Is there an app that alerts for car chases?

I've searched in vain for an app that sends alerts when there's a car chase being televised in the LA area. I've not only scoured Google Play but I've also checked local TV stations' web sites to see if they have such a creature, but I've come up blank. Before I moved back home to CA I *KNOW* I heard about something that did this--but that was circa 2006, so before Android, before smartphones were everywhere, etc., so it must have been a text message type thing sent to cell phones.

Does anyone know of such an app? (And, yes, I get quite a kick out of watching car chases, marveling at the morons who think THEY'RE going to be the one who actually loses the cops. :D)

A few years ago, I'm not super positive if or when it stopped, but on Tim Conways show on KFI640 am station advertised texting "Chase" to the station and my friends and I always received a text whenever a chase started.

When you first enable Wi-Fi Calling, you must provide your service provider with the primary street address at which the Wi-Fi Calling service will be used because, if you call 911 over Wi-Fi, your service provider may transmit Your E911 Registered Address to the 911 Communications Center to use to help emergency responders locate you. If you are somewhere else when you call 911, you will need to provide the 911 operator with your current location. [Check you RW account. I believe they asked for a Registered Address for 911, too.]

Once enabled, you may use wifi calling anywhere you have access to do so.

Help Colors Flicker In Certain Apps.

I have the Motorola Moto G Power 2021. Yesterday I noticed the colors in certain apps were flickering between color and black and white. Like in Google Voice, my contact pictures would flicker between color and black and white. The same with contact pictures in the message app that came with the phone. Most of the apps that had this problem were fixed when I uninstalled then reinstalled them. I can't uninstall the message app that came with the phone. On Gmail, all uninstalling does is set it back to factory settings. To reinstall it, you go to where the apps with updates are listed in the Google Play Store and update it. I've tried clearing cache and data, turning the phone off and back on, turning off dark theme, resetting app preferences, uninstalling apps I've installed in the last month. I've tried everything short of a factory reset or throwing the phone across the room. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is or anything else I could try, if I haven't already tried it?
Here's a list of the apps that uninstalling and reinstalling fixed the problem. I use Cricket Wireless but this phone didn't come with the Cricket Visual Voicemail app.

I've only had it 10 months, plus or minus a week. I don't have insurance. My cousin is going to take me to the local Cricket Wireless store Tuesday. If it's a hardware issue, I'm going to do what I call a "same grade". Same grade is an upgrade where I just get another of the same phone. In this case the Moto G Power 2021. Unless I find another Motorola phone I like better.

My previous phone before this Moto G Power 2021 was the Moto E5 Cruise. I had 4 of it. Moto E5 Cruise #1 developed an audio issue. The only way to get the audio to work right was to squeeze the phone on the front and back side where they earpiece was located. I sent it back and got a refurbished/like new one. It was Moto E5 Cruise #2. It had issues of its own. One was in the now history Google Play Music. I bought a Moto E5 Cruise #3. Long story made short: I lost it. Then I bought Moto E5 Cruise #4. It developed issues. One of which was random restarts. So, August of last year I upgraded to the Moto G Power 2021.
I'm not going to risk another refurbished/like new phone with problems of its own. I'd rather be without a phone while Motorola tries to fix this one or just buy a new one.

Great news! This thread can now be closed and locked. About 3 hours ago I figured out how to put my phone in safe mode. In safe mode the apps with the flickering colors issue worked properly. No color flickering. When I took it out of safe mode, I uninstalled an app I've had to contact the developers a few times about problems. When I did, no more flickering. I've added that Bird Sorting game by Games Arena to my permanently banned apps list. The only other app on that list is Urban Dictionary. Urban Dictionary caused the random restarts on my previous phone in August of last year. Uninstalling Urban Dictionary fixed my previous phone. I'd had my previous phone 3 years, so I decided to upgrade to this phone in August of last year.

Seeing that no email has ever been received from that Google account (and that it's extremely unlikely that any message will ever come), my wife has agreed to let it be. However, with her permission, I have deleted a "personal" gmail account that she had for very occasional use, so there never will be any of those security messages that bothered her. (I needed to send one message every nine months, just to keep the account alive, and there was always a security alert from Google, afterwards. I could not explain matters to her, and, besides being tech-illiterate, she is easily frightened.)
She can now look on the Google account email as a kind of "password" only, in case her phone ever needs re-installing. She is now OK with that. Besides, seeing that she does not want to do personal emails any more, she is happy for me to delete her user account on the computer (which I am very willing to do).
So, in response to your request, I don't think there ever will be anything to report.

yeah that's the issue i have had with most magnetic car mounts. though the magnet is strong. keeping it in the correct position is the problem. you hit a bump and the phone becomes crooked. however, the other iottie mounts are great. they have lasted being in the car with triple digits temps and not melt or fall off. i used it religiously when i had the note 8 and note 10+

Hotspot app using regular data?

This is something that get's me, and it often comes up on AF. Why is that US carriers seem to charge extra for tethering or hotspot usage? Data should be data, whether just the phone is using it or a tethered laptop or something,

I have a data allowance of 60GB a month with Nihao Mobile, and they don't care how I use that data, whether it be tethered or not. I've never got anywhere near using 60GB in one month.

So what was the fix? Did you flash a stock RUU to recover the device, or did you manage to get a ROM installed? And if you did manage to install the ROM, how did you do it (use TWRP to format the internal storage?)?

As an aside, if you have a USB OTG adapter you can connect a USB flash drive and flash a ROM from that, or write a TWRP backup to it. That's how I did these things when I had an M7, rather than bother trying to copy the ROM to the internal storage after doing the factory reset which you need to do as part of the ROM install.

What is the best way to build an Android Dev Envoronment on Ubuntu 22.04?

I would strongly recommend you do not manually install Android Studio from their web site and instead use the Ubuntu package from an Ubuntu repository. Once you start manually installing programs you also have to do things like manually creating all the necessary links (i.e. /usr/bin) plus the integral package management in your Ubuntu install won't register or maintain it -- you will be responsible to always update/patch/upgrade Android Studio instead of having it automatically for you.

ip cam program help

i have a bunch of ip cams most are foscam cameras but a few that are other brands. anyway i need to find a good free to try program that will let me find the cameras and get into then so i can change the ip address the user names the passwords and the ports. i do not need any apps for the phone as i use the tinycam app and that seems to be able to find all the cameras i have ever tried to use.

i had program one time but during a pc reset i lost that one but never needed it so i never tried to find it again, but now i would like to get that back and i can't find it or even remember the name of that program.

the foscam program will not work and i have the amcrest program that will not work and the security eye program and that will not work. so if some one knows of a program that is free to try so i know if it works i can buy it please pas that one on.

A web page will consist of links, that point to various items (i.e. text files, images, etc.), but if some or any of those links are not pointing to the correct locations of the actual text files or images that needs to be corrected. So are you absolutely sure that you have all the necessary files in the right directories and that those directories are accordingly named and located? Your implication that Android doesn't support html is confusing, please clarify.

I've made a simple Webview app. I'd like to add a slide-out drawer of some sort that acts as navigation to different web pages. I've been looking at various approaches including android Studio Navigation activity but I cannot understand how to edit this to show web pages.

What would be a good approach for me to take in this?

S9 - GPS problem - tracking not working

If a component has broken there are basically 2 possibilities: the GPS antenna (or the connection to it) or the entire motherboard. The actual GPS (& Galileo, GLONASS, etc) hardware is in the SoC (system on a chip), not a separate component, so the antenna is the only thing you could fix without replacing the whole motherboard.

To be honest, damage to the SoC, or to the motherboard in a way that only affects GPS, feels unlikely to me. I'd have thought either a disconnected antenna or a firmware fault would be more likely. When you reinstalled the latest update was that a full firmware flash or just a small patch? I'd suggest trying a full firmware flash to be sure. You should also certainly try a factory reset before you consider replacing the motherboard (all your data are gone if you replace the motherboard so there is no downside to trying a reset first).

And apologies for suggesting this, but just to rule out the stupid possibilities: you aren't using it in some "EM radiation protection" phone case? People do actually sell such things, and any case that actually blocked radio waves (i.e. wasn't simply an ordinary case being sold to the gullible) would interfere with GPS reception.

It's not just a hardware issue either, when your phone doesn't support multiple SIMs, more than one SIM card isn't going to work anyway. If the installed firmware doesn't already include dual-SIM support, it's not an option.

yes i know that the sd cards are not the same as sim card are. so i took the tray and put it in the phone about where the firs sim sould set in the phone if it had 2 sims and it did not register so either there is not actual connections or the program just will not read that sim in that spot


so i think my best action will be to either to just get a tracfone card for the next few cycles and see if this free metro number goes ofline again and then just put the tracfone sim back into this phone. or to see if i can get a good dual sim phone the is 128gb for storage and then have both sims regitered to that phone. i can do the tracfone online but may have to call metro to get the metro sim connected to the new phone.
