You are missing the sales/marketing piece all together...think of it like any other product...there is competition out there. just like the xbox or PS3...if a company waits one more day that is ome more day someone else buys the competitions product. not everyone waits just because. we make up the minority who will wait and even some people in thei forum have switched to ATT already so if the die hards are switching then who wouldnt. The people that Verizon wants are people coming into their stores that currently have another carrier and they cant sway them to the Nexus if it is not on the shelves. EVERY CARRIER HAS ANDROID...Not every carrier has ICS yet...when you can market the latest and greatest it is a competitive advantage that no one else has. Holding the phone is only costing them sales...no other way to look at it.

Especially if they go past december 4th. Anyone who might have switched from AT&T is gonna see the Nitro and stay put.

I beg to differ, look at sales in the US by mobile OS type. Android leads the way buddy.

I know Android outsells Apple, but the Nexus line isn't looked at by the general consumer as "this years hottest Android phone" by anyone but "enthusiasts". Keep in mind Verizon passed on the Nexus One because they had the Incredible, so if anything Google/Android is trying to work with them this time around to get all 4 carriers to carry the Nexus line. Once they have all four on board I can see a more unified launch of the phone, possibly as early as the 2012 Nexus.

EDIT: Also keep in mind Apple had to play hardball with Cingular/at&t at first to even get their phone on a network, but now that they have their market they can throw their weight around more.

I completely disagree. Very few people are going to switch carriers because of a perceived delay in the release of a device or because a better device is available on another carrier. I am as gadget and tech crazy as anyone I know and, to be honest, I would rather have the Galaxy Note instead of the Galaxy Nexus, but I'm not going to switch to a GSM carrier just so I can use the Note. Nope, like the rest of you, I'll wait for the Galaxy Nexus and purchase it as soon as it's available.

And, in general, if having the latest and greatest was the most important aspect of being on a wireless carrier, wouldn't all of us leave Verizon for another carrier? Because we all know that Verizon is almost always behind in releasing the best available devices.

Well, I've been lurking a while and I have to say that if I was Verizon, I think I may be handling the launch the exact same way. Look: Verizon has a built-in buyer-base for the phone. Everyone who is passing the Razr and Rezound specifically for the Galaxy Nexus, the people tweeting to Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus, the people calling Verizon about the Galaxy Nexus are all waiting to buy the Galaxy Nexus. If Verizon released it today, they would buy it. If Verizon releases it the week before Christmas, they will buy it. If they release it the week after Christmas, they will buy it. Why release it today and potentially cannibalize sales on other phones that people may buy as Christmas gifts for relatives? Don't give them another option and, after the holiday shopping season ends, release the Nexus and have your built-in buyer-base flock to them. It seems like smart business to me. Whether or not there is an actual issue regarding the software on the phone, this seems like the ideal way to string along your buyer-base while making sales on other products.

As for me, I think that Verizon won't release the Galaxy Nexus until the week of the 19th, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see it the week of the 26th.

Much of what you wrote is true...which baffles me. I can't relate to people just dying to buy a phone with no sim card. It's like buying a Toyota car that can only use Toyota gas stations. You can never truly own it. A lot of these guys must live in remote places where GSM carriers aren't reaching yet.

I assumed part of your complaint was comparing how Verizon (cellular service provider) and Apple release phones, my bad. Frankly the GSM release of the phone is well on the way and probably a bigger chunk of the pie than us.

I will say it seems like a lot of assumed entitlement. It will get here when it gets here but don't bust a blood vessel because I'm sure Verizon isn't losing sleep.

I wouldn't use Motorola as an example, look at the Bionic.

Oh, it's not a feeling of entitlement on my end. Believe me. It's just bad business.

With the Bionic...I don't know all the details, but that looked like a botched launch as well. It would appear that Moto gave VZW the phone and they didn't like it or it failed testing. By the time Moto fixed it, it was outdated so they went back to the drawing board and redesigned it. By the time they redesigned and launched it finally, it was on the verge of being outdated again.

"Perfect" you say.

I'd humbly disagree with that sentiment. iPhone 4S launch didn't happen during Apple's typical refresh cycles. It was delayed, much to the chagrin of many, with absolutely no word whatsoever from Apple regarding the delay. By all measures, the iP4S was months late.

And Apple doesn't pre announce a single thing. Not an official peep about a new product, until the product is actually released on stage. How many Apple launches have your heard about new products, then the announcement comes and goes and that product never materializes?

That's the thing. Apple NEVER released anything until they were ready. Yet here we have Google announcing a new phone and here we are darn near 2 months later with NOTHING. That's what I'm referring to. Apple would never do that. They get it right and announce it. Everything else about when to expect a phone, what to expect, etc... is pure speculation. What we have with the Nexus is NOT speculation. This phone was announced and layed out in detail. Verizon released a statement saying that yes indeed they would carry it. The UK gets the phone 2-3 weeks ago and we still have no word of a release date.

Again, you missed the point completely. I am not talking about people like us. I am talking about people walking into the store to compare phones, services that currently have lets say ATT. if the phone you already have is better than anything Verizon has on the shelf would you switch, probably not. So there is a sale missed. Some people will still switch but if some dont because the phones are not better, than those are missed sales...period. People in this forum have already switched so just beacuse you wouldnt does not speak for everyone.
Having the latest and greatest available to sell is a big competitive advantage as a seller..anytime you can market something that noone else can it is a good thing...period. seriously business is not that hard to understand.
If company A has widgets 1 and 2 to choose from and company B has only widget 1..who has the advantage and who will have more sales....

I'm finally caught up on the pages. I feel bad for those of you who stayed up passed their bedtime for a shot at a 12:01 preorder.

I did set my alarm a little early this morning just in case I could do an order before my day started. Went to the OP here and immediately to VZW, but of course, no luck. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a 10am announcement.

BTW, love the Princess Leia avatar theme you have going BB.

Analysts: We expect apple to release the iPhone 4S and iPhone5. Nope, maybe next announcement. We expect an upgraded tablet. Nope, maybe next announcement. We expect a new powermac with i7 processor. Nope, maybe next announcement. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

No, Apple is far from perfect. They surround themselves in a veil of secrecy which people are used to, and accept as status quo. If they don't announce something, then it just gets relegated to the "well maybe next announcement".

Sounds an aweful lot like Verizon, yet they get trashed and Apple gets a pass.

Why do I think this will also get a thank from Early if/when he sees it?

I agree completely with this post. The stories I hear about the lengths apple goes to in order to prevent leaks, and even recover leaked info and products is extreme. (see apple employees entering private citizens home and taking leaked products story). They get a pass because they are the media darling.

A number of Bionics still barely work.. Promised an OTA in early November.. No ETA..

Can't delay what wasn't even announced, and personally I like not having leaks, because then when the thing is introduced, it's usually the same day it's announced, and then you can buy it in a couple of weeks. I consider a perfect release one that goes: Here is our product, you can buy it on X date, and then that date occurs and you can buy the product. Amazon seems to be able to do it with the Kindle, and Apple does it with their products, but the Galaxy Nexus was announced over a month ago, and we still don't know a release date on Verizon.

Thank you! I have at least one more in reserves. And there is a chance that by the end of this weekend I will have seen at least one of the movies.

That is pretty much what happened with the Bionic. It was basically an updated Atrix, but I believe the big problem was LTE. It didn't work right.

So Moto gave up on making a 3rd party LTE radio work and designed thier own, and that took a while. In the mean time, they had a new device being designed code named Targa. They put the new designed LTE chip into the Targa, scrapped the old Bionic design and called the new phone the Bionic.

Many people were scrambling for a 4G, dual core device, which was why the Bionic was heavily hyped in forums. That was a major clusterbomb.

However............that is also just a reminder why companies stay so tight lipped on future products. I know my perception will be in the minority, but as far as I'm concerned, Verizon hasn't botched the launch, because they haven't missed a launch date, because they haven't given us one. Dec 31st and I'll pick up a pitchfork with the rest of you and storm the castle, until then, no worries.

I think we would all be much calmer about it if it was EVERYONE waiting. But the rest of the world knows when they can have this but we are still waiting. That kinda points to Verizon being the hold up.
Notice I said hold up. They didn't botch it yet. December 31st comes with no phone and, like Nj02vette said, then they botched it.

Exactly my point Durango....

People speculate when and what Apple will release, and maybe there is some validity based on priory release schedules, but nobody ever knows. Yes, the 4S was "delayed" from the typical announcement timeframe Apple goes, by, but guess what, they didn't announce anything till they were ready. Apple says "ready, set, go!" and they release it. This Nexus release has been more like Google saying "ready, set, go! wait...wait.. we weren't ready!" Weren't you the one saying ready set go in the first place???

Again, I disagree. My own personal opinion is that very few people switch carriers just to have the best device currently available. I can only base this on anecdotal evidence, but I really doubt that any single Android device would drive carrier churn as the iPhone may have.

I have five smart phones on my family share plan and four of the five users could care less which device they use as long as it does what they want them to. In fact, I work at a company full of engineers and not one of them has mentioned the Galaxy Nexus or Ice Cream Sandwich. I specifically told a co-worker who was out of contract on AT&T to wait for the Galaxy Nexus and switch to Verizon, but he said he didn't want the hassle of switching at picked up the Galaxy S2. For most people, a device is not a compelling reason to switch carriers. Of course, as I said, this is anecdotal, but my feeling is that the numbers would prove it out. The only people who would be willing to switch carriers to get the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon are probably all posting in this thread.

Well this is because Google does not have the clout (yet) to tell Verizon how things are going to be. Apple did, because Verizon was getting killed by iPhone sign-ups to AT&T. When Google announced it they felt it was ready. Verizon didn't feel the same.

What many of you are missing in my point in comparing this launch to an iPhone launch and saying that Apple gets it right is this:

Google announced this phone in mid-October....OFFICIALLY mind you....showed off all it's new features, and touted it as the best thing out there. Yet here we are 2 months later and don't even have any word of a release date. THAT is my complaint. You don't announce a phone that isn't ready for immediate release, period.
