"Samsung has a revenue of more than three times Apple's revenue, and employs 7 times the number of people. They provide more jobs in the US than Apple does, by a wide margin. They also pay more taxes to the US, own more land and offices in the US, and contribute meaningful science to the US outside of the ridiculous consumer electronics that we're concerning ourselves with here."

I would like to read it for myself. The Samsung link does not contain this info that I could see. Thanks. Bill

What country is the iPhone made in?

What country are Samsung products made in?

Which of these countries is closely allied to the US?

Who bought a company, pulled their software from all devices including their own, then released it as an "innovative" exclusive on their newest device?

Who manufactures their wares at FOXCONN so they can turn a blind eye to worker suicide, chemical fires, etc...?

If you really think any large, successful corporation is benevolent...think again. It's just a matter of who is less evil.

It's up to the consumer. If you need to pay your rent this month and you instead blow it on a phone, you deserve to be evicted. Yes, this is a terrible economy, but unfortunately we live in a world of idiots who want everything NOW, without having to work and save for it. They want things to be like when they were kids and their stupid parents couldn't say no.

It's not as simple as eviction. It's mortgage bailouts, foreclosures, credit card debt (that gets bought down), bankruptcy... All these things end up costing us, the responsible consumers. I'm not saying Apple is the only one, or the root, but they're part of the problem with price fixing and incremental upgrades. Think about the fact that an iPhone 4 32gb was $299 on contract right up until the announcement. In any other consumer situation, you generally only pay full price like that as a first-adopter as the prices drop over time through manufacturer wholesale cost cuts and reseller competition.

October 11 was going to be the announcement, right? Why couldn't it have been, say, October 3, the day before the iPhone event? Jobs was still alive then, so it had nothing to do with that. The only reason that comes to mind is because they believed that the iPhone event would trump and overshadow the Prime announcement, and kill all buzz. This makes me think that perhaps the Prime is not the "game changer" that we were thinking it was going to be. It may end up being just on par, or even inferior, to the Vigor (yes, yes, except for battery, blah blah blah).

Guys, I'm getting worried that with all this processor speculation, etc., we're hyping up this phone to epic proportions, and all we're doing is setting ourselves up for severe disappointment.

Hey bro, ease off the anxiety! You're making an awful long reach there to explain the Prime announcement timing when simpler and more innocuous ones are available.

Yes they didn't announce it right before iP4S (iPhone 5 as was assumed at the time), likely due to a justifiable fear of being overshadowed by the Apple hype machine. But that says nothing about Prime's potential inadequacies and everything about not wasting the opportunity of a big Samsung announcement that will inevitably be overshadowed by an Apple announcement, no matter how good or bad the Apple is.

It is very possible that citizens worldwide will fail to drop to their knees and genuflect when Prime is released, but I'm pretty damn certain most of us 100,000+ viewers here will be sufficiently impressed when it is. Well, y'know, until the next superphone comes out. ;)

Weird. I know it's official, but Oct. 18 is a Tuesday.

What is going on in the world!? I'm so confused.

tomorrow is tuesday. they were going to announce the prime. i'm not seeing the problem with tuesdays here. are you a daycisit or something?

You shouldn't hate Apple for trying to make a buck (or several billion :)). If people can't afford their house payment and choose to buy an 16GB iPhone 4S for $200 when they could pick up an 8GB iPhone 4 for $100...or even an iPhone 3GS for free (AT&T only), then that is their problem.

No, my friend. It ends up your and my problem. I don't like any company that practices price fixing, especially at 70% profit margin. Kinda hard to separate Apple from any of the corporate greed on Wall Street. And don't get me wrong, I've used and love Apple products (Mac, iPod, iPhone). I just can't bring myself to overpay for their products. Maybe I'm more responsible than the average consumer.

The reason that there will not be a launch this week has to do with the Court case on 10/13/11 in California. Apple vs Samsung.

If Apple gets its way say goodbye Prime.....

Guys, the wedding yesterday was AWESOME. Beautiful, gorgeous day. I had to read like 8 pages of stuff when I got back on. But, as I hinted before, I was deluged with iPhone talk. It's amazing to me how many people have this stupid phone! And, what's even more amazing, is the amount of people that are upgrading from Verizon iPhone (released 8 months ago) to Verizon iPhone 4S. I told like 10 people "But you're getting the same phone! It looks the same!"

And the responses I got varied from either "Yeah, but when I bought mine it was only in black, and I want a white one" to "Yeah, but you've got Siri!"

Wow. Just wow.

Anyway, this RAZR announcement has got me thinking, guys. It's got me thinking! And you all know how much I don't like to think!

I might have to just check it out. Especially if we get no word on Prime before the 18th. :(

It remains to be seen if Motorola can release a phone on Verizon within 8 months.

I had a conversation with a iPhone 4 to 4S up-grader and he kept trying to tell me the 4S was going to have such a better camera than the Google Nexus Droid Prime. after I told him that nobody knows what the Nexus Prime was going to be he just kept quoting BGR and their 5MP rumor. Arguments about megapixels got nowhere with this iSheep. They are very frustrating.

It's mind numbing that they hit 1 million pre-orders for the 4s...
No it is not.

In June 24th 2010, with only one carrier (at&t), Apple sold 600,000 iPhone 4 within few hours (my wife tried to order at 9am that day and all were sold out). They said 600,000 in first 24 hours but actually it was only around 6-7 hours.

Last Friday, with all 3 carriers (at&t and Verizon are same size, Sprint is 1/2 size of at&t), and they sold 1 million 4S. All sites were still up and taking orders later that day. at&t said they sold 200,000 in first 12 hours.

at&t sold a lot less than 600,000 iPhone 4S in first 24 hours this year, that's my guess.

My point was that a $200 iPhone vs. a $200 Nexus Phone = the same price to consumers. I really don't care if Apple makes a 100% profit on it...if so, good for them IMO. Some of their other product lines like computers are much more ridiculous. Still not as bad a the jewelry industry as far as "mark up" though :D

I don't want to clog up the thread with this discussion (although a good one). If you want to discuss, PM me ;) We gotta get back on topic and damn you for making me go off-topic...the other Mods beat me in a back room when I do this :D (Steven can swing a pipe let me tell you...I'm still typing with one hand LOL).

No, it appears (at least to me) that they are planning on releasing it then, not merely announcing it.

But I suppose an announcement announcing an announcement, although stupid as all get out, keeps in line with Verizon's thinking.

Only in the first couple weeks until third parties start discounting the Nexus phone.

You're right, and no need to discuss further. And sorry for getting you in trouble. :o

**ck throws the fickle HanSolo out of the Prime thread and locks him out**

Good move, he's such a Debbie Downer. :(

Whaa? I'm the downer? I'm just trying to keep the hype in perspective. There's a few on here who have gotten people so worked up that if we don't get this new Exynos chip that isn't even shipping yet, they'll be disappointed.

I'm trying to not set myself up to get Bionic'd. Again. By the same company who keeps doing it to us.

Also, I'm trying to be realistic. A video of the Prime pops up, and just because it doesn't look as pretty as some guy's fantasy drawing, people are quick to call it BS. I'm trying to inject a little bit of realistic thinking into this thread. But I suppose I shouldn't pop bubbles. Sorry guys.

Let me change my gears. . .Ok, done.

The Prime is going to be freaking amazing!! Oh my god, I can't believe that we live in the period of human history in which the Prime will land! This is better than when people got the first car! Holy crap, I'm going to be able to have one device where I will be able to watch HD movies, play video games, read books, surf the web, talk to others by video chat, organize my time (although most of my calendar will be marked with "Play with the Prime"), download Netflix movies and view them on my TV, listen to music, etc. etc. etc. And who cares about the form factor, because this Prime will come with a new super-special skin that will change depending on what you like. If it's rounded, and you make a disgusted face, the face-recognition software will keep changing its skin until you smile! It will be a curved screen, oh, but not too curved, because people want the curve just. . .right. . .like that, yes. And it will be thin, but it can't be too thin, because then people won't believe that it has LTE. And it will be metal, but some really super-light metal so that people don't feel like they took a dump in their pants. . . .and the battery will be only 1700 mAh, because people don't want a battery that is too heavy or big (again, it's gotta be thin, right!?), but it's a new transparent battery that we've been talking about that will take in solar light and breathe in oxygen so that it will last all the live long day!

Am I missing anything?!?!

Stop downing the thread, Vandyman. We all know that Samsung has super lawyers. Sheesh.

CK, can you please bring the shackles? Oh, and the feather tickler too!

So, I've been watching this thread and dreaming of getting my hands on the Prime. Looks like an amazing phone.

That being said, I may be in a situation where it would be better for me to "wait for the next best thing". There's a good chance that I'll be redeploying to Afghanistan at the beginning of 2012 for like a 4 month tour. If this phone comes out Nov 3 as rumored, I'll get Nov-Dec and possibly Jan to play with it before I leave. Then it would be fairly useless to me for 4-5 months. And when I get back, there are going to be bigger & Badder phones out there.

So, Logically, It would be bettter for me to wait till next year to upgrade.
Emotionally, I want it now! :D
Let's just see if I can Hold out. :)

The DAY I got out of the Army last year they released the Incredible. I was based in Germany so the Incredible was my first American phone in years. Worked out pretty good for me :D

Ok so my anxiety level just went up 100 fold. Getting 4G in my area on nov 17! I had just planned on getting the phone and waiting it out but this rules. We need some sort of clue today to keep this train headed in the right direction.

I'm hoping for a vz_wired appearance that involves some solid info.

Just read up on the Spyder/RAZR/whatever again. I forgot it's only a qHD screen. So that's out.

Prime, come on, you sexy little thing. . .come on, that's it. . .that's it. . .

Back To The Phone;

International Business Times Reports,

The phone is said to have a 4.65-inch curved glass screen with 720p resolution.

The curved glass will mean a greater degree of privacy when viewing the screen. I have not heard that one.

Some other impressive features are 1GB of RAM and the TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Probably, it would be just like the usual anticlimactic realities of this business with us hearing of a possible 1.5 GHz.

It will include 32GB of built-in storage.
It will have a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megaixel front-facing camera and can record video in 1080p HD.
The phone will also be LTE/HSPA 4G enabled and feature Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
