Root ROOTING For Dummies

Its all preference... I delete them for a couple of reasons. If I don't want to app now, I'm not gonna want it later, and I don't use titanium back-up so I don't want to pay six bucks just to freeze some apps. Either way of doing it is no better than the other. And if you do delete and for whatever reason you want them back, you can simply wipe cache and dalvik and then reflash the rom and all of the apps will be back.

I'm not bold enough to be flashing anything at this point (pun intended). :) Also titanium backup is the same as nandroid backup right? It includes it right? I read that some where I believe. I did use titanium back up.

No. Titanium backs up your apps and data, where a nandroid backs up your comlete system.

Okay guys i need help. I rooted my evo 3.70 with unrevoked. well my battery charge port is messing up, so i need to take it back. okay heres what i did
-rooted with unrevoked 3.3
-un rooted with ruu 3.26 for the evo cuz only one tht would work on windows 7.
then i noticed my ship was set s-off so i used the s-on tool from unrevoked forever an use unrevoked to turn s on i had to root again so did that well i turned the ship s-on well now when i use ruu to unroot it says get proper hboot or something like that, if ya need me to get what it says ill run it agian let me know

Yeah, I thought you would have problems doing it that way. Did you read the instructions in the OP (Section 5 under "after rooting"? You need to get the proper PC36IMG.zip for your hboot, copy it to the root of your sdcard, then flash it from hboot.

Unrevoked sets s-off lower than hboot. Before you attempt to flash the pc36img.zip file, you must flash the unrevoked s-on tool, first. Keep doing it until you see s-on in hboot. Once it says s-on, you can flash the pc36img.zip file. Your phone will then be completely unrooted.

Lmao i skimmed threw that guide an man iv done answered so many unanswered questions i had lol. i never used that guide to root or anything. im gonna un root this damn piece of crap, an read this thing an when i get mine fixed im gonna re do the whole process. thanks man you really helped me out

I need help.

I'm trying to root my EVO using unrevoked and it is stuck on the "Pushing Recovery..." screen and has been for the last hour or so. HELP PLEASE!

just nuke the process and start over you won't affect anything unless your phone is going through the reboot process.

Actually Ookami...I did that over and over lol but I kept it going in the background while I did some other stuff so it took about..2 and a half hours? and it finally rebooted, said it was doing recovery and all that, and now it's rooted :D I'm actually using it's wifi tether as we speak!!

Thanks for the help though, much appreciated. I've got this now.

if you do exactly what the un rooting guide tell's you to do you should not have any problems. Just download the image file, throw it on your sd card should be named pc3.......zip go. dont unzip the folder on your computer just put it straight on the sd card. then to to hboot an it should read your sd card an see that you have that update on there an start reading it an then ask to update say yes. and let it do its thing. i didnt even have to go into recovery

i got a quick question i know its not about anything in this thread but people answer back fast in this one so here goes... my battery port on my phone is messing up an i have to jiggle it an find the sweet spot to charge. when i take it to the sprint store will the fix it right then an there, or give me a new phone right then an there an would it cost anything i have insurance. it shouldnt cuz its just from ware an tare, right?

I had to get my speaker fixed it took 15 min.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I have a macbook and the mac version on unrevolked requires you to basiclly do nothing but download and watch!! could not be easier!
Not that I want to, but if I ever need to return to stock (for service etc...) is the mac version different than in post one?

Just a few questions (please forgive my ignorance):
How do i get the programs I saved to the SD card?
Is there a free way to freeze programs? I would rather not spend 5+ dollars on titanium backup...and would rather not delete the files per the awesome guide

Yes, there are quite a few file manager apps out there. You can use Estrongs File Manager (my personal favorite), Astro, or Root Explorer. Once you have a file manager app downloaded, you'll be able to go to the root directory of your sd card and see what you've saved there.

As for an app to freeze programs, bloatware, etc., Titanium Backup is your best bet. So it's time to pony up $5 and freeze your apps the right way! :D
