The radio issue might help me hold out for the gnex. AOSP support is paramount.

Agreed.

Well HanSolo,

So much for the methadone effect of the dinc2 eh? You have not slowed down any.

I see Verizon has a free Dinc2 promo. I think in that case they should let you keep it.

Agreed with this as well. I may call them up and ask nicely. My wife and I will be traveling to Central America late next year and it would be nice having a world phone.

We broke the record.... now what?

After googling a bit, I can only get bits and pieces, but yeah, it looks like the SVDO might be a problem if you want to run AOSP roms. Not sure if this is still an issue with the newest HTC.

Hmm.

If you're 100% sure you just want the AOSP rom, the pure one comes on the Nexus.

If you're not sure on that being the number one thing for you, the Rezound is a worthy phone in its own right.

I say this out of friendship - if trying to decide your future with Nexus is wearing you down, do yourself a favor and don't start worrying about what rom will have what capability in the future (and not developed yet) on another phone.

If you went with a derivative of the AOSP rom on other phones ask yourself why.

For most people, it was salvation from crappy performance issues with the stock rom. The Rezound doesn't have that problem.

If it's because of speed of updates, the Rezound doesn't have the Google phone advantage.

If you can wait for ICS, HTC has committed to have it on the Rezound by early 2012. If you can't wait for ICS, Verizon has committed to having the Nexus by the end of the year.

Those are the facts in the matter, counselor. ;)

PS - A big mega thanks on clearing up that issue on how contract law terminology definitions MAY apply to false or mistaken advertising. Kept meaning to write to thank you since you wrote that up for us! :) :)

Thanks Early. Very good points. I would like AOSP on the HTC device (if I end up with it) because I don't like Sense and I love what I've seen of ICS.

I'm pretty sure that the HTC ICS update will still be "sensed" up the wazoo.

And you're welcome for the legal non-advice, lol.

Hate to be that guy, but link? I went back through the thread and couldn't find the post :(

Although, I had assumed it wasn't "binding" I'd be curious to read a informed answer.

No according to the actual owners in the Rezound forum. Not at all.

And I'm especially unhappy with the suggestion in their forum to go to non-HTC forums so happy owners with phones that are working fine can learn that they're wrong and their radios aren't working fine.

Please don't let the experience of a few lemons decide how an entire model performs.

Please pass on information that's solid, not rumors.

The Rezound is not the Thunderbolt.

I've had the Rezound now for about a week and I'm tempted to say it's got the best radio I've yet seen...at least for LTE. My previous LTE phones, the Charge (don't ask), the Bionic (no problems) and now the Rezound.

I'd have to say I like the Rezound the best thus far. Not a single issue, smooth as silk with the stock launcher and 4G>3G handoff has been about the best I've seen yet.

I'll also say that battery life has been the best I've seen (with the stock battery). I'm getting battery life that's not far off from what I've been getting with the Bionic with the heavy duty battery. Not quite as good, but in the ballpark.

The Rezound is not the Thunderbolt.

Sorry if I didn't make this clear, I realized my last statement was separated from the paragraph it should be attached to.

Radio problems should have been attached to the Thunderbolt not the Rezound. I haven't researched the Rezound because I have no intention of buying the Rezound other than to see a few articles on XDA about the radio comparison.

r2doesInc confirmed that the Rezound and Thunderbolt share the exact same radio code, which afaik has always been the sticking point for AOSP ROMS on the Thunderbolt.

I didn't intend to disparage the Rezound in anyway other than to indicate that it might not receive good ROM support due to sharing radio code with the Thunderbolt. (I did take a friendly shot at sense, which I'm not a fan of, but again if you don't hate it, go for it)

My judgement that the Rezound is "probably a fine phone" was based off the specs, and an assumption that in general HTC is an OK company. I don't think I would have a problem with owning the Rezound other than disliking having another Sense phone.

So I feel like my information was solid at least with how it relates to the Thunderbolt and how one of the best Thunderbolt developers related it to the Rezound.

Edit: Also edit'ed my previous post to make it more clear that Radio problems are attached to Thunderbolt AOSP roms.

Hi all first post here! I have been lurking and patiently waiting for the release of the nexus. I currently have an upgrade available on my line. I use a DroidX and so does my wife. Her DroidX is on it's last legs and is ready to go. I am a big fan of Ubuntu/Linux over windows based systems. My problem is her phone is pretty much dead, and I have been debating on whether or not to just get the Iphone 4S and give her my DX. I am not a big fan of apple devices but, I am a big gamer on my phone. I am very worried about the GPU benchmarks for the Nexus as the scores were rather low. I enjoy games like Order & Chaos online and etc. I will more than likely have the Nexus (or Iphone 4S)for the next 2 years and I hope to be able to play the latest games from the marketplace without any LAG whatsoever. Please help me in my decision making, from all the post I have read, it seems that very bright and knowledgeable people post here. Thank you

\O/ My order from Expansys just shipped! It should be here Monday. I'll still be following this roller coaster, but I'm no longer riding it.

Welcome, thanks for posting! I know the iPhone has better scores, but there is not anything I know of out there that won't be able to be run by the Nexus.

For gaming, I think you're still better off going with the 4S. That's probably where the iphone has android beat with the selection, quality, and smoothness of games.

At this point, I don't think there's as good a selection on Android as there is on iphone of quality games. Not saying Android is bad, just iphone is better for now.

I couldn't find it. But If I remember correctly, because the radio uses "sdvo" (I think) it allows you to talk and use data at the same time on 3G. It supposedly causes issues when trying to run custom ROMS. Especially ASOP (Like CM7 and soon to be CM9)

Having had a Thunderbolt with S-Off and successfully running CM7 (and as a wanna-be dev), perhaps I can shed some light on the problems with the Thunderbolt radio and AOSP...

Although it took them awhile, HTC did indeed release their source for both the operating system and the kernel for the Thunderbolt. However, since the radios (there are actually two - 1 CDMA for voice, and 1 LTE for 3G/4G) are proprietary and not open source, HTC was never obligated to release the source for the radio software. The only way to get AOSP working with the new LTE radio (read: first commercially available LTE radio) was to reverse engineer the compiled radio code from several HTC fastboot files.

Basically, @slayher (Tony Layher - the CM7 maintainer for the Thunderbolt and several other devices), had to rewrite the radio code from scratch in order to get it working with AOSP. When the attempt was made to merge the HTC radio code with the CM7 trunk, it succeeded in breaking other devices so the merge was immediately reversed. Consequently CM7 development for the Thunderbolt has continued to progress in parallel with the trunk.

All of the above being said, it is very likely that the same AOSP issues will exist with the Rezound unless someone finally gets hold of the radio source.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it... ;)

A friend of mine who's immune system is effected by interferon treatments has to be careful in avoiding the flu and such.

We were talking phones and he informed me he had found cleaning the display of a touch screen phone with an alcohol swipe will wake up the responsiveness of a device.
He says it does not have to be so dirty you can see the human residue to make the difference.

Makes sense for him because of all the humans that handle and leave germs on the phones.

After that when my OG buttons and screen would seem to delay or fail on the first swipe or tap I tried it and its amazing.

So you guys testing store phones be fair and make an effort to have a clean display eh?

Thanks for stating what I was trying to point out in a more clear manner.

For now being the key word, Android has been steadily catching up. I really haven't noticed a key game on iOS that I really miss having on Android, although I am not a big phone gamer.
