***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Curious to all the folks out there:
With a handful of the reviews coming back with some unfavorable aspects of the device, are we all going to buy it outright, or check on the device in stores and compare them to the Razr/Rezound (or it you're on another carrier, their other phones)? Does this make us borderline iSheep by buying a phone without considering other options? Personally, I think all issues can/should be ironed out with OTAs and dev. support. And, honestly, if this thing runs as fast as my Bionic, I'll be plenty happy for another couple years.

A lot of the unfavorable "aspects" that I've seen people mention seem to be related to the new UI and ICS. Things change you have to adjust to them. Its a new version, with new menus, new interface, etc. I think that a lot of these opinions will change as they get more used to the new Android interface.

Phonedog seems to be in the vast minority on his "its laggy" report as compared to all the other major reviewers so I am not sure what to make of this.

If I order the phone and I don't like it, I won't hesitate to return in, but I feel like its going to be the best phone for me at the moment.

IMEIs are almost like the serial number of Net modem to your Cable company.. Sure go buy a new Motorola Surf board and you still have to call in to allow traffic to pass to it.

Same thing for phones, that's why an IMEI from a Sprint CDMA phone won't work on Verizon, they are given out to each unique device and manufacturers are given a cluster of them to attach to their radios.

I'm not going to get into my technical background, but I know how the process works. You could design and build a phone and use it on the Verizon network. I'm not saying any old joe could do it, but if you know what you're doing, yes, you can very easily.

I guess the other part of it is, while plenty of OEMs have promised to upgrade their devices to ICS, when will it happen? Jan, Feb, June? This is really the biggest appeal for me; that and incredible dev. support. Also, I haven't seen any leaks of any devices launching with ICS (correct me if I'm wrong; maybe some Chinese Sharp phone?), so that's another huge selling point.

Me too, the developement for it along with ICS is the kicker for me.

My guess as to when other devices get their first official ICS OTA is spring 2012.

FWIW. Chat transcript with sales associate, began after 1000, ended just a moment ago.

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Katy'
Katy: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Me: I was hoping to get some clarification on my account and upgrading my cell phone.
Katy: I would be happy to assist you with upgrading your phone!
Me: I see the account 614XXXXXXX is elgibile for an upgrade. I would like to upgrade the phone for the line 614ZZZZZZZ using this upgrade.
Katy: Okay great!
Me: I have done this in the past and there has never been an issue, but with one line being an LTE with a SIM versus the iPhone, I wanted to make sure all was well.
Katy: I would be happy to walk you through the upgrade process.
Me: Before we get going though I wanted to make sure the Galaxy Nexus was indeed available for sale today.
Katy: Would you mind holding for a moment while I check that information?
Me: Not that the internet, or even ads are always correct, but I have seen ads/fliers in pop-up ads that indicate it's for sale today.
Me: Sure, great.
Katy: Thank You.
Katy: As of now it is not available.
Me: Oh ok. Well I appreciate it. Any idea when it will be available?
Katy: Thank you for your inquiry. We are still on track to announce the availability of the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung this year. We encourage you to sign up at www.verizonwireless.com/galaxynexus so you will be alerted when the phone becomes available."
Katy:
Me: Ok great. I will get back with a sales associate when the Nexus becomes available. Thanks.
Katy: You are very welcome!
Katy: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless; it

I miss the days when a certain VZW employee and AF member, VZ_wired, would come in here after s/he and his/her VZW co-workers would see us all melting down on their lunch breaks (laughing at us), which would then be followed by an encouraging and sympathetic post in this thread.

Where are you VZ_wired...where are you? <sniff, sniff...wipes tears...sniff, sniff>

We would not be considered iSheep at all for buying this phone outright. I for one, am buying this phone when the pre-orders go up. Why are we not iSheep?

Most people going after premium android handsets know what almost all functions are in android.

We know what we want.

Most of us here are going to root/custom rom/customize the living daylights.

We don't want an overly priced piece of glass with no customization out of the box!

I may sound biased against the sheep, but in actuality I'm not. iOS just isn't my type of OS, but it works well for others. just my $0.02

Morning all! Apologies to the night shift; I wanted to stay up later last night, but had been stuffed up all day, so I took some Nyquil and passed out instead. Too bad we didn't wake up to Nexus pre-orders...

Really like this. I think I'd take the hit on phone thickness and get the 2000mAh battery if we get that option. I really hope we do.

Gave up on reading this after the reviewer dropped this little gem: "I can hear the "my phone has an 8-megapixel camera, and yours has a 5-megapixel one! Hoohah!" conversations now"

And to be completely honest, I didn't plan that one. I swear I didn't.
I only believe you because I noticed that his name is "lickwid," as in a play on "liquid." :p Just means that your mind is even in the gutter subconsciously!

Anyone else get their LivingSocial vouchers yet? Can't buy until I have it :(
Isn't this over? I thought the promotion ended last night.

Hello I'm all caught up with the posts from this morning. I had something small done to me, a test as an outpatient yesterday but I was under anesthesia pretty much all day and was a little loopy. That's why I didn't have the past two days.

Anyway I just got all caught up this morning because I slept in. Want to tell everybody how proud I am of you for doing a great job in the face of the disappointment from last night's debacle.

So bravo to the adults who didn't act like kids and a bravo to the kids who acted like adults!

On to a little news report:

I heard from the source. He said that the phone is still in testing. He also said that there is disagreement up at the top levels over the way this phone's release was handled so far.

Now this is my own take. It could just simply be a thing of a disagreement between people who say let's release it now and fix it later vs. those who say let's fix it now and release it later?

Who knows?

Sorry have to quote you again I'm not allowed to edit my posts.

I'm going to flash ICS on my Inc sometime this week and give it a whirl. I want to see how far they've gone with it on my phone. R2 has a 5th version (I believe) out already. HW acceleration has been a bugger, at least on the Inc from what I gather, along with some touch screen issues

I've tried out both the Razr (friend of mine picked one up) and the Rezound. In store, the Rezound was laggy and generally unimpressive. The Razr, I don't know what it was, but after using it for awhile I knew it wasn't for me. Solid phone, I just didn't like it. At this point, it's Nexus or bust, especially after all the positive reviews. I'll preorder this thing and be happy with it.

So no new information.

I wish people would understand that CSR's know (and will tell you) what is available on the Verizon website. As we saw last night we got troll'd hard because of a CSR saying it would be available today.

I'd take whatever you hear from any CSR with a grain of salt, a very tiny grain of salt.

Don't you mean a large grain of salt?

Ugh, it just sounds like VZW is just playing "corporate games" at this point. I really wish they'd make a decision at some point. Like someone said a few pages back, when they got their Storm, it was updated immediately out of the box. If Google really has full control over this device, couldn't they possibly do the same?

I WANT MY GALAXY NEXUS NOW, WHY WASN'T IT RELEASED AT MIDNIGHT WAH WAH WAH WAH:(:(:(:mad::mad::mad::(:(:(:mad::mad:

lol, sorry i had to :D:D felt almost *twilight zone* that no one freaked out :D i agree with you, very proud of all of us!

Got up this morning with intent to have a nice day,First mistake, took my vitamins and alergy pills on an empty stomache, more on that later. Grabbed a cup of coffee, put it IN my car and headed to VZW. I was greeted with a Good Morning,How can I help you? I asked all the usual G NEX questions and got the usual answers of No confirmation dates...etc. So I decided to look at the Rhyme and Razr, just to kill a few minutes...I over hear one of the cust reps talking to the other...He is here a lot. The other says yeah he is nice, just old. WTF! I train rookie cops street tactics when they get out of the academy,I have probably trained more cops than some Departments HAVE cops...Now I am mad. Remember I had taken my meds and vitamains and had a cup of coffee,My stomache starts hurting so I ask to use the bathroom. Well I feel sorry for the NEXT customer but I DESTROYED the place, and just because I am old I forgot to flush.Sorry..........
