[ROOT GUIDE] Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2

SXTP_Agat_BSTFL24-v0.2.0.tar This is what i rooted with and then installed superuser from Sd card. So yes i guess i am on stock Kernel ICS FL24 never Flashed a custom rom after root. sorry bout the not explaining.

Newb question here: on lg marquee we used CWM for flashing roms. Once I've got a zip downloaded how do I flash the rom? should I use mobile Odin or cwm? And what is a tar file? Thanks for all your patience.

Go to the OP you got the ROM from and follow the instructions there. Pretty much all custom ROMs use recovery to flash and not Odin.

Hello. I purchased a Samsung galaxy s2 from boost mobile last weeek and am interested in rooting it. This is my first samsung device as ive only used HTC and LG. ive read through this guide 2x but seeing as i just spen $300 i want to be sure im doing it correctly. i did update to JB through Kies the day i got this phone and It seems this guide was released for ICS. ive downloaded Odin and already have kies. My concern is this kernel repack GB27. im not sure what that is. i know what a kernel is as it relates to android as ive rooted every android device ive ever had. Ive read that the link in the OP is a ICS kernel. im gonna post a screenshot showing my info and just would like to ask somebody to please help me in showing me a link or explaining what Agat kernel or updated JB kernel do i need to add to not brick my phone. thanks to any and all who help

The only thing you do different is use the kernel that is compatible with GC01. AGAT 0.6.8 is for ICS only. You can get the kernel you need here.

[KERNEL][JB][SOURCE][BST] GC01 + Agat's Recovery

Okay I'm not doing something right. I downloaded the kernel: SXTP_Agat_GC01-v0.4.1.zip from this link [KERNEL][JB][SOURCE][BST] GC01 + Agat's Recovery and i chose the one that says 4.1. And I put it in the pda box in odin and hit start I get a message that says

"<OSM>All threads completed(succeed 0/failed 0")

So I'm gonna assume it didn't take lol. Do I need to install drivers? My pc recognizes phone and I have Kies downloaded. Did I chose the Wrong kernel? Odin seems simple enough but why am is in not taking? any ideas?

Okay, you have installed Kies which installed the drivers. Which file did you download (exact name of the file including the extention (the bit after the ".") Don't run Kies when you run Odin, and put your phone in download mode before connecting to the pc via the cable. You should see Odin show a comport lit when it sees the phone. You want the tar file to flash with Odin.

I 2nd what code said. Get the GC01 agat file listed as a .tar to flash with Odin, there should also be a .zip and a .exe if I'm right, you need the .tar. You did everything right, just make sure kies isn't running, you may have to stop it using task manager on your PC.

Can anyone tell me if the boost galaxy s2 has a update out yet? Been working a lot and haven't had time to get on here much to check. Im on Fl24 ICS.

After rooting my phone, when it rebooted the initial boot screen with yellow triangle appeared but then it was just blank. When I plugged it in the laptop, the laptop reconizes it and I was still able to go into recovery mode. Why is my screen going blank?

Thanks:confused:

In case no one knows framaroot works well....i downloaded it from xda and was rooted in less than 30 seconds....havent flashed anything yet as im looking for a good kernel first...oh yea and no pc needed

Question: I have not rooted for a couple years (since HTC Evo 3d to Boost) So please excuse my noobness. I have a New Samsung Galaxy SII coming from Boost Mobile. When It arrives I would just like root access with stock kernel/rom. Meaning i would like th JB build and update GC01. I have read the guide to root and it sems self explanatory, except, after i flash AGAT's kernel for the GC01 update, do i need to flash a certain stock rom, or can i leave the rom as is. Also should i do the OTA update from boost, or should i do the update using GC01 Kies Release with GB27 restore components added to make a full restore ( this i process i found as a link in reading this forum) Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

GC01 is a wire only update, so you would have to install it via the kies app or you could flash the Rooted version of GC01 from here:

[ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710BST GC01 (GC01 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Root/Stock)

If you are wanting custom recovery then you would have to flash a recovery kernel into GC01 from here:

[KERNEL][JB][SOURCE][BST] GC01 + Agat's Recovery

So just to confirm, i would follow root directions and install v0.5.0 - Agat's Recovery put back in, this is the stock kernel an rom together? There are 3 other links but i am not sure exactly what those are or if they are for me. If my phone comes with the most current build, do i need to still flash the GC01 update? Sorry for the redundancy, some of these other threads expect me to already know what i need so they leave out some vital info. And thanks Codegerm, you have been very helpful

If you Have unrooted GC01 already then install the GC01 recovery kernel (yes 0.5.0) then use its recovery to flash in superuser to complete the rooting. GC01 is the most current ROM. It has to be done by a wired update due to size and format changes of the TW JB. IF you are on GCO1 (look at your about phone in settings), then just root it. If not then you need to flash the ROM, and if you have to Flash the ROM anyways, you could just flash the rooted one and be done with rooting at the same time.

Codegerm you are the best bro, thanks for using language i can understand, that clarified all my clouded questions, again THANKS you rock!!!

And my (hopefully last question on this subject). I have read the entire thread, and haven't seen anything related to this build particularly, but does everything work ie., mms, vvm, and wifi? Or are there fixes i will have to do to get them working? thank you

yes GC01 is the official Boost labeled ROM. it is available via kies update (non Rooted), or you can do the the rooted one click restore install. run it on your windows PC, and it creates a folder on your pc that has the configured self contained odin installer.

Okay, just got my phone, couple quick questions. it is the FL24 build. So can i update to GC01 thru kies and root before i activate it? also, during the rooting process which files are to copied to the SD card?
