Help Just a few moments while we prepare this application for use...

“Just a few moments while we prepare this application for use” kept popping up in a window on my phone. Then, a second window would pop up with “error code 1001” and instructions to call a Verizon customer service number. Using ADB on a PC (shout out to Techyard), and 2 apps on my phone with a USB cord to connect the phone to the PC, I was able to successfully fix this on my unrooted phone (not a Samsung, but could have been). This problem started for me about a week ago, but I have seen posts where the problem remains unresolved going back several years. I have been using this phone for about 2 years with so-so service and some service hiccups that I always thought could be fixed.

By the way, Verizon isn't my service provider. I had noticed through a cleaning app on my phone that certain Verizon apps were always loading themselves into my phone memory, such as Verizon Locator. But my phone doesn't use a Verizon SIM card, nor do I have a Verizon account. Something happened about a week ago that these apps didn't like.

I used this 8-step solution on an HTC One M8 phone and my Windows 10 machine and with a USB cord to connect them, as you will ultimately control this fix from the PC end. I bought the phone supposedly ready for use on my cellular network, but it always had traces of Verizon on it, and I could never uninstall those system apps. This phone has always had strange problems that affected its ability to hold onto a GPS signal, making it annoying to use while driving. It also stuttered when playing a video while traveling, forcing me to only use the included system Video app. This solution seems to have fixed all of these problems.

(1) Use a phone cleaning tool to tell you what is running in phone memory and find the bad system apps. In my case, any app in memory with the words Verizon or VZW in it were bad. I used Clean Master and chose Phone Boost to see apps running. There I saw a few Verizon system apps that I suspected were creating the pop-up problem. BUT, these are SYSTEM apps, and could not be uninstalled like a normal app using an unrooted phone. I had to do surgery. That is where ADB comes in.

(2) Use a good file explorer program on the cell phone to get the package names of the bad system apps. You probably have your favorite. I happened to have ES File Explorer Pro already on this phone and it did the trick. On the phone using the ES File Explorer app, I went to the apps list and on the dropdown that defaulted to User Apps, I selected SYSTEM apps. For each of my suspects, I went into the detailed information and found the package name, which looks like a URL.

Take note of the exact PACKAGE NAME for each bad system app. You will use that next in ADB. Put the package names into a text window if you can so you can cut and paste them one at a time precisely.

(3) On phone, make sure Developer Options are enabled, and turn on USB debugging.

(4) Install and use ADB. Feel free to watch Techyard’s video from this point and follow their directions. Big thank you to them for creating this nifty application. You will run ADB as an administrator through Windows Powershell. You will connect the phone and PC, and then go into a special shell language in ADB to remove the programs from the phone. On my phone, the uninstaller actually doesn't delete the apps, but it made it so they do not load which is fine. You must run the command once for each of the apps you need to remove. I will continue below explaining this for those who think like me - a user.

If you haven’t prayed or backed up your phone lately, now might be the time for that.

(5) Download ADB from the link provided by Techyard onto your PC.

https://www.youtube.com/redirect?v=iLW6NSe8WMs&event=video_description&q=https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip&redir_token=acxuCt_sqeBIJv7owjzR-fLg9mJ8MTU3MTAxMzkzNUAxNTcwOTI3NTM1

On your PC, extract the ADB files, and go to the location of the ADB command.

Copy the file location of those extracted files into memory or write it down, you will need it below.

On PC, Run Windows Powershell as an administrator. ADB runs in Powershell.

(6) Tell the phone and the PC to like each other. Connect USB cord that allows the phone and PC to talk to each other. If it is a good cord for this, the phone should ask you what USB mode it should be in, so tell them to talk to each other. Hopefully you chose wisely.

You need to be in the folder on your computer where the ADB files are extracted. In PC’s Powershell window, Type

cd

and paste the file location from step 5. You should be in the folder with the ADB program. Type:

./ADB devices

PC should say something happy about the phone. Check your phone. Phone should ask if it should give permission which you should. Phone and PC should now like each other and the PC can edit things on the phone.

(7) On PC, you will start ADB shell mode. In Powershell, type:

./ADB shell

You should get a $ prompt. Hurray! Pat yourself on the back and keep that window open. Note that in Techyard's video, they did not use ./ in front of commands. On my system, I used ./ as the PC itself instructed.

(8) You are now going to delete the bad system apps on your phone. Type carefully, you are in the guts of your phone right now.

For each system app you want to remove, take note of its PACKAGE NAME exactly from step 2, and type into the ADB shell (that $ prompt):

PM UNINSTALL -k --user 0 PACKAGE NAME

You will type this command in the ADB shell once for EACH bad app, one at a time. After you run the uninstall for each PACKAGE NAME, it should tell you it was successful, if it doesn’t, it wasn’t – check your spelling and make sure your package name was exactly correct. After you have removed all the offending system apps, reboot your phone and see if the pop ups go away. For my phone, the apps still show as existing on the phone in ES File Explorer, but they don’t load, as confirmed by Clean Master. If you are still having the pop ups, use Clean Master on your phone again and look for further suspicious apps that are loaded in memory when the pop ups occur.

Shout out to Techyard for making this solution possible!

S2 Jelly Bean says page numbers

Worked with a Samsung S Relay 4G. Nothing on this forum worked. Tried driver mode, talkback, all voice to text disabled...still the "page 2, page 3."

As a last ditch effort, I went into the actual processes of the phone. Went to application manager and swiped all the way to the right.
Disabled S Voice, Google voice to text, and Samsung voice to text.
Even though I force stopped and disabled the apps, the processes were still running.
After disabling these processes and rebooting, IT WORKED.

Hope this helps someone else.

Can't receive or make phone calls

Can't make phone calls
That's not a lot to go on: could be anything from your account running out of credit to a glitch in your provider's systems, your SIM having failed, you've fiddled with the "testing" menu and changed your radio interface settings, your phone's transceiver has broken, someone is using a cellphone jammer nearby, there's a civil emergency and civilian phone services have been disconnected(*),...

We'll need more information if anyone is to be able to help you.

(*) That may sound facetious, but it's happened to me twice, on opposite sides of the planet. That's twice more than I've run out of credit, so if I base this only on my personal experience it's one of the things I'd check first ;). Seriously though, we know nothing you don't tell us, and those 4 words allow a very wide range of possibilities.

Root for call recorder ...?

I'm no android expert, so please excuse the wordy and perhaps simplistic question ...

I have an old S5 running on Android Marshmallow (6.0.1) on which I have the call recording app, ACR. It works fantastically well, and I rely on it heavily for various reasons. I also stopped updating the app after notification from the developer that they were having to make changes due to Google's new security policy, and all was well in the world. Recently I managed to crack the screen on the S5 and, although it is still working and held together with a screen protector, I decided to get a new phone and went for the budget Samsung Galaxy A10 for a mere £140. Problem is, it runs on Pie (9) and call recording is almost totally restricted.

However, I watched this video -
- (cued up for the relevant bit) and find that call recording is actually built into android, but deactivated in some regions due to Google's security policy (IDIOTS!). I haven't tried the app on the new device, but am assuming it will not work as the developers say it doesn't. So I am considering rooting the phone in the hope that this will allow me to change the settings and enable the android call recording feature within the phone itself.

Not really "IDIOTS", but more like telephone recording laws and ordinances in different regions and countries, that Google and device manufacturers MUST comply with to be approved and legal. Here in China all Samsungs have call recording as standard, and same with just about all other Android phones available in this country.

I've never rooted a phone before and have heard warnings about it, so I have a few questions:
1. I know it will possibly void the warranty, but if I don't care about that, is rooting generally reasonably safe? Does the danger largely depend on what you do to the phone once it is rooted?
2. Is there a good step-by-step guide to rooting for the A10?
3. Is it definite that rooting will allow me to make changes to uncover and enable the stock call recording facility within the phone itself?
4. Is there anything else I should consider?!

Thanks in advance ...

As for rooting a Samsung A10 and whether it will halp you or not, not sure, but might be some things here.

Disparity beween two Samsung devices

Very many thanks.
You were right about Sxamsung moving things around- The settings icon appeared then disappeared, ot be replaced by a profile picture. It appeared below it but I hadn't seen it. Having done so, however, it was as simple as you described.
As a test, I loaded up a Contact with a known issue (only one line), deleted it from the SIM at its request, then the whole lot came up.
I also changed the default, and willl take your advice re. exporting to a .vcf file.
Kind regards

Help Running phone without battery

Nothing about erasing data on the phone, but I have a tangential issue where I want to power and use a phone without its battery.
Got a few old phones and want to try to re purpose them. Batteries are old.
I can only seem to get them to boot up when the batteries are in them and a charging cable is plugged in.
I looked at the batteries and see that they both supply 3.7v whereby USB charging is at 5v
Seems the batteries are required to run the phones even if you plan to always have them tethered. Which brings me the the point:
At some point in time, the battery will no longer even be able to perform its sigular remaing task being; to regulate the voltage from 5v input to 3.7v output.
Anyone had any luck in hacking a bypass that replaces this final function of the battery? for example installing a voltage regulator in place of the battery?

Strange wifi signals

So to be clear, you are connecting to your router through the SSID Carol? Which are the connections you are worried about?

You can see what they call MAC addresses for each device, the long alphanumeric numbers which are hard coded into each device. You can find these numbers on any of your devices to confirm what is what. If after you have gone round the house identifying all the connected devices MAC addresses against what is connected you still have mystery connections simply boot them off the network, anything you may has missed will soon scream out they are not connection. You should also change the wifi password so these devices can no longer connect to the network.

Trying to find a game I once tried, forgot name

I need some help finding a game. That was on the app store when I was about like 14ish. So about almost 10 years ago.

It was a hidden object/Escape Room Game. It was 2D Cartooney. But it was kind of intense. Like it started off with being in an abandoned train station. And then you had to help your friend cross like a chasm. Once there, you continue to the next part of the story.

And you end up in like a dojo area

And then you kinda end up like in a room locked away. And you have to figure out a way out. And there is a picture on the wall that has what looks to be alchemical symbols.
The first part sounds like Rusty Lake.

Second part, I have no idea, But I am pretty sure that is Rusty Lake.

running android on my network

i have 3 tablets and a lg cell phone. on all the tablets and phone i have an app for viewing my cameras. i'm trying to get faster speed from them but when i connected them up to my router using cat5 cable and a usb to cat5 adapter they all ran slower than they did on wifi.

1. lg phone 7.0 ran 6 mbps wifi 5mbps adapter
2. 3 tablets all ran 13 15 and 25 mbps wifi and 4 to 6 mbps on the adapter. i have 2 adapters i got from walmart and they were about the same.

so is there any way to get speed from a tablet that is better using cable connections over the wifi connections. my router is 2.4 ghz b/g/n capable. it i can find out what tablets if any can do this i will get one for monitoring the cameras. so if anyone happens to know what android version works or what tablets work better on cat5 cable over the wifi please let me know. or even a ipad although i do not have any experience with them or a kindle of any kind. it makes no difference to me as long as i can get speed to them form the network. when i do a speed test on my pc from the network now i get 55 mbps and if i plug it into the modem i get 112 mbps, they tell me my network switch i holding that back as it is a 10/100 switch, so i have a 10/100/1000 in the mail now and can retest that when i get it. i expect the network speed to go up thru the new switch.

but i need to get some more speed into a tablet for better viewing my cameras with. thanks.
