New Note 10 just deleted ALL my saved texts!

First thing: have you tried rebooting the phone? There's no reason a service interruption (which is what this sounds like, as phone calls also stopped working) should do this, but if it's a glitch it might be that the SMS app is not displaying the messages rather than their being gone, in which case a reboot may fix it.

You could also try just installing another SMS app (e.g. Textra) and see whether it can see them (all SMS apps use the same database, so if one has lost sync with it maybe another would be able to see it).

If they really are gone and phone is new, can you re-transfer them from your previous phone or restore them from your backup (i.e. redo whatever you did to copy them in the first place)?

If they are actually gone and you have no backup, they are gone. There are many SMS backup tools available, so if this is important to you I'd recommend using one, but it won't help with this, only in future.

Galaxy S4 Keeps Shutting Off With Full Battery

The S4 model was released in early 2013, if you haven't replaced the battery since then and it's the original one it isn't surprising to have quirky problems with it at this point. There's good and bad to replacing the battery though. The good part is the S4 has a user replaceable battery so it will be really easy to swap batteries -- just remove the back cover and the battery is right there, you might be able to just use a fingernail to do the whole process. The bad part is any after-market battery you buy for a S4 will be pretty dated too. No manufacturer continues to make new batteries for really old phone models, there's no financial benefit to do so, even on a small scale. So any S4 battery you buy now will have sat in storage completely idle and not maintained for years. A smartphone battery will age quicker when in active use but they also age, at a much lessor degree, when they're not charged at least periodically (after several months or annually). Just be sure that wherever you buy your replacement battery that there's a dependable replacement/restocking policy in the event you need to go through more than battery to find an adequate one.

Samsung Galaxy Fold released September 6th

I even tried searching Samsung for "fold", nothing about the Galaxy Fold at all. Maybe they're just trying to forget about it, except for their "news" department

September 6th was only the release date for South Korea.

This Samsung press release suggests the US will get it sometime in September, or early October:
https://news.samsung.com/us/galaxy-fold-launch-new-premier-service-us-consumers/

"The Galaxy Fold will arrive for U.S. consumers in the coming weeks, and will be available in Cosmos Black and Space Silver."

do we know pricing yet? i'm too lazy to google it.....lol
Haven't seen US pricing, but I'd guess around the same $1,980 it was originally supposed to sell for.

App Selection

To be honest I don't know precisely where under the hood this is: I'd have to dig out one of my older (rooted) devices and poke around in /system and see whether I could spot anything. Knowing Android it will be in an sql database somewhere in there.

But I am quite sure that without rooting the phone you will not be able to see it. You'll need administrator access to do something like this.

What file explorer are you using? The one of mine that offers the standard system dialogue for apks is Solid Explorer, and I just checked by setting 'use always' for the system package installer and it has definitely remembered that, even after restarting the device. Now if it's using the system dialogue, rather than handling the intent itself, it shouldn't matter what app you use, but given that my other 2(*) file explorers handle apks differently maybe it is worth trying with a different one just to see.

(*) I also have Google's 'Files' app, which came with the phone, but this is such a mess that I don't count it as a file explorer. It's honestly like they want a file explorer that hides the filesystem from you! Maybe it makes sense to former iPhone users...

Thanks for your help and advice..

Add app to share menu

I create csv and tsv files with no extension, or .txt extension. I want to be able to feed the file into google sheets, but it is not in the list that comes up when i select "share" in my current app. (In fact I'd love to be able to remove some of the choices the menu gives me.)
well all i can say is that apps like google sheets will only except certain types of file. i see no way in forcing an app to except a file extension it was not originally designed for.

maybe somebody with some coding skills might help, but i do not see how you can make an app do this....especially one from google.

have you looked to see if there is another app that accepts those file extensions?

What to commit/push to git

So, I have a repo on GitHub, and I've connected everything together in android studio, but now I don't know what to commit. I originally thought everything updated itself, but then realized you need to push all the changes made to Github. I found out that all the files in red are the one with changes. Once I was connected to github all the files in the project were red, so now I am confused as I don't know if I need to commit/push all the files right now, or leave them be. Also, selecting each file to commit and then pushing them sounds like a lot of unnecessary work when all I want to do is work on a project on my laptop instead of my pc.
