***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I was talking about that the other day with a VZW rep. I was asking how he can push phones like the Bionic when he knows that there are 3 phones that will blow it away just around the corner and he actually told me that there a quite a few people that don't care what is coming they just want something right then and aren't willing to wait.

Personally, I think I would be incredibly upset. As much as I want a 4g phone (3g is horrible in my area, but 4g is great) I forced myself to wait it out a bit. I may actually wait until the Razr, Vigor and Nexus are all out before I do anything. I do hope that there are some really good BOGOs in late November for these phones.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I have a feeling the bootloader will be unlocked on the Razr. For some reason. Honestly though, I just don't want another HTC phone. They aren't flashy to me, and seem like they're all way too thick. I am in love with Samsung's screens, and I really like how cutting edge their tech is for phones and how they are always trying to be more thin. I truly believe the GNex is the phone to have for a long time on Verizon. The Razr will be a nice phone for Motorola fans though, which I am not. For some reason, Motorola makes me kinda sick to my stomach. I don't know what it is, but I don't like the metal clunky feeling of Motorola phones. Not saying they aren't nice and that a lot of people don't like them, but to me, I don't like all of the clunkyness. That's not even a word, but do you know what I mean? haha To each their own, but to me even though I don't own one (my fiance has the Epic 4G Touch and it's amazing) Samsung is the best, hands down. Their screens and form factor have about 95% to do with my feelings about that too. A great screen is pretty much #1 to me lately.

I do, but I haven't had a Moto or Sammy, so I am open to input about any advantages either might have.

I know a lot of people are thinking this phone will be better than the SGS2, in that it has ICS, doesn't have Touchwiz, and has a SAMOLED+ screen, with a snappy processor (although not Exynos). I recommend you go try out an SGS2, (say at best buy), and see what you think, but personally it is a beautiful peice of hardware. If the GNex maintains that, but with ICS and as a developer phone with direct Google support, it has the potential to be crowned the best phone ever.

That's my younger sister right there. She never listens to be and always ends up making poor decisions when it comes to choosing phones. She ends up breaking them or losing them anyway so maybe it's better that she doesn't get good stuff. Kids these days.

this guy has Batman Arkym City on reserve at Game Stop. I can't wait. Arkym Asylum was a great game.

...i'm just trying to figure out if i want to get it on the PS3 or Xbox.

Quick question: Are there any rumors about how this might do simultaneous voice/data? SVDO or VoLTE (something else?)? This is a big deal for me since I am sick of getting kicked off downloads, map data while navigating, etc. when getting calls or texts on my Incredible.

I've been following this thread for a while and can't wait to finally upgrade to something worth it. My Incredible is showing its age.

4,000,000 Fruit Fones sold in the first weekend. I kind of feel sorry for them because they just don't know any better. The Nexus will eat their lunch and you know what? They still won't know any better.

Ignorance is bliss. Or so they say.

How angry are Bionic owners right now? They waited so long through delays to FINALLY get the Bionic, and a couple months later the Droid Razr comes out and completely obliviates it! I would be SO mad!

Every phone gets obsoleted in a few months in the Android world. The flip side of that is you always get to choose a model that's only been out for a month or two... in contrast to certain manufacturers who only have annual refreshes.

It's just the way things "work" in the US. I wish it was the other way as well, but it is what it is. Given that the ETF is about the same (give or take) as the difference between the subsidized and retail price of the phone, and it goes down $10/mo, you can still break contract if you want and end up paying what you ideally would have if you had bought it retail. So, in this case, the ETF isn't the deterrent you make it out to be, if you're considering retail anyway.

What is ETF?

I believe that all the current LTE phones can do simultaneous voice and data when using 4g. I don't think this will be any different.

Motorola=Build quality, battery and phone reception but poor camera.
HTC=Sense but very poor battery life and poor phone quality.
Samsung=Camera,Screens,Speed, more Jack of all trades.

But past performance doesn't necessarily translate into current performance. For example, HTC relies on Snapdragon SoC, which are horrid on battery life, but if they switch to something else, or Qualcomm comes up with a better version, then the story will be different.

Samsung is using the OMAP 4460 in the Gnex, which, to my knowledge will be the first time they've used the OMAP, so can't directly compare it to the SGSII family.

That's nice summary of pros/cons of each. Snapdragon is not necessarily battery hog, but HTC Sense seems to be bigger culprit for HTC battery problem. New Blur and TW 4.0 in Mot and Samsung are better written I think. SGS2 with new TW 4.0 is amazingly snappy unlike older versions in original Galaxy S.

Is anyone else disappointed with the supposed plastic back? I was really hoping for metal this time. the gnex is going to be "futuristic plastic" lmao what does that even mean?

Seems like it will be plastic with a metal skeleton inside or something. Supposedly it doesn't feel flimsy. I don't care much either way. Lighter the better, but I don't want it to be bendy.

Also, the cool thing is that the curve seems to be just like the Nexus S. That's good. I don't want to have an awesome display and then have crappy viewing angles.

If you look at the threads I've spun off, you'll find that I've put my own welcoming posts at the top even though that wasn't so in the original timeline.

This is because I'm you're Vorlon mod and have control of time and such things.

And I'm truly surprised that it hasn't occurred to anyone to bribe me for the 10k spot. But, that would be bad. So, whatever you do, don't bribe me to get the 10k spot. Don't even make it a bidding war with me to get the 10k spot. Last thing we'd want is anyone bribing me for that 10k spot. Because it would be wrong to bribe me to get the 10k spot. So, whatever you do, don't try to bribe me for the 10k spot in this thread.

Omg lmao

Good question. If I had to take a guess, I would think it was a majestical new plasticular alloy discovered, researched, and implemented by a vetted, highly experienced group of marketing majors.

Guys, gotta admit, this looks nice!

I TOTALLY get your point here, and I agree, usually. However, the Bionic basically being replaced by a full touchscreen phone of the same form factor that is basically exactly what the Bionic SHOULD have been, in just a couple months, that is blasphemy. I honestly can't believe Motorola/Verizon did it. I think it's shameful. If the Bionic has a hardware keyboard and was an awesome Droid for original Droid owners, then there wouldn't be an issue. The fact that the Bionic was just released and now they're releasing the Razr, it doesn't fit the usual time curve. It's too soon and it's a slap in the face to those who paid top dollar for the Bionic, in my opinion. And I don't even own the Bionic, as well as I think that Bionic owners should have researched more and realized that there were some much better options coming. However, that doesn't excuse the blatant disregard that Motorola/Verizon had for Bionic owners, in my personal opinion. It just all seems wrong to me, and dishonest. But oh well...
