Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

I really hope CyanogenMod gets ported over to the Droid X so we can have some of this:

There's lots of devs over at xda-developers.com also that compile and build from scratch. At least there are several that build for the Eris. There are those that re-assemble vs. re-compile, but I would assume that that's just a stepping-stone to compiling directly from source.

I haven't visited the Droid X thread over on xda for a while, but I'm sure there's guys ready and waiting for custom recovery and the ability to flash or install custom ROMs.

Thanks for letting me know, those two are just the ones I think of, coming from the droid. But regardless not all devs compile from source to build roms

+1 ...I volunteered to help-out one of the Eris devs deodex a ROM one morning several weeks back (he sent me the ROM and pointed me to the deodex tool and off I went)...had no idea what I was doing at the time :eek:, but it was pretty cool and I learned a little bit in the process. :)

P.S. trying to avoid thinking about the droid x bootstrap app but its not working;)
 
Yeah, I can't stop refreshing my Twitter feed. I'm supposed to wake up in 7 hours to go on a five mile run. I'm going to be extremely tired, but if the Bootstrap app comes out, it'll be worth it.

How old fashion! I have a smart phone (I can't think of the name but I keep seeing X for some reason) that notifies me when they tweet. :rolleyes: It's magic!!

I'm killing time missing with the new App Inventor. Anyone else get an invite?

Wonder if roms that are compatible with one recovery are going to be for the other, and what are the devs going to choose as their recovery of choice, all the droid 1 owners know how sprecovery was pretty much phased out in favor of clockwork

I signed up with three different email accounts and haven't gotten an invite :(. So, I got tired of waiting so I asked an awesome Eris dev (jcase from XDA) for a little help and I wrote my first app last week. Its a simple app that will calculate an MD5 or SHA1 sum of a file on your phone. Let me know if you want a copy or want me to post a link. Got plans for a better UI (file selector instead of having to type in filename), but its pretty cool and fun developing apps.

Hey I just put my first "Pet my Kitty" app on the market for $0.99. Now I just have to wait for the $$ to roll in. :D
 
I'll say this. I'm hoping, beyond hope, that Birdman and Rainabba can get over their differences with Koush and release the 2.2 ROM they've been working on.

Past that, I just ran a Nandroid backup...
 
Just downloaded it. It takes literally 3 seconds to install the recovery, I am in recovery right now and doing a nandroid backup:D:D:D:D:D:D
 
what are the immediate benefits of doing this? seeing how there currently aren't any roms and some things are not yet accessible. also does this root your device as well or is that a separate prerequisite?
 
best thing about this right now is making a backup image of you system. that way if you delete an app and it causes instability you can just restore your last known working backup.

No it doesn't root it also. And for now you can just make backups and restore them...like me:)
