***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

never heard of these guys before...who are they and why should we listen to what they say??

As I've said before, anything that doesn't come directly from Verizon is just rumor and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. To answer your question, I believe these guys are from Team Black Hat. This is a group of developers who P3Droid is also a part of. They've had the Verizon Gnex for a couple weeks now and just received the latest firmware update. They claim that the Gnex has had some bugs and as of 2 weeks ago, the device was not close to being ready for release, but the latest update has made things much better. They stand by the mid-late December release date.

I don't think the CSRs really care. I am sure they are busy all day no matter what, and saying "I don't know" is about as easy as it gets. Water off a duck's back.

And for those of you who enjoy pictures of this ilk (BB?) feel free to check out this link: Whatever happens, don’t say Awww (33 Photos) : theCHIVE

So true about the csr's. And thanks for the link.
I guess you figured out I'm a mush at heart. :D

Hey, all. I was lurking all day and then had the ride home, pick up the kid... Etc... The last I heard, Han's sister said it COULD be first quarter and not December. Did something change?

Nope, things are exactly the same as earlier. We can pretty much see the phone at any time now however if everything isn't worked out (whatever that means at Verizon) there's a chance it could get pushed back to January. So there might or might not be an announcement this week and there might or might not be preorders next week... etc...

That's really sad. Patrice O'Neal had a lot of talent.

Elephant In The Room (2011) was my favorite stand-up show of the year by far (by anyone).

RIP

Off topic-- Thanks. Prior to today, I had never heard of this guy, and now I have the Elephant in the Room saved to my Netflix instant queue.

Nothing "news breaking" has really changed sorry :)

Well I suppose that's even better. The fact that they are sending units to play with sounds good. So these are probably closer to production units than, say, P3's test unit?

I have no idea what if any the difference will be. My assumption is software if anything.

Is the fact your firm has been given access to the device just now any clue as to how close release is or are they getting aquired through some b2b channel more direct from samsung or something rather than VZW?

I heard the announcement was going to be soon, but that was last week when I heard that information. Peoples interpretation of what soon is differs. The devices are coming on behalf of Verizon. I don't pretend to have any inside information as to when the device is going to be released to the public. I know that we reached out to our contact to test the units last month and received confirmation yesterday that they'll be here by end of week. Pretty much who the process goes in the business.

Called the Nexus a "game changer."

But also said it will not be available until 1st Quarter of next year.

This was not a Verizon sub --- it was a real "red shirted" Verizon store in West Georgia. She is a friend of mine and I asked is she would be willing to give me a "scoop" on this matter.

My thoughts...

Verizon has had dates that they were going to release the Nexus. But they keep finding problems that could be fixed with software updates. Every phone that is released anymore has problems right out the gate. Every time Verizon finds a problem with the Nexus and gets a software update all it will do is create a problem somewhere else. They can test the phone till the cows come home. No matter how much they say the phone is now perfect to be released there will more than likely be a problem with many devices that will require yet another software update.

The whole handling of this phone has me starting to think of going back to the iphone. I had the 3G. I also dislike Apple. Of course I would jailbreak it and then sell it as soon as the iphone 5 comes out because I'm positive the 5 will have a bigger screen.

I refuse to get an HTC again. They build mediocre phones. HTC is like a restaurant with a huge menu. Why have so many phones and make them half assed when you could make a few and make them some of the best out there.

As for the Razr. Throw it in the toilet for all I care. LG? LG just isn't a phone company to me. A different Samsung? Samsung Nexus for me or no Samsung.

Someone please talk me off the ledge!

Don't buy it for a second. Why would some random person at a single store know this and no other reports from a live VZW rep? I'm not trusting any info at this point unless it's from the horses mouth. That means no twitter crap, no random reports of people talking to CSRs or VZW sales people. The only sources I give the benefit of the doubt to at this point are Hanette and Steven's source. And I take those with a grain of salt because they may be misinformed or also hearing non-concrete information. Nonetheless, I appreciate their information and I hope it continues.

I am sure she is a good friend and not taking anything away from the friendship or her but she is a CSR. It is well established they know less then us and get their information from us many times.

If you ever watched an episode of STAR TREK, you know what happens to "RED SHIRTS".

Coming out of hiding just long enough to say Thank You to Steven for your tireless efforts in keeping up with the ever changing [lack of] news. :) And with that, I fade back into the darkness of lurkdom.

Instead of speculating on dates which gets us no where...let's speculate on something else...what do we think were the bugs that supposedly delayed the release?

Also, I get mad that Verizon takes forever to release devices too...however, when I talk to AT&T customers and Sprint customers with how many problems their phones have...I am happy to wait (for the most part).

So anyway, why do we think the release was supposedly delayed? What bugs?

1.) Volume bug (although many say this is a GSM problem only)
2.) My Verizon.apk...would make sense because VZW cannot release a phone where that app doesn't work...that would make them look VERY stupid.
3.) LTE battery life problems?

Everyone else's thoughts?

GMK83, if you don't mind me asking, is your firm receiving handsets from Verizon because it is somehow related to the sale of the phone or the relevant parties (i.e., Samsung, Google, Verizon)? Or is it simply receiving the handsets because many people at the firm use Verizon products and Verizon is simply marketing it?

Okay, so I have been stalking this thread for a week or so now. I guess I am overdue for putting in my 2 cents worth regarding the release date.

I was told today by our corporate Verizon rep that it is coming out sometime between the 8th & 15th of December. No idea about preorders.

You will end up enduring self loathing if you jump ship for an iOS device. I can't say I agree on everything else but you need to take a couple deep breaths, step back, go watch a movie or have a drink or take your wife / girlfriend /mother/ sister /husband /boyfriend /father /brother /kids/best friend or some stranger in line at the grocery store to dinner. Then come back with a clear head and wait for this kracken to be released. It'll be worth it.

Verizon hasn't said anything since October, and so nothing really has ever changed this entire time.

Verizon is the only source.

This is the attitude that I've taken. It makes things so much easier than getting angry over every rumored release date that is missed. It's fun reading the forum everyday and speculating on the release with everyone, but it doesn't make sense to stress out over it. Now if Verizon doesn't release the Gnex by the end of the year.....well, that's another story!

Word got out that Patrice O'Neal died in the past couple hours. That made me sad, I'll miss him on O&A. Kinda puts the whole phone thing in perspective. But as for the Nexus, no, nothing of note.

He passed away last night but it wasn't reported until today.:(
