Software buttons are better with big screen devices because they allow the screen to appear or disappear when needed. . . . . .

Agreed. But my concern is that ICS will simply black out the space where the software buttons would be instead of the content extending to fill the entire screen, like that screen cap above.

If those buttons disappear AND that extra screen space is utilized and not blacked out, I'm good. If it's just a black bar, I'll be pissed. It turns into a 4.3" screen at that point.

Not that it means much, but considering the phone was original dubbed (and may in fact still be called?) the Nexus Prime...

11/3/2011 is the first date in November that contains all prime numbers.

Good one, also I think in that silly rhyme that guy made about the nexus prime they he stated something about the date of the death of Bruce Wayne's real father (his original creator) I forget his name... Was on the same date you list... Bob Kane's death date Nov.3rd...

I hope that is not the case. But if it is initially, the good news is that it can be changed with future updates.

So yes folks, the screen is 4.65″, but during normal use there will only be 4.3″ or 4.5″ of usable screen

the 4460 has the 540. period. you can't swap gpu's in and out. so unless TI has some secret SoC we don't know about, it's not happening with them

For those who care, the reason you can't normally mix and match arbitrary CPUs and GPUs is that they're manufactured on the same chip. With everything so tightly packed on smaller and thinner phones, the guts are prepackaged together on a System-on-a-Chip.

However, I would like for screen tech to go even beyond RGB striping... to no striping at all. I would like to see each pixel be predefined single color, not a combination of 3 rectangular RGB pixels. However, the only way to get that right now is with Quantum Dot displays which is still a few years away from mass production if ever. Quantum displays would deliver much purer color than any RGB stripe matrix. A news link for Quantum Dot displays:

Quantum-dot LED screens may soon rival OLEDs and LCDs

Wow, kewl stuff! So there would no longer be individual subpixels? If so, then no more ClearType or similar tricks, which sometimes don't work on portrait monitors.

edit: fwiw, over at HoFo, Susurro (who certainly appears to be an insider) posted this about the processing speeds/specs of the Spyder:

I have noticed on the blogs though that people get really excited about 1GHz vs 1.2GHz vs 1.5GHz or dual core vs quad core. Those people are generally clueless about what really affects a phone's performance (for example, quad core holds no advantage over a good dual core, when in fact a good dual core with a solid GPU would actually be better and internal bandwidth matters so much more). I am not saying anything about what this phone is or isn't, just commenting that a lot of people talk out of their arse.

Within a given architecture, bumping from 1.0 to 1.2 to 1.5GHz certainly will give a roughly proportional boost, unless you're already maxing out your RAM bandwidth and don't have effective enough caching.

Anyone ever think that vz_wired is being told by Verizon to give us these little tidbits as "leaks" in order to keep up the level of hype and anticipation? Just a thought...

Surely at least a few manufacturers/carriers have long had sock puppets in these and similar forums, but I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that any mods know who they are. ;)

They have been using the same schematic for the 4430..if there are no changes, why not call it a 4430 @ 1.5 gHz?

It's possible that 4430 and 4460 are the same chips binned differently, but having the same block diagram doesn't imply anything about commonality of their chip implementations (although they'd be stupid to have different pinouts).

Also, sorry I've been gone all day. I had an interview today with Chesapeake Energy.

Good luck, hope you get it!

Did you see that? I think Verizon is ready to anounce the Nexus. It took the opportunity to remind everyone who the 4G Carrier is! Someone with skills post a video please.

I've been looking at that for some time...it just wouldn't surprise me if some of these "issues" they have been having may have involved upgrades, especially now that we are months away from 28nm chips... They have been using the same schematic for the 4430..if there are no changes, why not call it a 4430 @ 1.5 gHz?

the 4460 also has a higher clocked gpu than the 4430. if there are any issues, it's apparently getting it to run at 1.5ghz, which is one of 2 reasons we'd see it run at 1.2 instead of 1.5. battery life would be the other

Have you guys noticed that although the ICS software buttons are hidden on the lock screen, that screen space is NOT used. It's just blacked out:

I hope that's not the case on web browsing and movie watching. .

had not noticed that before, what a waste. i'm sure the cm team will fix that for us

Anyhow, I can tell that you guys are pretty disappointed. That probably wasn't the idea the source had in mind.

I'm not disappointed.. I'll be ordering or preordering the Prime as soon as possible. Aside from the Incredible (which I don't own), this is the first VZW phone I've been interested in since the OG Droid (which I currently use).

I couldn't care less about the Motorola phone.

Just out of curiosity, how many posts/pages did that incredible thread get that everyone keeps talking about?

47,903 posts - 959 pages - 2,857,835 views!!!

That thread was soooo much fun - epic leaks, locked multiple times for being of topic.. reopened and allowed to be slightly off topic and so much momentum that by the end most of us had migrated the conversation to IRC.

"Boom goes the dynamite" Anonimac - LOL

I'm posting from my phone and i'm only getting 1x service at my house. And i'm telling you that its EXTREMELY hard to keep up like this. I try to post a reply and i'm 25 posts late.

Lol and chief, Droid-life is saying that the lock switch is on the side so :P my guess just became educated (kinda)

It may simply be a limitation of the background graphics. Remember ICS has to be compatible with the 4.3" phones with physical buttons too. It wouldn't make sense to make a completely different version of ICS for those phones. Most likely it's the exact same OS with a single setting that turns software buttons on or off. Things like the video player and gallery would expand to settings defined in the OS automatically.

Uh, no. That would be 11/2/2011.

Interesting how many Thanks you got for it though. :p
