***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm in the states. Its frustrating that T-Mobile is being discarded as the carrier of choice for google. I've had every android developer phone on launch day from T-mobile up tell now (G1, N1, and NS). I could care less about the pricing, just don't artificially limit the NG to a CDMA carrier when I GSM version is already available.

I strongly believe that the next carrier after VZW to get the GNex will be T-Mobile. T-Mobile has a serious love affair with Google, they will be doing all they can to get that flagship as well.

Any news or buzz sorrounding whether or not an unlocked GSM version will be for sale. The nexus s was exculisively sold at best buy, and I'm hoping that just happens again. Its pentaband, so its not like there needs to be multiple GSM versions.

Take that for what it's worth. I don't know if I would trust it, but you are protected through PayPal if you don't receive your purchase.

Yes - once the Pixel Qi was announced for the Android Adam Notion Ink tablet, I thought sure they'd be coming to phones.

A really interesting competing transreflective display technology is Qualcomm's Mirasol. Took a while to get out of the lab, but they broke ground for a $1billion Mirasol display production facility in Hsinchu, Taiwan earlier this year after showing a teaser for it running on a smartphone.

Transreflective displays are coming to smartphones. They seem to have licked the slow-update problem.

No backlight, no emitted light, just reflected light from where you are - super low power requirements. Not everyone's cup of tea, but mega-cool nonetheless.

Does Mirasol have a backlit mode like Pixel Qi though? That is what I like about Pixel Qi. Works both ways, but not sure it looks really great in either mode.

was this posted? sorry if it was...edit: i think it was, but hey, worth repeating.

Conclusion

To wrap it up we'd say that the fears about PenTile appear hugely overblown when it comes to the new HD Super AMOLED technology, which delivers higher pixel density. The folks from Nouvoyance seem to be open about the advantages and disadvantages of their matrix arrangement, and never said flaws don't exist in certain conditions. Moreover, it seems that PenTile is here to stay, and Samsung is even prepping an RGBW LCD screen with 1600x2560 pixels resolution, resulting in 300ppi at 10.1-inch size.

In any case, if we nitpickers couldn't find anything troubling with the screen on our prototype Galaxy Note, then the average user shouldn't even care what matrix their smartphone or tablet display uses to bring them those entertaining YouTube clips of cats falling off TVs.

Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus sport HD Super AMOLED - is the PenTile matrix bad for you?

Maybe they're staying completely silent because Verizon WANTS our enthusiasm about Nexus to die down. Remember, we're marketing and hyping Nexus infinitely more than they're going to, and THEY want to sell RAZRs.

No doubt they've seen the polls that show people wanting Nexus way over RAZR, and they're deliberately creating doubt and uncertainty hoping we'll jump on the Motorola RAZR - on contract - knowing that Nexus is right behind it. Probably 15 days behind it, so RAZR folks are locked into it.

Smart plan if you want to sell one phone over another. Not good for befriending your customer... but then, it's been awhile since Big Red was concerned about that.

Am I way off on this one?

Remember the chief we are only but a small fraction of the consumer base...... Correction a very very very very small fraction. Most people are not even aware of the razr for that matter.

So there's been a lot of rumors of Theo Epstein coming from the Red Sox to the Cubs, and rumors were flying around that there would be an announcement today, but so far, there's nothing.

What the heck is happening?! Oh no, oh no!! This means that Theo ISN'T coming to the Cubs, and even though he broke the Red Sox curse, he won't get a chance to do it here, which means that 103 years without a WS championship will go another 100 years, and now our arch rivals Cardinals are probably going to win it AGAIN, and then we'll be even more of a laughingstock! Dang it! And now that I think about it, in the past whenever a new GM was rumored to come, it was always announced really really quick. . .it's never been like this!

Crap. Well, I guess the Cubs have to look for another GM because there is no freaking way this is happening now. No chance.

True dat but keep in mind that we techies have a lot of influence in what a lot of non-techies buy. I have no problem explaining the differences between RAZR and Nexus to folks in a way they can understand (no geek talk) and making sure that I do everything in my power to make sure that Nexus outsells RAZR, no matter what Verizon does with its marketing campaign :)

Well, to me Note looks second best after iPhone4 there. It's 5.3" SAMOLED HD screen, so Nexus will look sharper at 4.6" screen size.

Note looks very good to me too, especially the roundness of the e and dot over the i. Nexus will be sharper still, with a subpixel density of 447sppi compared to Note's 403sppi.

Check out the PenTile thread in this forum. We've had the CEO of Nouvoyance (the PenTile company) participating. An interesting tidbid is that the white subpixel in an RGBW quartet transmits 50% brightness, not 25% as you might guess from being only a quarter of the subpixels. Admittedly she lost me w/her last comments about chroma channels and cycles per degree, but it's great to get info straight from the source!

I don't think RAZRs are going to have a problem selling even if they were put up side by side with the Nexus. Moto is combining the #2 and #3 phone brand images into one (IMO). I actually think iPhone sales will do more damage to RAZR sales than Nexus will, as it goes for the same brand image customer, and a lot of them just re-upped for 2 years. I would guess 90%+ of their customers are in that group. That leaves (maybe) 10% that visit tech blogs, and forums, who actually know what is about to happen with Android in ICS, packaged into a decent phone. I think that may have more to do with the advertising ratio than anything else. Droid and RAZR are established, Nexus not so much except in here, and VZW recognizes that.

i'm still of the opinion that Moto/RAZR isn't even targeting Andy customers primarily (in other words, Moto isn't primarily looking to "steal" away Andy customers from other OEM's). not to say they don't "want" other Andy customers, it's just that those customers aren't the primary target. likewise, i don't think Apple customers are a primary target - they will get some, but it's just dang hard to get Apple people to convert.

rather, i see Moto's primary target being RIM customers. with the RAZR unveiling, Moto went out of its way to tout all the business functionality, and coupled that with upgraded security and encryption features. previously, my understanding has been that the lack of security features with Andy is what has shied business customers away from Andy, and kept them with RIM. i think Moto is trying to change that, and steal away RIM's market share, not necessarily Apple's or other Andy OEM's.

And thanks to samsung and google, there is one stat that almost everyone understands now. 720p. In a phone.

I do think Moto has a strong desire to get into enterprise, and they will ensure that every phone they make has this as a sub-focus, but that is not the RAZR's primary focus. They brought the RAZR name back to go after the RAZR crowd. Who is now the iPhone crowd.
