Root Droid X sbf File Released....Now you can unbrick

If you flash .sbf it will revert you back to 2.1, un-root your phone, and you will be able to get OTA. Now, there is no guarantee that you will able to root official 2.2 right away. However Droid 2 was successfully rooted, so I would think we should have no problem to root official 2.2.

You don't have to unroot to get OTA updates. Root is simply having administrative type permissions (to steal a Windows OS term). It cannot effect you getting an OTA update. However, loading an OTA update usually reverses the root permissions and requires a person to reroot their phone. If the know root exploits have been patched in the official OTA update, you will have to wait until a new exploit can be found. Sometimes the updates are patched and sometimes they are not.

If you are running a leaked 2.2 version, personally I would wait until the OTA is released. People will be able to tell us if the official 2.2 verson is better than the leaked version and you can decide then whether you want to go back to 2.1 and get the official version.

It's not like you have to load the OTA update the day it is released or you loose the ability to do it! Wait and see which is better before you go through the effort of going back to 2.1. Odds are the official OTA update will be patched and it might be a few day/weeks before we get root again on the official 2.2 release.

You don't have to be unroot, but you do have to have official 2.1 to update. Anyway, as sic said, don't rush to upgrade, official wouldn't be much different from leak. Ability to use root apps is much more important then minor changes and tweaks.
Also, I'm sure on day one of official OTA rollover, you will be able to download it and install manual, or archive it until official release is rooted.
Just check androidcentral.com, they already have instructions how to manually install 2.2 for Incredible.

OK I reverted to 2.1 last night (pretty easy actually it was easier then the direction on OP).
When I plugged in the device it automatically went into the booloader.

Anyway my question is has anyone heard that 1 must do the SBF a second time due to issues?
Even though I have not had my daily soft reboots today its a little sluggish, also at times it says hat there is no data when I have full wifi reception at this location and via the wifi antenna in the notification bar...

A second question is if I root now will that effect me from receiving the OTA?
I so miss my rooted apps...
They are sop much better than there counter (un-rooted) app's.

Thanks

Nope never heard that. You need to wipe data though

Yeah at first I got stuck in the boot cycle then wiped cache and data..
All good from there.
First day no random reboots.

Now to figure out if it was the rooting or 2.2?

it was the 2.2

Hey hows it going.
You have heard of this happening becuase of the leaked 2.2?

If so think I should root again or should I just sit tight and wait for the OTA???
I don't want to do anything that will interfere with the OTA when it comes.

Yet I miss my rooted apps...
So much better than the un-rooted ones.

Thanks

Guide???

Yeah I originally missed it after rebooting I was in the continuous cycled to the Droid to red eye (or whatever that is).
I then pulled the battery and went into recovery and wiped the data and cache..
After it booted right up n/p.

Think I should root or wait?
Any effect on the OTA when its released?

come on man, you know I am going to say root, get flyx

yes, but you can always flash back, custom roms are always a step ahead though

Not sure what to do..
I want to root again becuase of the app's available, but I also want to go 2.2 without constant reboots.

See you are rooted and on the 2.2 which caused me constant reboots daily...
I mean 2-3 minimum, since last night not a 1...

So either I wait now I can use easy root which will root and un-root 1 button right?
So when the 2.2 OTA is released tat should work?

dx method?
Is that what I couldn't get right the first time?

And thats not helping me to decide...
If I root will I get the OTA?
Are you experiencing reboots daily on 2.2?

Rot first and OTA or wait and root after.

Again whats dx method??

Thanks

Figured out the guide thing now.

I have my phone stuck. Whenever I get the bootloader screen up, it just says: battery too low, cannot program. I am stuck in the motorola M boot screen and do not get past that even when plugged into the wall charger. Can someone help point me in the right direction? Thanks

If what was rooting or 2.2? If you're talking about looping after flashing back to 2.1 that's just the way is. Probably more to do with the 2.1 sbf than rooting or 2.2.

So is your battery charged up? When your flashing the sbf I don't think you are in charging mode. So having it plugged in would make no difference. But I'm not 100% on that charging thing so....take it for what its worth.

The phone will not turn on or work until the battery has been charged to a certain percentage, just leave it on the charger for a while first.

What was causing the multiple random reboots.
