Orange UK 2.1 update news

I can't help with the first issue as I've had no trouble using Sync with 2.1. Can you still mount the memory card on the PC?

The newly-released version of HTC Sync only supports the Wildfire atm due to the new media sync features that have been added. Hopefully the program will be updated soon to support all 2.1 handsets.

I cannot mount the SD card.
I have the default connection type set to disc drive, but I do not get the USB notification in the task bar. if I look in my computer on PC, it shows removable disc E, but when I click on it it, nothing there, just shows 'insert disc into drive E'.
I have tried connecting PC my girlfriends Legend (Android 2.1) to my PC - works fine.
I also have tried ticking the USB debugging box and connecting. It came up with an install wizard, but asked for the disc supplied with the device.

I am slowly getting there. I read on another thread that removing the battery while phone is turned on cures the problem. Amazingly it worked!
I can now view my SD card, and sync with PC. Internet sharing is still not working tho.

Hi folks

OK, got around to updating to .66 in readiness for 2.1.

Downloaded HTC Sync and the .66 stuff from HTC. Can I get the PC to 'see' the phone? Can I b*****ks. I've tried booting both the PC and the phone but the little icon in the tray just stays grey. :(

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time....

Hi,
I started a separate thread for a different issue, but now that I've managed to download the .66 update on to my computer I thought I'd post my next issue here:

I have now attempted three times to run the ROM update (I'm with Orange, and PC has XP), however every time it comes up with an error shortly after saying:

Runtime error
Program: ...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

The phone only has an image of some characters, saying RUU in use. To re-try I have to take the battery out of the phone, as it is stuck with the RUU/Android image on the screen.

Anyone has this problem? It of course doesn't appear in the "to do/help" list when you download the RUU.
Thanks

I have a Hero on 1.5. After hours of reading forums etc, trying 3 different USB cables etc, downloading Sync and .66, enabling USB debugging, I finally get the phone to show the connection to the laptop in the notification bar. HURRAH! :D

Of course after the 'Verification' screen, the RUU simply says that it can't see the d*mn phone. No matter that the phone syncs with no problem via HTC sync. I tried it on a Win 7, Vista and XP PC. Nope, zip, nada. How difficult can this be? It just isn't worth the effort is it?

Anybody got any ideas before I just ebay the 'phone and get an iphone or Desire? After this experience I'm not enthusiastic about HTC anymore...:( so it may be apple.

So, after taking the 'phone to work and trying 3 different computers it suddenly worked! So now updated and restoring via Wave Secure. Looks pretty smart and file transfer is great. What a procedure though. Glad that's over....

wow!!! that would send me mad!
i really dont want to go through that!

Mine still only connects to PC when I pull the battery, but it only seems to work for a short time.
Also the phone is often slow to open my phone contacts and other aps, it seems to be when the sync symbol is showing in the task panel.
I have tried turning sync off, but it makes no difference.
I can live with most of the problems but find it unacceptable when the basic phone functionality is affected. It sometimes takes ages for me to make a phone call.
wishing I hadn't done the 'official' software upgrade.

So, after having been on the HTC for ages trying to Run the .66 ROM upgrade, I am finally told why I've been having problems doing it - my computer has service pack 3 (XP) which it doesn't support...
I guess I should have checked, but assumed it would support this standard service pack (my work PC has the same).
Not very helpful anyway, now I'm on the hunt for a computer with a service pack 2 that I can try it on.
Should it really be this hard??

I am afraid they are talking nonsense. I have XP with Service Pack 3 and had no issues whatsoever in downloading and installing the .66 upgrade, or in syncing to my computer.

Ditto, talking out of a well known hole best sat on :)

XP3 here no issues at all, sounds like some of the drivers arent installing on sync properly, you did download sync, disconnect from net and disable anti-viri before installing sync? It does say thats the best way to get it to instal cleanly and properly, though I never bother but then I am a rebel without a clue :)

Really!
I spent ages on the phone to them yesterday, and the last reason the guy could come up with for why it wouldn't work was the service pack (as it says on the .66 requirements that it only supports SP2).
I might try again today on another computer then - also XP SP3... Watch this space!

Thanks both of you - I have now uploaded both the .66 ROM AND the 2.1!!
Had to try it on a different laptop a colleague kindly brought in for me, and it went without problems.
Am tempted to e-mail HTC support to tell them they were wrong...

I finally got it to work after using somebody elses laptop (I'm on windows 7)
I backed all my data and apps up with mybackup pro but now i have to pay for it again, does anybody know how I can get it back?

Yep,

Slug's correct [as always], if you log on it then tells which progs you've downloaded and you can download them again FOC.

Max.

Hello Folks,

Got me an Orange branded and locked Hero, was running 1.5 when I got it and got the text for the OTA update, Got home and hooked up to my wifi and downloaded it and noticed it was 2.1, superb!! Only problem is that its sitting at 2.1 part 1 and has been stuck there for a month, tried the forward and backward date thing to no avail, any ideas?

Also my signal was superb before the update, now all I hear is 'ping' unable to send text, retrying. Is there anyway to change the radio even if it means rooting? Can you seperate the radio from the ROM

ooo I also have the l'il anonymous dude every morning when I wake up and turn my phone on.

Anyone?

Marti ...

It'll sit like that for a lot longer Marti.... there isn't a part 2! The "-1" is some sort of internal build reference known only to HTC.

Is the call performance okay? Wifi? If the only problems are with text msgs the first thing to do is double-check the APN settings.

Radio updates are completely separate from ROMs, so yes. It might even be possible without root, but that'll need confirmation.

Don't quote me on this, but I thought 2.1-update1 was part of google's naming scheme. I've heard about the motorola droid running update1 for example.

And I think you could switch radios without rooting. But really you're still in a grey area when it comes to your warranty, like you would be if you rooted.

Hmmmmm I thought the Orange Update was in 2 parts, the first was a preparation then a much largerupdate came a few days later, check in the menu and phone info or somthing, look for the software version and build number.

The blank message, I have traced.....I bet it is dated and timed for your LAST missed call, seems Orange have messed up the internals somehow, so where you reboot the phone you get an anonomus text which coresponds exactly to your last missed call....well mine does anyway.

And just for interest why turn your phone off every night? put it on silent or similar (Airplane mode) no need to reboot every morning ;)

Thx for the quick reply guys. Right err call performance and wifi also suck. Had to use g/f's iphone to make a call yesterday to the same number standing in the same part of the house. We're both on Orange. APN settings are fine, I checked em, even restored to default (which was an option). I have two APN settings, orange internet and orange mms. Mines is on orange internet......

Warranty? I dont give a monkeys about the warranty, I'm a geek and Ive always been a geek. My winmo days didnt go 24hrs without a fresh ROM change just for fun, and besides its not the most expensive droid. If it was a Desire or Galaxy S I'd think twice (dont wanna sound blase about it, I do care) ....

The Orange update in 2 parts, yeah after reading this thread thats what I came to believe is that I only had the first part and the second was still to come...

I never thought about airplane mode, it was a force of habit turning it off as I used to get text and emailed every minute of the day in my past and the only way to get peace and sleep was 'kill the phone'

Software Number: 3.35.61.2
Build Number: 3.35.61.2 CL196735

I hope this helps .... :)
