Orange UK 2.1 update news

Is anybody else here running an unlocked orange hero with std V1.5 software on another network eg O2.

If so any ideas how to upgrade it to 2.1?

Only thing I can think of is to 'borrow' somebodys sim and sit of the wifi and force the update through date change etc.
anybody got any other ideas??

Ensure your handset has the latest 1.5 firmware onboard (2.73.61.66, available from HTC's support site) and then the 2.1 OTAs should come down to you. The mobile networks are immaterial to delivering the update; that comes from HTC's servers. You'll receive the Orange update because your Hero will be identified as an Orange-branded device by its ID but you're not required to be connected to the Orange network to do so.

Hope this helps.

Perfect Slug!! many thanks, might just try to fiddle with the date as it is then, to see if I can kickstart it!

Got the same problem as jimjim had, can't get a log in to my google account with the error Can't establish a reliable data Connection to the server, tried a factory reset, but the problem continues, any suggestions?

Hi can anyone help. I have an unlocked HTC Hero (previously locked to Orange) and I've just done the 2.1 firmware update, but have now lost 3G and mobile internet connectivity.
I tried to manually enter my APN settings (I'm on O2) but I can't even get in to the APN menu in "settings", the screen just goes blank.

Can anyone help?
Do I need to roll-back the update and re-update without the Orange CSC files? If so how do I do this?

Please help - I'm lost without mobile internet.

Thanks

Unable to update to 2.73.61.66 build. Manage to get htc sync 2.0.33 to sync with hero. Versions are confirmed to update, then it waits for bootloader and times out after a count of 80. Also noticed in device manager that bootloader driver loads, but requires a restart. If you reboot, the whole cycle starts again and you just go round in circles. Running Windows 7 64bit. Have also tried win7 32bit different machine. Tried virtual box 3 with vista home premium and also winxp pro sp3, but unable to sync at all in any of the virtual machines. Current hero version:

Firmware 1.5
Baseband version 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Build number 2.73.61.5 146733 CL#61267 release-keys
Have tried a lot of procedures since 2.1 was launched. Spent all week so far in trying to get to .66. If I can bypass this I would be grateful. Logged call with HTC but not expecting much help. :(

My wifes Hero (unlocked Orange and running on O2) has just done the updates. all went very smooth except that it moaned that it did not have enough space in the phone so make sure you have 25mb spare.
Typed in the APN seetings again and all seems to work pretty sweet!!!

Just did the 'official' update, seems to be working fine (so far) seems 'snappier'. Anyone know if Google maps navigation is available for 2.1 hero, and where to find it?
thanks

Gary

Hi,

My Nav isn't under maps, there's a new blue arrow called navigation, then you'll need to download and install the voice app. taint to good on English though, I said London and it came up Memphis. [wonder if there's a stand alone UK version].

Max.

Yes, that's the quickest option, but if you 'Get Directions' in Maps, at the start of the directions there are options to 'Show on map' or 'Navigate'. If you select 'Navigate' it's the same as running the 'Navigation' app. A good way to check you have the latest version of Maps.

Thanks guys, maps working.
Next problem - My PC and phone do not communicate anymore. I have set default connection type to HTC sync in the connect to PC setting options, and ticked the background data and auto-sync boxes in the accounts and sync setting options.
I also tried to update the HTC 3.0 sync software but when I put my phone serial number in, it says the software is not suitable for my phone, although it is for version 2.1 and higher.
Any ideas?
