No new information, just an amusing moment from my visit to the Verizon store this afternoon. The reps were all busy, and I wasn't going to interrupt anybody just to play dumb. So I contented myself with checking out the RAZR and the Rezound.
The RAZR is definitely too wide for my tastes; but the Rezound seemed quite nice. In fact, I was really impressed at how incredibly light it was -- lighter than any other smartphone I've ever picked up! And then I found that it wouldn't power on. Looks like they took the battery out for some reason. Hmm ... maybe to show off that it *has* a removable battery?
As for the back-and-forth on the dates, here's an anecdote from my days following rumors about the Fascinate release date. Back in August of 2010 or thereabouts, there were strong rumors that the Fascinate would be released in September. Then suddenly there was a leak of a Verizon "roadmap" document that showed the Fascinate scheduled for late October. It came complete with a screen shot and looked very credible, and supposedly came from a credible source.
But the Fascinate launched on September 9, earlier than anybody was predicting. The moral? No single leak can be trusted. Even if it's a legitimate internal Verizon document, that doesn't mean it's true. It could be out of date; it could be a proposed alternative schedule that won't be used; we have no way of knowing.
At the moment I'm not inclined to bet on any of the dates we've heard, because there's just too much uncertainty. But in general I'm more inclined to trust rumors that come from multiple sources and tend to corroborate one another. A single leaked screen shot doesn't mean much unless we start hearing the same thing from other directions.
