***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.
I am trying to be optimistic. As far as I can tell, Verizon started pre-orders for the Razr about a week after it showed up on their site, I am kind of hoping that will be the case for the Nexus. Does anyone know if there is any consistency with time between a "sign up for information" page and pre-order/release times? I am even seeing Verizon ads for the phone on Yahoo when I search for Galaxy Nexus. Keeping fingers crossed for some good news this week!

Did you just ask about consistency with verizon?? Bwahahahahahaha. Sorry. I swear I'm not ragging on you. It's verizon I'm busting. They have no idea what that word means. We do like playing guessing games here though.

VZW just needs to release the phone! Be it the Razr, Resound or the GNex who cares they will all sell! Those who want a Razr will buy one. Those who want a GNex will get that.

And as a matter of fact some may get more than one device. You would think they would want to have as many choices as possible to sell as much as possible.

Never mind, that makes too much sense.

Probably, but if that info matched up to anything their other sources have said, they'd have mentioned it.

And they hear lots of things. Like that it was going to be called the Nexus Prime. And that it was coming out November 3. And November 10. And November 17.

It's all BS until Verizon announces it.

I agree its all BS until VZW announces it. Even the 17th is pure speculation and its looking more and more to be incorrect.

I hope you guys do get the device soon though. So we can all compare notes on all the new devices.

But note the photo tests using zero lag on the GNex resulted in a few blurry shots. But hey, they got quick blurry shots!
That's the downside of most continuous autofocus methods. If you're not actively photographing "something" (i.e. not a dark convention hall floor) the autofocus struggles to find something, anything to focus on. All the time. Basically, the ability to take a picture can and will be faster than the ability to focus. A dSLR with decent glass struggles similarly for a good focus in dark floor situations as well.

I'm a longtime Canon Rebel XTi user who loves the fabled Custom Function 4 (aka C.Fn-04). You can read about it here: ARTHUR MORRIS ON USING AI SERVO AND C.FN-04 ( * FOCUS LOCK) - Canon Digital Photography Forums It is great for action photography and I find it useful for most all kinds of shooting to have a separate, continuous focus button.

As far as how this type of mode (Will there be a way to tame it for a more 'traditional' feel?) functions on the G-Nex, we'll have to see. Continuous autofocus IS different from the way most point-and-shoot and phone cameras operate. And I'd argue it is FAR superior (once you understand it). Hopefully it'll be easy enough to use without a steep learning curve for the average person, but personally I'm not too worried. This functionality means WAY more to me than a couple megapixels.

really, would anyone be surprised at a Black Friday release?! i wouldn't be surprised at all...

Shut your mouth. I would hate to have to seek out a Verizon store on the way to DFW before I come home that morning.

Hi all

Thought I would stick my head in and say hi to all the future SGN owners in the thread. I was thinking I would have to wait until April to join all of you but after a call to Verizon they moved up my upgrade date to today, yea for me as my daughter would say.

I am 90 percent sure that I am going with the SGN, for the following reasons that are most important for me in a phone.

1) Large screen at a high resolution, from all the previews I have seen the SGN screen looks amazing. (spend so much time on the web, that for me the larger the screen the better, would seriously consider the note if it came to Verizon, esp if it had #2 on my list)

2) ICS, love the new OS for android, and love the fact that updates come directly from google.

3) Really like the look of the phone, although like any phone need to have it in hand to decide if it is perfect.

4) Love playing with custom ROM's, and no better phone for that then a nexus. Although with ICS I have a feeling ironically that I will not do this as much as I would have in the past. Nice to have the option thou.

Things that I am worried about

1) Gorilla Glass. I know some are going to yell marketing marketing marketing. I currently have the Droid X and have treated it with no tender loving care, it has been naked since the day I purchased it. Not one single scratch on the screen. Dropped, stuffed in pockets with keys, I am sold on this glass. Hate screen protectors, so that is not an option. So I am thinking about waiting a week and see what you all say about scratches on the screen. I am in the minority probably on not caring what the case looks like, but I need a pristine scratch free screen to do my movies/web surfing/pod casts etc on.

2) This is one I have not seen mentioned on here, well maybe but its easy to miss on a thread this size. Being ICS, how long does it take for existing apps to make sure they run smooth on this version. Maybe an old nexus owner can relay their experiences about being first on a new Google OS.

Oh and huskerkate, good to see a fellow husker on this site.

I just can't see a Thanksgiving/Black Friday release unless Verizon is simply wanting to sabotage sales of the Nexus. If they release it that day and it doesn't sell well (everyone will be half broke after that weekend), they can say "See? It doesn't sell as well as our bloated phones do. No more!"

All we can do is SELL OUT the pre-orders and overwhelm them with demand for this phone. And for those of you going to the store: please set aside some cash for this device so we can prove Verizon wrong.

My DX has a scratch on the screen. Even GG will scratch. And as mentioned in tons of threads, GG is just a trademark. Are you eating Jell-o brand gelatine, or something else that is basically the same.

The GNex is using another fortified glass. My guess is it will be simiar as GG.

i'm sure you would be able to barter your wares in exchange for a GNex somewhere... ;) besides, DFW airport has everything else - i'm sure there's a VZW store in there somewheres....

Oh and huskerkate, good to see a fellow husker on this site.

we're thick in here! not as thick as the New Jerseynites, but still pretty good numbers... Rose Bowl or bust, baby - Go Big Red!

GG is highly resistant, but not impregnable (no innuendos please). It has a hardness (no innuendoes please) of around 7 on the scale. Steel (keys) won't scratch it, but quartz in sand definitely will. Depends on what you got rolling around in your pocket (no innuendos please).

I hope they use the new Lotus glass. It's supposed to be higher in heat resistance and is made for HD displays. I just don't know if it's in production yet or not. Also, Dragontrail glass will be coming out soon.

Dude really, ok I understand and agree in theory that the 17th is speculation...I will give you that because Verizon has not said when it would officially be released....just like they have never officially said when you would be getting the Razor except a general "shipped no later than Nov. 10th" and that is in fact not an official release date now is it?

But the part I have problems with is you coming in and throwing words around like and its looking more and more to be incorrect :eek::eek::eek::eek:

That either makes you look like you know something we don't and you won't share how you know this...because we will call you on it, or your just trying to stir the pot...in that case we will call you on it, so what's it going to be?

As my DX nears its warranty life, I decided it'd be a good idea to fix a blotch of dead pixels on the screen. Went from CM7 to stock Froyo to GB.

When going from 2.2 to 2.3, all the memories of the "GB leaks" and rooting/ROMing excitement came back, and it made me realize something...

The Nexus hardware is definitely adequate for anything I need to do. The 1.2 gHz dual-core processor is spec'd higher than almost half of the computers I've used in my life (and I'm only 20...). The GPU will be solid enough to run my favorite mobile games...especially since most of what I play is on a gameboy emulator. Even for these new 3D/next-gen games, the SGX540 should definitely be enough.

What everyone should be excited for (especially us VZW sheep) is the software. Going from Froyo to GB, I was (re)amazed at how much smoother and more responsive the homescreen became.

The weird thing is, I didn't remember this difference from the leaked 2.3 GB ROMs that p3droid fed us. From memory, it seems as if the Moto updates from the leaked version to the current one (.605 or whatever) offered with it a significant jump in responsiveness.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, an incremental iteration of an ICS update will probably make your phone perform better than another 300 mHz of processing power or a better GPU will. Probably. The raw power of the components should be enough to guarantee smooth gaming and fast multitasking, but the real beauty will be how well the software utilizes the hardware. And seeing as Google itself has promised optimization, I'm absolutely stoked.

Oh, and LTE. We've had a power outage and it's made our wifi painfully slow. I can hardly imagine the power in having ethernet-cable speeds at the palm of hands. :D

EDIT: And also, since we're all talking about release dates...didn't the RAZR originally have a Verizon Map date of 11/03? Then a newer one came out and said Oct 27th, which ended up being the preorder date...

If the Map says 11/10, I guess it is a possibility that it's a preorder/announcement date. If the RAZR is any indication, it'll be guaranteed within 2 weeks, or the 24th.

All speculation, but I guess I'd be able to hold out until then...

If it performs along the lines of GG, that will be good enough for me.

i sorta agree, and still think VZW views the GNex as the red-headed step child. but, it has to be aware of the demand for the device (at least from the dev'r and enthusiast groups), and is also aware that Google and Sammy will mkt the device. as long as they can use that to get people in VZW stores, they can then push people to the RAZR and Re-*gag*... i bet vzw will have some Black Friday deals for its "preferred" phones going on then.

So I wonder what really is the "you'll be very happy" line the VZW source was feeding us months ago?

LOL...Two TOTALLY different demographic groups, there, husker. But I would have a lot of fun writing that ad for Craigs List. :D I'm most likely going to pre-order (if there is one) anyway. If not, I very well may be seeking out a VZW store at DFW. ;)

Already been confirmed Corning that it does not have Lotus Glass either. It was mentioned in the Gorilla Glass thread.

Just a thought: I know that we are all a little on edge because of no news and because of the seemingly interminable wait. But remember, all those people who got the Bionic had to wait 8 long months and several delays, and they finally got it and are happy as clams! Do you think they care that they had to wait so long?!

Oh. . .wait a second. . .
