Until you get to the right quartz sand.

Hardened glass is still glass - it still breaks, it still scratches, just not so easily.

Can't wait for the flame wars that will begin when the first Nexican finds this out and no one believes them.

This is such a standard feature anymore.

Just about to say the same thing. The only time I've scratched by phone was on velcro (or something of that nature) so keys don't worry me as much as fine gritted things. I never know what winds up in my purse! :p

Hi, all. I'm new here (though I've been reading this thread for a few days). While we're all waiting, I thought I'd share an observation from the new GoogleNexus videos on YouTube. I'd post a link, but as a new user I'm not allowed. :)

Some of the videos have really high-res close-ups of the screen. For example, check out the "Make Yourself At Home" video at 15 seconds in. If you take a look, make sure to switch to 1080p and full-screen. I was at first a little dismayed when I saw it, as the PenTile checkerboard pattern is really quite prevalent. However, give this a try -- hold up your current phone at its normal distance from your face, close one eye and back off from your monitor until the width of the Nexus' screen matches that of your own phone in your perspective.

When I viewed the on-screen Nexus at realistic proportions, the PenTile artifacting was visible only if I was really looking for it. This was a relief, as I'd been worried that the Nexus would look like the Droid RAZR screen I saw on my visit to the Verizon store last night. I couldn't stand it!

Speaking of that visit -- a funny anecdote: when I asked the VZW employee about the Nexus release date, she said "I can look that up for you" and, after some typing and clicking at her computer, began quoting to me from blog posts on the subject! "Hmm, says here that a leaked Verizon road map says the 21st." Should a Verizon agent really be telling me about leaked Verizon roadmaps?! ;)

Just stopped in my local verizon branch. The rep that I talked to this morning was fairly cool, he told me that they've heard that the nexus is coming before black friday, definitely. That sounds like it winds up pretty good with what we've been hearing on here the past few days.

If only I had 1 of those hurry up machines from that show that used to be on nickelodeon with dave coulier!

Why? Transitioning the phone from a normal hold to your pants pocket seems to be easiest with the jack on the bottom. Just my observation.

Without a doubt, one of the features I'm most excited about. Call me weird but its true. Ice been clamoring for the headphone jack on the bottom for over two years. It really does make the most sense. What you said plus this-- when holding the phone and using the headphones, with jack on top the cable is draping anywhere and you have to sometimes move it out of the way. Jack on bottom, cable never interferes with the phone operation.

Welcome!!!

can i go in, ask for the box and them not to open it..pay and leave?

they generally insist that it must be activated, unless you pay full retail

but there is no good reason why they shouldn't be able to... you can buy it at subsidized price online and activate it yourself... so whats the diff..

This intriuqes me the most! I'm aware of other location aware apps, but don't they require gps, and thus joules to operate? This seems like a very nice low power solution!

Do you have any links about guidelines, howtos, etc? TIA!

It was posted in this thread a couple of days ago, not that that helps much, needle in a haystack etc.

Perhaps the original poster can help out. I'll try my browser history.

EDIT: http://www.tagstand.com/

There's a guide somewhere mentioning the app to use to "program" your phone to behave in a certain way, should have bookmarked it.

so, has there been any leaks about the manufacturer of the glass? Or confirmation of an oleophobic coating?

Welcome to AF! And about the VZW employee, I would be glad that they are looking at blogs and forums. That means they are one of the good ones ;)

+1 to Audiogalaxy, been using it for over a year now. Use your own PC as your cloud server instead of relying on other services.

Thanks for all the help guys!! I'm going try both Google music and Audiogalaxy, but will probably stick with Audiogalaxy if "when";) I trade my RAZR in for the GNEX

Haven't seen anything. I don't know if we will ever hear about who made the glass, but the coating should be confirmed/disproved soon by the folks across the pond.

So they started to get the posters at some of the stores today. I know we have people that work for Verizon, Best Buy and Walmart on here can any of you look up the inventory page again and see if you have Galaxy Nexus on route to you?

Welcome to the forums! :)

Personally, I place little stock in web videos of any resolution when judging a phone display.

If you don't have a digital camera locking pixels 1-to-1 when making the vid, and if you don't have lossless compression (yeah, an oxymoron for digital imaging of any kind) and if you don't have 1-to-1 mapping of the playback to your monitor, you're going to see moire patterns and worse.

Like you, I was somewhat disappointed at the RAZR display and am looking forward to seeing how well the Nexus fares. :)
