OOOPS! also just noticed that the 4g was "searching" for 4g signal for the last 2 plus days when 4g is not even close to me. OOPS.. maybe that will help my battery life.

Definitely disable the 4G if you know you have none around you. That will drain the battery in no time.

Completely new to Android, but have found several things in the past few days:

I disabled background data, added a widget for mobile network (which I toggle on/off as needed, this comes on quickly when needed) and this has really, REALLY improved my battery life. From 8-10 hours...to 20 hours today, and counting. Battery is still at 3/10 bars. Up time is 20:00:00, awake 4:22:20. Yes, I haven't been on the phone that much today, but still it is much improved. Wi-fi when at all possible, otherwise off. No 4G in my area, so always off. And GPS off. No task killer program running.

Although, it seems senseless to have to toggle mobile network capabilities off/on, if you really need to maintain battery power, this seems to be the way to go. Certainly an extra battery is an option, but while you're waiting for it to come in the mail, this may help!

A great widget is the "Power Control" widget - helps you quickly toggle settings when not in use. Including screen brightness - going from dim to automatic to full brightness.

Now that the newness is wearing down I feel like I can start finding things like a good static wallpaper and take off the giant twitter widget and such to start maximizing battery life.

Also, if you're like me I'm sure you have installed tons of apps to check out since getting the phone, but have since found ones you like better that do the same thing. Uninstall what you don't need any longer, because sometimes they'll pop up running in the background for no apparent reason.

ok so after having the evo for a few days im quite pleased with the battery. my current state is 25% battery left after 15 hrs of use. today i streamed a few videos, facebooked, emailed, browsed on and off all day, texted, and made calls....

pretty f'n good if you ask me. my only complaint is i still seem to be sucking a bit too much juice when the phone is just sitting. this could be because i only have 2 bars at my house...and i might have to do a bit more tweaking to get the most out of my battery.

oh and btw do any of you notice tiny horizontal lines on the screen (mostly visible in darker colors, but you really have to search for them) i talked to a couple of people that have noticed this, do you think its a problem? what should i do?

Edit:
Auto brightness on
4g off
Gps off
WiFi and 3 g on and off at times
Autosync on
Mobile data on
No task killer

My battery has been terrible. I don't understand it. I even use taskiller and everything. It's a pain in the ass to every time you use your phone, to remember to close everything out too. Why doesn't worthless applications just close automatically w/ out using up the available memory just sitting around? I don't get that part about android

If your signal is weak it will destroy your battery. Sunday at work I left mobile network on, and I had to recharge twice over 9 hours. Today I kept it off while I was working,(Calls and texts still come in, just not data) and snapped it on during breaks and lunch for much needed internets and e-book readan. My battery was at about 40% when I got off. MUCH BETTER.

I've been using WiFi where I can and that seems to help. I don't use task-killers though.

iv heard many cases where task killer actually uses more battery for people and causes legginess which most likely cause more cpu usage which ends up in more battery usage. whenever you hit the home button android basically ends the task you were using. even though you hold the home button it will show tasks, those are just held in your ram. just because the task is still there doesnt mean it is running. basically android holds recent tasks in your memory so you have easy access to them but removes them when needed. just because the task is still there its not using your cpu, its just held in the memory for easy access, but removed when needed so it doesnt hog your memory. gotta love android. ditch the task killer and let android do its job.

My view on the battery - terrible.

I depleted my battery three times today, I'm on my 4th full charge so far. Something just seems wrong. I fully charged it today, took it off the charger at 9. By 2, with some moderate use, it was dead. I charged it again. Played Replica Island for 10-12 minutes, made a 20 minute phone call... battery was at ~60% with 55 minutes of uptime. It died by 6. Fully charged it again, and it was dead again around 11.

14 hours for three charges? Just gross. I don't have super heavy use either. I do leave GPS on, but AGPS shouldn't be hurting the battery. I've got my google account, facebook, and weather... that's it.

If the phone sits idle the battery will be down 30% overnight. Not a huge deal - it was the same on my TP2 (maybe worse) if I left push e-mail on. Still, something has to be wrong.

Battery will go down to 30%, and I'll have used the camera for maybe 5-6 minutes, and it'll say 40% of the power used was by the camera in that time. Again, a little ridiculous.

Maybe I got a bum battery?

It's all about efficiency. If you go back to use those applications you backed out of, they take no time at all to open up. If you kill them every time, and go back, it takes all the memory required to open it again, and more CPU to start the process up again. Seriously, with the exception of Pandora, just let the phone do it's stuff. I've not yet to install a task killer on my phone since I got it at 10:30am today. I don't intend to install one, unless I download Pandora. Pandora just runs and runs and runs and won't ever close out no matter how long you let it sit.

Basically, task killers are bad. Don't use them unless you KNOW there's a rouge app, and it's significantly bogging the phone down. I.E. some third party non-market apps, Pandora, the likewise.

You guys should grab Systempanel and monitor your battery and apps. It might shed some light on your story.

This was today. I really need to lay off the live wallpaper, but they are so awesome. :)

It was $49.95 from Seidio.com

i got mine from amazon for 41 bucks along with the seidio innocase for 23 and the charger for 23 as well and the 2 pack screen protector for 1099. overall i saved 25 bucks ordering from amazon and got free 2 day shipping.

I don't quite get it either, I must just have horrible signal, because my battery dies within 4 hours or so of moderate usage. I've followed several different guides on how to preserve battery life, I'm not using a live wallpaper, I have auto sync and other crap disabled and still horrible battery life.

Thankfully I have 3 batteries, but it's kind of crazy.

Same experience here... the 1500 mah battery doesn't cut it. I don't know how people do it. :(

Mine lasts pretty well honestly. I don't mess with task killers, don't really use live wallpapers or widgets that constantly pull from the internet. Wifi will help in places with poor signal because the phone won't have to work as hard to pull emails and other updates. Typically I take mine off the charger in the morning and just use it on occasion during the day. Today at work I was in a studio with terrible reception due to lots of wiring around me and it drained a bit faster but still worked during the whole day while playing with it on one or two bars. When I am not in a place like that, I usually come home with around 50% battery...enough to last the rest of the day if I am staying at home but maybe topping off if I plan on going out. All in all, a minor improvement over my Pre but on par with other smart phones I have owned.

I have a 1750 mah battery (seidio), seems like the OEM last longer... dont know yet, we'll see after a weeks worth of use.

I also use a task killer, gps off, bluetooth off, 4g off, wifi on (uses less power than 3g radio). facebook syncs every hour, also with my gmail.

100% charged around 1:00pm, barely used the phone, browsed the internet for 10 minutes.... went to school with 75% at 3:30pm, turned it on once for 5 minutes. got home at 9:20pm then the battery was at 35%.

When i checked the battery info, Cell Standby was #1 at 33%.

Anybody know whats going on? Barely used the phone and it's dying from doing nothing. Played no games and I didn't have any running apps. Killed them.
