***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

A number of Bionics still barely work.. Promised an OTA in early November.. No ETA..

That is one bullet I dodged by by not doing a pre-order or rushing to the store on release day.
I lurked and seen it coming.

Then the SGII never came but I will pre-order and beta this device.

So here I sit under my bridge all crass and full of condescension numb to it all but still hanging in there keeping up with the thread.

Can a phone manufacturer create a phone that works specifically on Verizon's network without Verizon having any say in it? Or do all phones need to be approved by Verizon before they're permitted on their network?

This is why I think people shoule not direct their anger at this site, at people who provides "tips", or even at Verizon. The only party they should be mad at is Google. Apple can work with all 3 US providers to get the iPhone ready for all 3 networks, and release the phone less than 10 days after press conference. Yet Google failed to release the Nexus in US 2 months after announcement.

I think we're going to have it within 2 months of announcement. This is week 6

Unfortunately it did not affect every phone and my first one didn't do it, had to get a replacement and low and behold this one is garbage..

Isn't this also the kind of thing that Google and Verizon should have worked out as part of the negotiations to even have the phone on Verizon in the first place? This doesn't seem like the kind of thing where one or both parties could be caught by surprise.

I imagine Verizon gave Google a tentative timeline on their approval process, and Google timed the international release for that. (i am going to guess the original release of the 10th per the MAP charts). Then it got delayed a week, for marketing, to let RAZR and Rezound go first. Then the technical issue popped up. I think at that point Google wasn't willing to hold the GSM version anymore, so it launched the 17th. Just an opinion mind you.

It seems to me - just thinking about it - that several States Attorneys General may be interested in knowing that a phone company is trying to manipulate ad control how its customers spend their own money on non-phone-related things. I mean: who is Verizon to tell me that I can't use Google Wallet, that I HAVE to use Isis? They could be opening up a legal can of worms here... and THAT may be the reason for the delay: running Nexus through the VZW Legal Department.

I feel like there needs to be a campaign to the FCC as well here. How is this any different then using Amazon's app to buy things. What I hook my credit card up to is no business of Verizon and Google Wallet does not violate their terms of service (unlike tethering apps).

An important point to note is that Verizon won't be able to disable the NFC ability as a whole on the phone. With Android Beam being a premiere feature on the device, the cat is out of the bag as far as the capability of utilizing this tech at least in some sense. I agree that they could be trying to screw with the payment options when it comes to the Nexus, but there is a lot more to NFC than just payment methods. Also, how are they going to dictate all payment methods when that is such a loose term? Lets say for a second that they are trying to block Google wallet for Isis. Would this apply to the mass transit systems that utilize NFC with a unique protocol for just payment in their system? Verizon will never succeed with something like this. I won't deny they might try, but eventually they will get the book thrown at them by a lawsuit or the government and it will hurt.

Sitting here with the tv on the Kathy and Hoda show on hoping they'll have breaking news about a Nexus release. Sadly, I don't think it's going to happen :(

So, no preorders for today it looks like. Unless they do it later today which might happen but I kinda doubt it.

Guess we're on a cold trail now? No leads, rumors, nothing?

Just a hopeful Dec 8 date..

When we decided Dec. 8th was the most likely candidate, I thought for sure that would be the one. Back then it was a little over 3 weeks until the 8th--surely they would get things ironed out by then.

Now here we are, almost 1 week away and still no tangible evidence of a launch on the 8th. If we get a preorder, it can't launch on the 8th. If we don't get a preorder and instead get a launch on the 8th, then we should start to see some good information reinforcing that. At this point, I'm really starting to doubt we'll make the 8th. I never thought I would say that.

Phones need to be approved for the same reason they don't like us rooting. They want to have a level of control on how you access their network.

Also if some company could make "cheap" Verizon phones that would discourage people from signing into contracts..

Woke up a 5am to go to the gym but checked Verizon's web page for preorders first. So numb from the disappointment that it didn't even phase me. Will I get up early or stay up early on the next preorder rumor? yes. Will I still spend 80% of the work day on this forum? Yes

Can't delay what wasn't even announced, and personally I like not having leaks, because then when the thing is introduced, it's usually the same day it's announced, and then you can buy it in a couple of weeks. I consider a perfect release one that goes: Here is our product, you can buy it on X date, and then that date occurs and you can buy the product. Amazon seems to be able to do it with the Kindle, and Apple does it with their products, but the Galaxy Nexus was announced over a month ago, and we still don't know a release date on Verizon.

And to each thier own. While frustrating, I like the leaks as it helps my decsision making process. I'm not going to wait until the release of a product, only to find out I'm dissappointed in the specs.

That sort of business model works for Apple, since a large portion of thier consumer base will buy whatever they release.

If you so desired, you could go create a phone specifically for Verizon's network and use it. Nobody is going to mass produce a phone for Verizon's network without their approval though because Verizon won't sell it if they don't approve it.

I'm curious how many people would opt for the Galaxy Note instead of the Nexus if it were being released on the same day and also had ICS. I know I would go for the Note myself. 5.3" is huge but I think I'd get used to it quick like I did the 4.3" screen on my Droid X which look HUGE when I bought it.

I think it's funny we assume so much about how these companies work and say what they can and cannot do but in all this wealth of knowledge of this branch of the tech community, no one has any idea why they are waiting.

Take a chill pill and relax..

This is great! really! We're all backseat drivers. And we all propose to know something with our given opinion and most freely express it right here. That includes you and me! Hard to relax though this stuff is super exciting :)

Great post pcriz

I'm still hoping for the 8th. Someone make sure to slap me when I go from optimistic to delusional in the next couple days.

What if someone like Google decided to come out with a phone that "works" on Verizon's network and to sell it themselves for $500 a phone? You then need to have a voice/data plan from Verizon however if something happens with the phone you talk to Google (the manufacturer) about it.... I know it won't happen, at least not for a long time, but imho it's wishful thinking (and doesn't Apple kind of already do this?). :)
