2.2 Froyo for the Captivate Discussion

lol...fair enough..but you are SO wrong in classifying a low level employee as compromising their values..but back to topic...
 
I bet froyo for US will be released with the promised Canadian release, december 15. If it DOESN'T happen before the 20th than it won't happen until January.
 
Doesn't hurt to remember that when a rep says they haven't heard of what should be known:

  • They could be lying.
  • They could be new.
  • They could have coincidentally not taken such calls yet.
  • Corporate could have left it off their list.
  • Corporate could have spun their list.
  • They could have looked up their list incorrectly before responding.

FWIW - a guy in the EVO forums had a similar posting with a Sprint rep - and that exchange, interestingly, including an outrageous promise date for the 2.2 update, while claiming no knowledge of some other problem we had. In that instance, it turns out that rep's prediction came true on that early date.

I watch here with interest to see if history repeats itself.
 
Why dont you guys just Root, CWM and then flash to Axura RC1. You wont ever worry about Froyo again. :)

This thing is a Cheetah on steroids.

If Android wasn't programmed in Sh*#-in-a-box Java...then I would love to take on the feat of programming the whole device. Throw some .NET in there and it'll fly like a falcon.

I'm running Cognition and it fixed the Bluetooth & wifi problems I had with the stock ROM. And I've had my Cap less than a week. :)

That's just wrong on so many levels, beginning with: Android is Linux not Windows. And we all know how .NET on Linux worked out.

And the JIT compiler is indeed impressive.

But - I could be wrong, so...

If you'd like to take on the feat of programming a whole device, you can get close to your equivalent wish by going here (and I offer this as help, not sarcasm):

I'm still being patient waiting for Froyo. I really haven't had problems with Eclair, really. Just the usual quirks I expect with a computer. Still, I'm looking forward to the upgrade.
 
I'm trying to figure out why incoming txt messages are sometimes empty and come with some 'Downloading' notification. Anyone have any idea what this is? I'm on 2.2 as of the other day.

That, but I often get this when someone on AT&T either fwds a text or sends a text to multiple recipients. I got that on 2.1 and 2.2, fwiw.

In the case of multiple-recipient msgs, I've seen these take a full day to download - and naturally, these usually contain msgs like - "Can we have a conference call now?" Frustrating.
 
Without reading through this entire forum, @galaxyssupport tweeted that 2.2 would be available for captivate, epic & vibrant before the end of the year

Available from whom? Samsung to the carriers, so they can fiddle with it for months? Or from the carriers to us, as crippledl up as they can get it?

If the link goes to google's servers, can someone please go to the link and grab the url, the Captivate's update might be available on the server just not made public yet. Usually the device name will be part of the url path (i.e. "passion" for the N1, "dream" for the G1, "captivate (?)" for us)... I am away from a computer but this is a possibility... I got 2.2.1 pre-official release this way...
