things. My helper got something reddish/brown on the curtain, and since it's cloth it never came out. I was pissed. Then she recently presented me with a new one! And I found the whole collection online, and added the shower curtain hooks, the soap dish, and the tumbler. As for the 'beach' plaque, the whole time I lived in landlocked Dallas, I dreamed and longed for the beautiful Pacific ocean. I LOVE the beach, the ocean, the sea life, the seaweed and shells.... So, yeah, when I saw that, I had to add it.

My mother grew up on the beach in Plymouth, pratically up until my father got married twenty eight years ago. Before he passed on around twenty years ago, her side of the family all eggshelled around Mass. Until my Aunt's kids decided to stay in P.A., both whom are married off and just continued to walk into that adventure of everything underneath the roof. Right now she is on vacation.

I kind of vouched out of going on vacation up there this time around, been helping out at my sister's place, her basement got flooded last week, so had to stay over there for a spell and just went back with my side occupation on that following weekend. I too have adventure on the beach several times since I was a wee little tyke with my sister.

In addition to Olbriar’s correct comments about it being “super,” it’s called a “strawberry” moon because, as you surmise, it coincides with a time of year, in this case the strawberry harvest.

My original G900V died of screen flickering after that 1/17/18 Blueborne patch Samsung tried repairing it two times to no avail. Upgraded to a Note 9 then a friend was nice enough to ship for me a S5 for free from this veteran who was changing phones. It arrived at my doorstep on 1/4/2021 Then I bought a Tmobile S5 February 2021 because I wanted to experience Kitkat on the S5 as I never experienced it due to owning an S4 in 2014. G900T is going strong but had to use the battery from the Verizon S5 due to the seller including a faulty battery. That free verizon S% has a broken charging port and flap which needs to be replaced so it's lying dormant currently

The only icon that has 'puzzle pieces' inside I'm aware of is the icon for Samsung Configuration Update, which does background tasks and occasionally shows a notification icon that quickly goes away if you don't catch it. It has four 'puzzle pieces' inside it though.

If I take an ECG with a Galaxy Watch 4, the phone will show a heart symbol very close to the OP's indicating an ECG record has been saved to Samsung Health, where you can tap it to view the results.

The Galaxy A02s is a bottom-tier Samsung smartphone. It's the second generation of the A0x branding, with the first numeral being the tier, 0 being bottom end, with higher numbers being higher end, and the second numeral being the generation, 2 being second gen, after the A01, and the A03s being the third. I have no clue what 's' stands for.

That said, I played with one for a while, and the cameras aren't sealed from the elements (the case is plastic and carries zero IP rating). They can tend to get dust inside them, as well as the screen of the phone itself, which causes hazy/foggy photos. Another case of 'you get what you pay for'

Yup...I get the theory but the volume is still too loud and I have tried that app and several others. Oddly, my S9 did not have the same problem so clearly this is an improvement, (sic). Thank you so much for your suggestion.

I think there is a way of flashing a Samsung without erasing data, but I don't know the details. But you will need to be able to get it to boot into the appropriate state (download mode I believe) before you can flash it: if it won't power up at all there is nothing you can do apart from see whether someone can repair it (without erasing it or replacing the motherboard, since either of those will lose your data).

It's very hard to say what the cause here might be. If the reason you replaced this phone was the battery not holding charge then the battery failing is one possibility. Perhaps try leaving it on charge for a while and see whether it comes to life? Phones only run from the battery, and the charger connection only charges the battery, it doesn't power the phone, so if the battery isn't capable of charging you won't be able to boot it.

As an aside, if it's possible that the battery may be that bad keep an eye on it while charging. I replaced a Pixel 2 in December because the battery had become unreliable, but there was something on it I wanted to access today. I put it on charge last night and after a couple of minutes there was a "pop" and the display partially separated from the phone! What had happened was that the battery has swollen and pushed the display out (there had been no hint it was that bad before this happened). It's dangerous to try to charge a battery in that state (fire risk), which is why I say that if it's possible that the battery has failed completely then it's worth a go charging it for a few hours but don't leave it unattended, just in case.

Of course there can be other reasons why the phone won't power up. One other thing to check is whether it actually will boot up but the screen is dead: can you get it to make a sound, or can you see it connect to your WiFi network? That may be a long shot, but if that were the case there may be other things you can try.

I have an Khadas Vim3 single board computer with Android 9 installed on it. I wanted to add to it modem for mobile connection. I got myself Simcom SIM7600 connected through M.2 and extension board (that contains SIM card slot). I have follow the instruction, added following lines to init.rc

This is an age-old Android question without a good solution.

It would be awesome if Google provided a repository of notification icons. Maybe that's a privacy issue. Regardless, unless you're in possession of the phone, it's usually a shot in the dark. And if you don't have the phone, things often become shady and unfun.

We've tried a "master thread" but it's an unwieldy challenge, and inevitably, people are focused on asking their one specific question.

I think most people probably search Google (describing the icon) before using AF as their last resort. Following that line of thinking, the best we can do is offer people helpful, detailed solutions. Having mods rename the thread title to include a description of the icon provided by the user might help, hoping we pop up in the search results when they're initially looking.

Not sure what other thoughts to offer here... it's a conundrum for sure!

In that case I think the feature is likely working as intended. Without being able to update the current conditions or even location while in Airplane Mode, it would be way too easy for At A Glance to display outdated information - or information for a different location altogether. I suspect the developers decided that displaying no information was better than displaying information which was likely incorrect.

I am working on developing an application that requires reading a file from the SD card. I am trying to read from either the downloads or the documents directory. I am getting an error back when attempting to read the file saying "Cannot open file. Permission denied." I have checked the permissions in the settings and it says the application has permissions to media on the SD card. I have a permissions check in the code as well. Anyone else have this issue? I have ran the same code on a different tablet (may be a different version of android I cant remember) without this issue.




I have also tried some code I found on stack overflow. And chosen the directory my file is located. This also did not work.

Where is the firmware at anyway?

I did that before but it didn't worked.

Last night before I saw your post, I was backing up my for a factory reset. Then I saw your post, tried it again still didn't work. I left it (nano sim on and esim off) for probably an hour as I was browsing through my phone to check if I have missed stuff to back up. Then, suddenly I got an SMS from the nano-sim . It was working altrady, then I tried to turn esim on, both are now working! What a relief!

I reboot my tablet after three day, just idle from time to time, yeah it is pretty impressive what our own tablets and cells can do, within that ideaa of having either like on Hadron's case or mine.

One thing about this phone... it ain't easy finding a car mount for it! Especially one that clips to the AC vent so I'm not trusting some adhesive dashboard pad. Well, this thing offers BOTH mounting options: and it has pretty much everything you could want!

The setting is called "accidental touch protection". As of writing, it's in settings > display > accidental touch protection. I know that this is 3 years late, but hopefully it can help people in the future. I'm also disappointed that no one was able to give the name of the setting, especially samsung's own support line. I can understand people on the internet not knowing since this was probably a new setting at the time, but samsung themselves? That's sad.

Smartphone batteries typically are not interchangeable between models, they're pretty much specific to each model. Basically, you're lucky that battery you hacked up didn't result in something like a minor explosion. Keep in mind that a lithium-ion battery contains a lot of chemicals and stores a relatively large amount of power so intentionally cutting into one involves some risk. There are established limitations and restrictions on shipping phone batteries because they're a potential danger, a lot of retailers just rely upon on ground shipping because of the stricter regulations shipping by air.
