Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

Don't forget the AllDroid has a developer X, that is running Froyo with a 2.2 kernel. I'm pretty sure that they are trying to see if they can use that kernel with Froyo. If so, then we're in business.

The phone is actually in birdman and crews hands and that is what they are trying to do.

theonly downside is that version of froyo is not 100% complete for us x users. There are various bug fixes that is suppose to come out along with the OTA froyo.

Without the kernel I may wait until after 2.2. Seems like once we have the new kernel through ota then the current method would be far more desirable. That's if I understand it right but that's the way I see it from the info we have now. Bug fixes could be important (and usually are) and that may be a problem also, even after new kernel, if they are kernel fixes.

Oh well.

Lastest tweet from alldroid is they need a day off.....WTF LAZY!!!! @$@#%@:D

BTW where do you go to donate to these guys? When they wake up and get back to work (I'm just joking don't kill me ) I think I'm going to owe them a little appreciation.

If we send enough maybe we can convince them to give up this thing they call sleep.

Exactly, Birdman is senior staff at Alldroid, hence why I said Alldroid.

Either way, the 2.2 kernel on the dev phone will be good enough. Someone will be able to do a system dump on OTA 2.2 and pull that kernel out too.

Isn't the trick getting it on and accepted by the phone? And is it encrypted?

yeah the problem doesn't have anything to do with a kernel being available or compatible. The kernel source for the Dx is GPL licensed so Moto is required by law to release its code.

Its getting that kernel on the damn phone thats the problem!

Well it seems to be a big deal

w00t! So, as I understand it, we get this ability, slapping on 2.2., then we don't have to do the VZW update, right? We don't miss out on anything, I assume? :) TIA.

(gimme dat 1-click, baby.)

Agreed you will still have to have a update.zip that is signed to work with the stock recovery in order to flash the kernel I think. Perhaps the recovery will be able to flash the boot partition but it wont work unless its a stock kernel.

Nandroid worked on the Droid X. Trying to figure out why I don't have adb in "recovery" now though.

anybody who makes custom roms after we get this thing cracked will be "taking advantage" of whoever's work. Don't be a troll. if you don't like Kuosh tell him, NOT us

Ask me if I care one little bit what your opinion of my posts are. Bird and Rain asked him if he wanted to work together and he declined and now that they figured out how to get recovery running on this thing he's trying to beat them to the punch by getting his recovery out first...

I guess there is really no need to ask anything. So long as we are on the same page here. I'm just saying if I had a problem with what someone was doing, I would talk to them about it. Not bash them on a forum they don't even look at most of the time.

Koush isn't stealing anyone's work. He has been collaborating with Birdman on Birdman's recovery.

Koush makes money off ROM Manager. Of course he is going to make Clockwork Recovery work on the X, that's a few thousand new customers for him. Why wouldn't he? What Alldroid is working on is a different recovery tool, using the CW Mod interface. So, similar products, same end-state.

I wouldn't bash one over the other. Besides, it's open source. It's not like AllDroid patented the process by which they're hijacking the Bootloader.

All any of us should care about is that there are at least three developers working their butts off right now to bring us custom ROMs. I don't care who gets it out, as long as it doesn't brick my phone.

Exactly. It sounds like there's a personal beef there too, but that's none of my business. I'll use whatever works best on my phone.

Honestly, if I can get stock Froyo onto my X, I'll donate a pile of cash to whoever makes it happen. I don't care who it is. :)

Not really. Bird and Rain figured all this shit out and Koush is basically trying to capitalize on their hard work...

How exactly does one capitalize on something that hasn't been released?

Koush isn't my favorite person (how could he be I don't know him) but its not like he doesn't have the credentials for doing this, I mean he made, arguably the most popular recovery software out for Android, and accompanying app.

He also uses a similar technique for getting clockworkmod recovery to work for several other phones. Its called fakeflash
