I recieved my S21 Ultra a few days back (after having first tried a Note 20 which had a fawlty camera module so I returned it & exchanged for the ultra)

When using Dex the option to use my phone screen as a touchpad does not exist, I've looked all over the notifications, settings etc and it's just not there, any ideas?

Also on my Note 20 when I was playing with Dex there was a feature to be able to move the mouse onto the phone screen itself, again I cannot find this feature, maybe it doesn't exist on the S21 Ultra.

Bit stumped, appreciate any pointers.

Have you checked to see if there is an existing app/service which would meet your needs? That sounds like something that should already exist.

I think you should probably be far more creeped out by the way outfits like Google and Facebook try to track everything you do, no matter what device you use, no matter whether you log into their services or not, and the effort, financial, technical, legal and political, that they put in to working around or limiting any restrictions on this. The fact that the device's software updater has full privileges isn't a surprise, and is nothing in comparison to the activities of the main surveillance capitalist corporations. And if you believe the BS they spout about data being anonymous then I've a bridge I'd like to sell you (one newspaper recently showed how "anonymised" location data could easily be used to identify individuals involved in the invasion of the Capitol in Washington, for example, and many researchers have shown how easy it is to "de-anonymise" the "anonymised" datasets these companies gather).

If your device was reflashed that was just an automated procedure from your OEM's or your service provider's servers (I say "service provider" because if you have a device that was bought on a contract and the service provider had added their own stuff to the ROM then it will be them rather than the OEM who actually updates your device). There would be nothing personal, nothing to do with your data, it would just be that after your device's block of IDs hit their update server and it connected to the network that process could start.

When you talk about "Eastern" language on the message though, that's surprising: update messages should match the language you have set for the device. The fact that the manufacturer is for example Korean does not mean that any dialogues about updates should be Korean. So if you saw a message that wasn't in your normal language that is unexpected (though it may depend on the device and its history).

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is now 7 years old and no longer supported by Samsung.

The last official update for the S5 series is Android 6.1.

Depending on your phones model of S5 and its CSC code, ( see #1.2 and #1.8 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummie Guide), you can download and install Samsung stock firmware from SamMobile by downloadind it and using Odin PC suite and the instructions shown on the site. If you install stock Samsung firmware it will unroot you and you will need to root your phone again.

Alternatively, you could install a custom ROM such as LineageOS, which is still updated and is currently on Android 10 and running the latest Android Security patches. Just download the ROM for your device version and install it by following the instructions on their site.

Sadly I concur, if they were in the phone's internal storage.

If they were on a removable microSD card that had not been formatted as internal storage then no problem: remove it from the phone, stick it in a card reader, attach to a computer, run your favourite file recovery software. Job done. But if it was on the phone's storage, no. You may find someone pop up to recommend such-and-such "phone recovery" software, but I'm still waiting to see evidence of one of these things working that is clearly not coming from someone connected to the software developer.

Looks like there's quite a few users complaining about it not working with Android 11. Which is very likely something the developer would need to fix with an update.

Yes, you'll have to do a factory reset and format the card as FAT32 on your computer (or use a new card).

I wouldn't have got this far without having the app in the first place.... although I really like super backup, it falls short with restoring from google drive, kinda goes into this rabbit hole with reason or logic, guess if have to download file so be it, been using file manager, v1-200827, its a pain to use for something like this, will be searching for a better file manager type app

Not a problem, was thinking the same thing, if you made it as a text folder yourself and knowing the story behind it, then yeah you could just back it up and stole away inside your hard drive. So it will become safe and sound. But if it is connected through the app then yeah that would be great.....
