Root alternate recovery!

I have even thought about making a backup card that has a recovery flash and a working backup on it ready to go that I just stick in my wallet. Can you do it with a 8GB card? I have one lying around here somewhere. Be nice if you could have a radio, too, but I want it to be ready to go with no computer needed.

I would suggest formatting it in the bolt first, but yeah that should work.

Sure. You could do it with a 2gb card... they're cheap! I keep saying I'm gonna make up an emergency spare SD,but haven't done it yet. I'd like to 2 ... one with a recovery and backups, one with just some backups, maybe a rom?

So is this recovery ready to fully replace CWR yet?

The ROM Manager update screwed my recovery to the point I had to pull my card and load jcase's version just to get into recovery to flash my backup.

If anyone opens Rom Manager and it tells you there's a CWR update available. Don't accept it.

for an experienced user i see no reason to continue using clockwork. this is still working great for me. ive flashed, backed up,and restored with no issues. my biggest annoyance was the capacitive buttons randomly stopped working, wich is supposedly fixed in the latest. the change log didnt specifically say anything about the splash screen hangs,so i dont know if its been offically fixed, but i havent had any more prollems with it.

give it a shot. worse case you just gotta reinstall clockwork via hboot or rom messer-upper ;)

as a side note,i dont think i like the rocker scroll. i thot i would but it seems overly sensitive- i have trouble stopping where i want to stop  i spose ill get used to it :p

edit:
what did the update try and take you to? 4.0.0.5 or 4.0.1.0? or 3.1.x.x?

second edit: i see recovery failing to start is still a known issue,so this update hasnt fixed it yet.

I believe it was 4.0.1.5, I deleted Rom Manager all together after but I'm almost positive that was the latest version it pushed on me. Probably should have known better and not accepted..

Glad I had CWR stashed on my card though..

What's the problem? I accepted it. I thought it was all screwed up, but it's just that the progress bar is no longer working. It seems to work better. I haven't done much on it, but it did a backup in about half the time of the previous version.

Yeah I noticed that when I did my nandroid. Worked fine for that. But it wouldn't boot into recovery after. Couldn't get in through hboot, Rom manager, or when I'd get the ROM to load long enough to try booting in manually it froze up everytime at the HTC screen. And eventually wouldn't even load the ROM. So I couldn't load the ROM or get to recovery.

Pulled the SD and used my card reader to manually flash my backup CWR in hboot.

Maybe it was a bad flash. I just wiped everything and restored backup. Only took four minutes to restore the backup. That seems like an improvement.

Wanted to pop in and say I have no problem booting to twrp from the power toggle reboot menu now. Plus the new version will fast vol -/+ scrolling is reason enough to never looked at CWM again :D

glad its not give you a hard time now. i have to get used to the fast scroll... i keep overshooting it,lol...

It's really very sensitive! I wonder if I blow on it rather than tapping it? But really, it is a welcome addition. I've always tried doing it in cwr knowing it didn't work and I was always saying, this is silly. Def starting to get the hang of it.

The freezing at HTC splash screen is still an issue, but its only happened twice now to me,and its easily fixed.

Its been extremely stable for me. Give it a try. :)

I don't have an HTC splash screen but it did freeze one time at my custom splash ;) I updated to the newest release and have gone into recovery at least 8 times in the last 24 hours and haven't had any issues.

I'm on the newest version (the one with rocker scrolling) and have been into recovery numerous times using the built in power toggle reboot>recovery without issue. This should be everyone's default recovery as far as I'm concerned

Shout out for this Recovery. It's amazing. Works flawlessly, all of my backups that I have made have worked like a charm! I 100% say everyone should go this way! :D

i had the splash hang once when i first flashed it,and once a couple days ago,on 1.0.3-rbox.2. its still a known prollem in the changelog, the newest version hasnt fixed it yet.

not that im reccomending against it. ive been using it since they released it and i love it. just want people to be aware its still a posability in case it happens... could be a lil scary for a new rooter to have the splash screen freeze trying to get to recovery

ps: why is it so hard to type "splash" without leaving out the p or the l :o:p

Didn't realize there were that many posts when I started 'thanking'.. :o

Yes, TWRP is ready for prime time, been using it for a couple days booted into it probably a dozen times, made a nandroid, restored, flashed kernels, themes, all with no issues. Never hung at the sash, I mean splash, screen. :D

yeah the spash-lash thing is not a huge issue. ive been in and out of recovery more times than i have fingers and toes to count since flashing 1.0.3-rbox.2 and its only happened once.
