FWIW: I'm 25 hours into a charge right now with quite a bit of use. My battery just turned to yellow.

I have no idea where these issues with the battery keep coming up, mine has been nothing short of fantastic for a smart phone.

It's not my intent to compare the two devices but is it not a valid one nonetheless? The original point was to note that I can leave the iPhone on and untouched for 24 hours and have 90%+ battery life left. With WiFi and nothing else on. Doing the same with the EVO was promising for the first 18 hours (88%) but then a real issue during the next 8 hours (5%). Apples to apples (no pun intented)-No-but as close as I can get.

I'm FAR from an Apple Kool-Aid drinking fanboy. I'm 56 years old and this is my first Apple product. I do NOT like its closed system, iTunes or Apple's policies in general. Even ATTs nerwork where I live is marginal.

Why do I stay with it/them? Even with the compromises it simply works and works well. I've owned literally 50 PDAs and a similar number of phones. I'm willing to bet I'm more technically savvy than 90% of the people on these forums. I've upgraded firmware on Moto V300 and V400 so I do know my way around tech.

This isn't to say I can't or couldn't figure out what's going on with the EVO but that I do not want to invest the time to do so. For some quick trigger babblers that makes me a troll or worse. Sorry to burst your bubble but, unlike many of you here, apparently you don't mind spending countless hours tweaking. I've been there, done that. I think the EVO will require a fair amount of this on an ongoing basis. Just read the task killer threads. 'Task Killers are NOT needed". "Task killer saved me xxx% battery life", etc. Problem is both are likely right.

I think the EVO itself is a very good device. It's also a Gen1 4G device. How many 1st gen. tech devices are successful? Ask MS or Apple even. The answer is not many at all.

Cheers to those of you who have offered useful insight. I thank you. For the others I don't understand the defensiveness. You love the device and are happy. Great and I am for you as well. Why the over the top need to get defensive behind a keyboard? Lighten up and get over yourselves. Do you define your life by your phone? Sad if true. Step outside the narrow world you see and look at a bigger picture. It's only a tech toy. One you'll likely be bored with in one year.

HAHA your still here?! unsubscribe to your own thread so we don't have to smell ya. OK I have to get all techie on you for a sec. If you know anything about the networks you are comparing you would know that GSM on stand by will outlast CDMA on stand by for DAYS. So doing that kind of a comparison is not even fair if you don't understand the differences in the networks you are using. I have tested many CDMA networks in my line of work and can tell you that even though CDMA phones have a lot less battery life in general, your connection, voice quality, and over all usage experience will be much better. With GSM you get drop calls, have static connections but you get LONG BATTERY life. With any technology you have trade offs and thats just life.

Now if you have a yellow car that you love very much and someone comes along bashing it without looking under the hood to see why you like it so much wouldn't you feel like defending the thing? Yes I have called you a troll because you in fact do sound like a "FANBOY" and thats my opinion that I have shared just as you have shared yours about the phone. See give and takes. If you serve it up you will have to take the defensive posts just the same. Good luck in your adventures with locked up technology and a snooty company, paying twice the amount of money for a phone that gives you half of what our phone can do. Sure we will have to charge it more. But we can replace our batteries and our calls won't drop, oh oh and we will be able to hear the person on the other side.

Way too generalized a GSM vs. CDMA comparison. But whatever...

Well I do have to say I just cut my data plan in half today with ATT, to $15. Sprint now charges $30 + $10 (EVO tax). Before you go apoplectic and reach for the only (troll) button you have, I do acknowledge they are not both unlimited. And no I'm not going away. I started the thread. You though may easily unsubscribe. Now go away and play nice please.

LOL just trying to help someone get their facts straight. ANY GSM DEVICE will have longer battery life.

Really on the price? Now you want to go on about the price? What do you pay per month for your iphone? And if you looked at the sprint plan the $10 lifted the 5GB CAP on data, making it unlimited.

The childish responses in this thread are ridiculous. such animosity when someone addresses a legitimate gripe with the phone. I've noticed that no one on this board can review a phone objectively, and will outright lie to pretend their phone is flawless. Read the first days of the hero launch when these idiots claimed lag was a figment of my imagination.

The battery life sucks on this phone. Most of you all do too. This forum is an embarrassment to Android users everywhere. I won't be back, feel free to kill my account.

Its a troll.......

Spelled out:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2] In addition to the offending poster, the noun

As of today $49.54 after discount incl texts. EVO was $66 on Sprint, also after discount.

Next question..?

So basically, what your problem is, you didn't even look at Android before you bought the EVO. You just assumed it was going to be another iteration of the iPhone OS, and you're surprised it isn't.

Yeah, I don't think you know your tech as well as you claim, buddy.

Edit: Also, whatever plan for AT&T you have is not the standard customer plan. You and I both know no customer is going to get an iPhone with a plan that cheap.

People, ask yourself this:

If you are able to put EVERYTHING that the EVO has (hardware and software) on the Iphone....

Will the Iphone battery last exactly the same as it is now?

People talk about Iphone like it's literally the best phone ever made and has no cons, none whatsoever.

Wasn't battery life a major issue when the original Iphone came out? Or even the 2nd generation?

People like to forget that for some reason.

i can attest that my iPhone 3GS did last longer than the Evo with the same settings turned on. hell, i've been running Pandora since i got into work at 8:30 and i'm at about 67%. if i keep running Pandora, i'll have to charge when i get home. doing this, i wouldn't have to worry about the battery on my iPhone and i'd just put it on the charger before going to sleep.

the battery life is def the only con i can find with the device. but i really really really think it's because the Android OS needs better optimization.

even when i had the iPhone 3G, it wasn't quite as bad as this.
so you guys can hate on the iPhone all you want, but one thing it most certainly has over the Evo is battery life.

edit: however bad the battery life is, i will not return my device. this is just because the plan is overall cheaper versus what i had with ATT. battery life, or money? hmmm
plus, Android will keep vastly improving, optimizing. i'm not worried personally. and love my phone.

There was no 5GB cap on smartphone data plans. You're thinking of the mobile broadband plan, two different things. The debate about the extra $10 will rage on for centuries, but the one thing it's not for is uncapped data on smartphones.

i unplugged mine at 5:30 am after a full night charge. Its 11:30am and my batter is half full.....Done some light web surfing, decent amount of text and voice, and wifi on.....

My first full day with the phone netted me about 7 hours of heavy use......not great, not bad.....A thing called an electrical outlet and car charger solves the problem 99% of the time....

actually, I've been in 'play mode' with my evo the past few day, and I have to say, the battery life is absolutely great.

If you turn off the mobile network at night, use wifi when your home, remove auto brightness, etc, etc, you will get amazing battery life, all without ATK and similar apps

Unfortunate.

Really? I've owned a Hero and and an Inc. Please don't assume what you think I do.

As I stated it is the standard customer plans after discount as noted. Maybe you don't understand tech as well either. Did you pay attention to ATT's announcement last week?

Sort of my OP. Sorry I'm not going to turn off the data network at night. Frankly for a premium data fee I find that ironic at best and really insulting (not the advice, just the need to do it). I also stated I can leave WiFi on 24/7 on the iPhone. Why is this such an issue on the EVO? The rest, inc. auto brightness, I did.

What I don't understand is why anyone is wasting time arguing with anyone else, for the guy that returned the EVO, you shouldn't be on the EVO forum, for the people that disagree with his opinion, ignore him and he'll go away since he doesn't even have the phone anymore his opinion shouldn't matter to you, let it die already and enjoy the phone instead of fighting with someone that never should have bought it in the first place, hell, he probably had thirty posts saying he wasn't going to buy it if he couldn't get a notification light to flash on it for longer than five minutes so just consider the source and move on.

So then everything you've said is fud. Cool, thanks for playing.

$5-20 off still does not bring you down to $50. Sorry. Not even close.

For the second person to mention the LED light. Yes that was a deal breaker and yes I found a fix.

Again read my quote carefully. Ten times if needed.
