one of the biggest things that helped my battery life was settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks and to uncheck "enable always-on mobile data"

I don't need a constant data connection. programs that sync will establish a connection and my gmail still gets pushed down.

with that, screen brightness down, turing off random hourly syncs...i've averaged about 20 hrs a day with lots of texts, internet and general showing this beast off ;)

ok so after having the evo for a few days im quite pleased with the battery. my current state is 25% battery left after 15 hrs of use. today i streamed a few videos, facebooked, emailed, browsed on and off all day, texted, and made calls....

pretty f'n good if you ask me. my only complaint is i still seem to be sucking a bit too much juice when the phone is just sitting. this could be because i only have 2 bars at my house...and i might have to do a bit more tweaking to get the most out of my battery.

oh and btw do any of you notice tiny horizontal lines on the screen (mostly visible in darker colors, but you really have to search for them) i talked to a couple of people that have noticed this, do you think its a problem? what should i do?
if you have wifi at home I would suggest you switch to that when you're home. I do that with my N1 and get over 24 hrs battery life with moderate usage

If your signal is weak it will destroy your battery. Sunday at work I left mobile network on, and I had to recharge twice over 9 hours. Today I kept it off while I was working,(Calls and texts still come in, just not data) and snapped it on during breaks and lunch for much needed internets and e-book readan. My battery was at about 40% when I got off. MUCH BETTER.

I've been using WiFi where I can and that seems to help. I don't use task-killers though.

Having to turn off mobile network data on supposedly the most advanced smartphone you can buy, and pay $10 monthly for, seems, well I can't print the word that comes to mind.

A great widget is the "Power Control" widget - helps you quickly toggle settings when not in use. Including screen brightness - going from dim to automatic to full brightness.

Now that the newness is wearing down I feel like I can start finding things like a good static wallpaper and take off the giant twitter widget and such to start maximizing battery life.

Also, if you're like me I'm sure you have installed tons of apps to check out since getting the phone, but have since found ones you like better that do the same thing. Uninstall what you don't need any longer, because sometimes they'll pop up running in the background for no apparent reason.

It is handy, but root cause is people not appreciating that:

1. snapdragon
2. 4.3" lcd
3. widgets
4. live wallpapers
5. 3g/4g
6. wifi
7. gps
8. etc

Uses a lot of battery. If you expect the battery to last (just like any other higher end Android device) you need to turn stuff off and use only what you need. If not, look in the mirror- as far as who to blame for battery life. It is amazing the battery lasts as long as it does in this device and the Inc, considering what people leave running.

I don't think anyone else has answered this yet so I will give it a shot.

Those are part of the screen architecture, specifically the touch sensor assembly, if I am not mistaken. I notice it on mine but I have to look really hard. You can also see it when the screen is off as well, you just have to hold the phone at just the right angle in the light. Nothing to worry about, all capacitive touchscreen devices have this, some are easy to see, some are not. It was extremely noticeable on my Pre, harder for me to notice on the Evo.

It's all about efficiency. If you go back to use those applications you backed out of, they take no time at all to open up. If you kill them every time, and go back, it takes all the memory required to open it again, and more CPU to start the process up again. Seriously, with the exception of Pandora, just let the phone do it's stuff. I've not yet to install a task killer on my phone since I got it at 10:30am today. I don't intend to install one, unless I download Pandora. Pandora just runs and runs and runs and won't ever close out no matter how long you let it sit.

Basically, task killers are bad. Don't use them unless you KNOW there's a rouge app, and it's significantly bogging the phone down. I.E. some third party non-market apps, Pandora, the likewise.

Just press the menu button and select exit to close pandora. Don't use the home button cuz it will keep running.

The "light", "moderate" and "heavy" use statements are relative to the user and will be off for others, since one person's light use may be another's medium, etc. Unless you use the device in the same places and use the same apps, the margin of error for comparison is pointless.

Not to mention when some people over or understate reality- not that it ever happens, of course ;)

I unplugged my phone at 630am. It remained off until around 4pm when I got home from work(I work in a secure buliding, I can't take my phone in). Battery was still full. From 5-1130pm it got heavy use. I just sat on the couch and played games, surfed the web, and just tinkered with the phone in general(it's stlil new and shiny, I can't put it down). At about 11pm the battery meter turned red and told me to plug it in because their was less than 15% battery left.

All in all, color more impressed. I don't think it's as good as my old iPhone, but definitely acceptable. I had live wallpaper running, a ATK running, and the screen brightness set to about 20%. That's all I did tweak-wise.

First of all congrates to all of you who managed to use this battery for long periods of time. I don't know how you guys do it. After using this phone for the last couple of days...I find this battery very weak. I charge the phone and turn it on. I go through the home screens and the battery is already draining?? LOL WTF?? The 4g, wifi, and gps is all off. I assume when the light turns green it means that the phone is fully charged. MY question is do I need the battery to charge longer even after the green light is on or should I just get a new battery?

I unplugged this morning at 100%, after my 45 minute drive to work. Never once turned the phone on ... and it dropped 11% :O

I went in and noticed the system was running 100%, checked and found my Woot checker awake and running. Deleted the app and now it's been an hour and only dropped 3%.

I have a similar result and my android system is using 60-70 percent of my battery life, which is strange because on my HTC Hero android system was never above 2%. I have turned off account sync. Any ideas to what could be causing android system to use so much? Just got my evo yesterday, and everything is pretty much stock and I removed all the widgets.

Also no 4g or wifi is turned on.

How would you classify this? Good or bad?

Unplugged at 5:30am --- 5 short calls, moderate texting, a few pages of web surfing, and a couple of youtube videos---brightness down near the bottom, always mobile off, wifi on and I'm at 67% battery as of 9:45am......

Where do you do that?

I unplugged my phone at 5:00am. didn't use it until about 7am. Downloaded Layer at 9am and played with it for about 30 minutes. Then i launched qik to test it out.. took a 2 minute video and it's now 11:18 AM and my battery is Yellow (19% remaining)

I just downloaded that systempanel program from above and found that qik & layer were still running.... I though the anroid software shuts programs down an hour after they used?

I guess i'll try using this systempanel from now on.. it lets me kill programs
