***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

So here's how I think the next several weeks are going to go.

On Friday I will attend my daughter's choral concert. She's very musical, and I'm always impressed and proud to watch her singing with her friends. And then, on Saturday and Sunday, she'll be part of a children's chorus during performances of "The Nutcracker," so that will be more of the same.

It will be a busy weekend, but at some point I'll find time to get the Christmas decorations down from the attic. I'm a sucker for family traditions; we'll put up the tree and decorate it while listening to Christmas music. It's always fun to pull out the old ornaments, which are reminders of when my daughter was younger. There's still one she made in kindergarten, and of course those Powerpuff Girls ornaments, and the one her best friend gave her in second grade. Time goes so fast, and somehow the holidays remind me of that more than anything else.

Next week I'll wind up my work for the year and start my year-end vacation (we're required to use all of our accrued vacation days before the end of the year). There's lots of stuff I want to do during my time off: reading, some jobs around the house, movies to watch. Maybe I'll record some new music; haven't had enough time for that lately.

Before I know it, it will be time to load up the car and head down to my parents' house for the family Christmas gathering. Every year, I'm thankful that my parents are still in good health and that my siblings live close enough that we can all get together.

Somewhere in there, I'll most likely get a new phone, which will also be fun. Fortunately, that's not the most important thing I've got going on right now.

And I think the vast majority here think exactly like you do. This forum for most is just to pass time and give some excitement during the day. Better then real life drama sometimes, wouldn't you say and a nice reprieve from monotony. I truly hope those that come on to this forum don't think this is what is driving our lives' or even come close to a huge deal for us. We know what is important in life and the GN is only #4 ;)

This was in response to me asking my guy (cellular provider) about the delay as well as asking him if he could get me a "test" device. No need to take it with a grain of salt and no need in believing its validity. Just a very sad man (me) spreading the word. [:-[

Mean Joe Green (name changed for privacy),

You are correct about the delay. I'm traveling with one of the higher up's with VZW these past 3 days. He got the email this morning. However, I've also been told by my inventory manager that we are still receiving the phones on Friday. However, if VZW says we can't activate the phones until the official launch date (whenever that date is), then we'll have to wait. VZW is the one that loads up the ESN's or MEID's of this model that allows that serial number to get activated. They can block that or not pay us the subsidy if we try to activate early. Either way, we have to wait until we get the official word. The only "test" devices are the ones that have rate plans that are considered demo plans, like mine.

I'll keep you informed. You are more than welcome to come by and drool over the phone on Friday knowing you can't use it yet :)

Super great, very informative person

Today was the 14 day mark for me with the Rezound. I went down to my local store for clarification on the return policy. I guess I lucked out catching one of the store managers right off the bat.

She told me that the holiday promotion is in fact for unactivated phones only, but after explaining my intentions with the Gnex, she gave me a card with her name and told me that as long as I bring the Rezound back before January 15th and asked for her, she would exchange it for me anyway.

For what it's worth, in both that encounter and a phone call yesterday where I did a poor job explaining my intentions, they genuinely seemed to be very unsure when the phone would release. She made sure I understood that she could only do me the favor before the 15th, whether the Gnex is available or not.

you should've showed her your receipt that has nothing on it about activated devices.

This is absolutely false. I was specifically told, by a call and email, that activation status had no bearing on the return policy. As long as it was purchased in the time frame it could be returned or exchanged until Jan 15th with the $35 restocking fee. She's blowing smoke up your ... to make you feel like she's doing you a favor.

This thread is perpetually two pages ahead of my reading :)

I'm only behind when I'm forced to attend to actual work or family obligations such as dinner. Believe me, I could skip a few meals and be ok..........

Mmmm, cookies........ Must resist........

Nom nom nom.

I find it pretty hilarious that whenever VZW posts anything on their fb page, regardless of subject, they are pummeled by screams for the Nexus.

I go there for laughs. It can be something as simple as, "Christmas Shopping? We have what you need! Rule the Air with Verizon Wireless. Let us help you fill those stockings!"

And it will be followed up by:

"I wanted to stuff my stocking with the Nexus...oh wait, nevermind."
"My Christmas Shopping got delayed because you won't release the Nexus! GIVE ME THE NEXUS!"

And that one, troll-like post between them all:

"&*^%$ BEATS AUDIO! *&$#@ RAZR! WE WANT THE NEXUS!"

I am so entertained here at work today. :p

So with all the bad news swirling this morning, I decided to take a trip to my local verizon wireless store in the southwest Chicago suburbs. I wanted to see if I could talk my way into playing with a Galaxy Nexus. Sure enough, after telling the employee that I was considering buying a razr but really wanted to feel what the nexus felt like in my hand, he told me he had one in the back! Sure enough, he came out with a working model!

So, my first impressions. I will be waiting for this phone. The camera is just as fast as everyone says. I love having the widgets in the app drawer. Speaking of widgets, being able to resize them is an awesome feature. I love that ICS took a page out of Cyanogen and lets you swipe away alerts. It worked very smooth. It felt similar in size to the razr but (forgive me) less sharp? The nexus just has more rounded edges. It did not feel to big in my jeans pocket either. All in all, after playing with the phone, I feel better.

8 minutes till class is over and im making my way to the nearest verizon store to do the same thing. Ill probably also mention that another store nearby told me i could pick it up friday. maybe the bid for commission will be enough theyll sell it to me too. (Other store did say I could get it friday still, but that was at like 10am today when they opened).

NEXUS delayed again.....it is amazing how incompetent Verizon is. I bet you could give the phone to kid's selling lemonade and they could launch this thing better than they could. Really considering moving carriers.

OT:

Rod Blagojevich sentenced to 14 years. I didn't work on it at all, but at least I got a semi-victory today.

Amen to that. Did you see the complete failure of basic math by his attorney (I think, heard it second hand) and thinking that 168 months was 12 years? :D

ON TOPIC - I've been sulking at work. My OGD is just...so pathetic. I don't even use it anymore.

you sir, have your priorities in line :)

big thumbs up for you

It says nothing on the receipt about the return policy only being for non activated devices. If they try to deny a return just because of that you need to stand up and ask them where it says that. I am also planning on returning my Rezound after getting the Nexus. I put it on my credit card at full retail so if I do have any issues getting it returned I can let my credit card company handle it.

Where's Antimony? He'll be very excited to see this.

THis is EXACTLY why Verizon jumped so fast to deny they were "blocking" the app yesterday. They know they can't block Google Wallet legally, and any implication that is what they are doing will lead to either a lawsuit or a federal investigation. I thought the rumors of Google Wallet having something to do with the delay were bogus (and mostly still do), but it makes you think. Did the Verizon execs get pissed at Google for making that statement yesterday? The timeline matches up. So does the LTE issues. So does the timing of the leaks. Who knows.
