DVD theory..

I am talking about normal dvds, I know a few of them rent from redbox, or their local library, now the way people handle them is insane of having the scratches due to wear and tear, even if pausing them on forever and going to use the kitchen for a long nap or something, that does either hurt it because of dvd players or anything, now I usually slip one in and leave it playing, or turn down the volume, put it on mute whenever someone is talking to me. I have older ones that get so scratched up plenty of times and will not play.

Like Family Guy, Space Ghost C2C, Sing, Ugly American ones, just ontop of my head, but when I binge on anything I leave it on and wait until it is finished to pop out my ps3.. and look at the underneath due to scratches...

Anyone else get that right away of getting it on pause and then having it scratch up?

Suddenly lost all mobile signal.

My phone suddenly lost all signal. The signal strength icon shows a circle with a line through it. I have replaced them sim, tried other sims and the 2nd sim slot. I have done a factory reset on the phone it its still the same.

I dont know what the fault could be. is there a way of telling if it is the SIM card reader or something else? The SIM manager shows my phone number but then Unknown, in what I presume should have been the carrier name.

I can get a SIM repair through SAMSUNG for £99 but I dont know if that will fix the problem. I dont want to spend that much only to find out it isn't the issue.

Are there any suggestions to see if it is a SIM card reader issue or an larger fault with the phone.

Cannot rebuild after changing targetSdkVersion

I have a legacy app and no desire to update it but Google Play told me I have to increase my targetSdkVersion to at least 31. After some experimentation, I changed it to 32.

I now get three red lines in my build.gradle:
implementation 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:28.0.0'
implementation 'com.android.support:design:28.0.0'
implementation 'com.android.support:support-v4:28.0.0'

Hovering on one of these, it told me I needed to upgrade to AndroidX, which I did by choosing Refractor>Migrate to AndroidX... It did some stuff, don't know what. The red lines are still there. If I try to rebuild, I get fifteen errors in values.xml saying "Android resource linking failed" on lines starting:
<declare-styleable name="Constraint"><attr name="android:orientation"/>...

I have upgraded Android Studio to the latest version. Any suggestions what to try next? I find it enormously frustrating that a) I am forced to change my target SDK for an app that hasn't changed in three years and b) when I do, it seems to open a great can of worms and I'm beginning to panic that I will never get this app to compile again.

I have decades of experience as a developer but I don't really understand gradles and stuff. I just want to write some Java and turn it into an app. I seem to end up fighting the developer tools all the way.

App not Installed error when updating the app by installing updated apk file

I have installed latest Android Studio "Android Studio Dolphin | 2021.3.1 Patch 1" in my new laptop and copied existing App folder and its jks file.
I am able to generate Signed APK file in the new Android Studio after updating
versionName in app/build.gradle file. If I install the new apk in my mobile (where the app is already installed with previous versionName), it says "app is not installed" error.

In my old Android Studio, I was able to update versionName, generate apk file and able to update the app.

Could you please tell what could be the issue.

Note:
- my apk/app is installed in the mobile by enabling "allow from unknown sources".
- in old Android Studio, while generating Signed APK, there were options for Signature Version as V1 and V2. I used to enable both of them to generate the apk. but in the latest Android Studio, it is not shown. Could that be a reason ?

Comet-c2022-e3-ztf

Okay, I'll admit to being a bit out there when it comes to being fascinated by viewing the night skies. I even invested in a top of the line amateur telescope and spent countless nights with my children observing the heavens. We rarely missed a night viewing the heavier meteor showers. Once they were grown and away from home, we all met in Nebraska to be in the umbra of the last total solar eclipse and vowed to travel again for the next. We be sky junkies so forgive me for sharing the link below. A comet, the name is the title of this thread, is making its round in our visible sky though this month. It will be difficult to see with the naked eye. It will take a clean dark sky and perhaps binoculars to see. It may seem silly to even try to see it but it will cost nothing but time. Time.... it was 50,000 years ago when it last passed our way. I'm hoping for clear sky Saturday the 21st which will be a new moon (no moon) and will go to my cabin away from the city lights to better my chances of a sighting.

Help Turn off simcard

I use Samsung S22 with a work number and a private number.

Can someone help me set up Tasker so that the job number is switched off between 1800 and 0600 Monday to Friday and all of Saturday and Sunday. I need help step by step because I'm quite an amateur when it comes to Tasker.

I don't trust my English so Google Translate has helped me :)

Internal audio recorder app for S22 (and android tablets)

I'm looking for an app I can install on my S22 and my android tablet (Samsung A8) that will record internal audio.

I know my phone has the screen recorder app but I don't want to recording to be in a video format, I want it to be in mp3 or other audio format.

For instance, if I'm listening to a radio show or game on my phone or tablet, I want to make an audio recording of that show or game.

Is there an app that will do this?
I'm willing to pay for it, so money is not an issue.
Thanks

Help [Doubt] Android publishing app policies

Hello everyone,
I'm developing an application where the main usability is not the pornography, however I don't want to make my app policies strict so they are free to do it. When this happens this content does not appear on the main screen and to see it you have to "follow" the user and confirm you may watch sensitive content.
Could this app be published to the market?
On the policies it says that is not allowed any type of pornography, but is not too clear to me because Twitter, Reddit, Telegram and all this type of application contains it...
Can someone help me? I don't catch at all the android policies...
Thank you in advance!!

Is there a better SMS voice to text than Google?

Goggle voice to text is incredibly bad. It makes every mistake under the sun including grammar and I want to just take my phone out back and shoot it... but I know it's not the phone's fault, it's Google's crappy software.

I would even pay for a plan if I can get some sort of smart or learning voice to text to take over in my text messaging. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Beginner Android Studio setup

I was watching this on youtube and noticed that everything is completed automatically in his Android Studio.

For example at 3:08 he gets a drop down menu in MainActivity.kt which consists of the id's created in activity_main.xml. I do get a dropdown but it doesn't consist of the id's that I created in activity_main.xml. Am I missing some imports or are some settings wrong?

AOD like apps and battery consumption.

Hi,
I'm using a Moto g42 and I'm missing the AOD feature a lot (peek display is way too sensitive, so I had turned that bloody thing off). I tried to use some AOD apps, but all of them have the same problem - the battery usage is around 10% per hour, which is insane. In comparison - the native Samsung AOD, uses around 1% per hour, being all the time visible on the screen.
Why there is such a big diffrence in battery drain? Is there any way/mod so that those AOD aps used much less power or behaved like native AODs?

Thanks

Help Android Box lost system files and needs rebuild

Hi. I'm afraid I am an Android newbe and not sure how to resolve this issue. So any help would be very much appreciated. Anyway, I have this Android box - a "Trongle X4" that came loaded with Kodi etc that I didn't want. Rather than delete it, I thought I would be clever and do a Factory reset, deleting all data.
It didn't reboot, so I unplugged and re-plugged in the device. I fould out later, you were supposed to leave it a long time, so I have ended up with the device getting to the "Android Recovery" screen which I believe is quite common, when I was searching on Google for hopefully answers.
I tried all the options - you can see in the second image "E: Cannot load volume /misc!" so I am guessing I need to load some files on a USB stick and reload from there. I may have deleted some necessary files when I unplugged and re-plugged in perhaps?
I tried all the other options as well on the "Android Recovery" list to no avail.
Bearing in mind, I haven't a clue what I'm doing, would anyone kindly be able to tell an idot like me, the steps I need to go through to get the Android box up and running again to an Android screen like I originally had (photo also below) and foolishly deleted? Many thanks in advance.

Strange use of zero battery

It keeps happening very sporadically on my 6-yr-old unrooted doogee s60 lite.

https://mega.nz/file/SVcVFLQI#GjU85CF_8zes43CZxF66l3LahLt7-mKGwG-bNBbuFpo

In case the image does not show, this is a battery app screenshot showing that for some 7 hours, my phone did not use a single percent of energy. It was on, lying on the table half a day untouched, screen off.

As I look at the system battery reading - the same.

What does it mean? how is it possible, and if it is, why does it happen sometimes and otherwise does not?

The phone has not been restarted for several days, it has icebox installed which does make much difference, but so spectacular?

Most importantly, how to replicate this? :)
