Wow seriously? When I used an iPhone I had to charge it every night. I don't really see how this is "jumping through hoops". Plug it in at night. Geez.

What YOU don't understand is you long ago lost any credibility. You want us to believe you didn't touch a brand new Evo for 24 hours. Sure right.

And you gave us NO information about what you found when you troubleshot it. What was your awake time. What was using the battery??

But honestly, I just don't believe you at all any more.

Ah maybe sprint pissed in his cornflakes on Friday and turned him down for trying to trick the credit responses. So now he wants to take it out on all the users who are loving the phone.....Its try typical internet trollism.

It's not that I don't believe the people who say they get terrible battery life -- I do, there's too many who have the same problem. It's just that in my 3 days of owning it, I haven't see it for myself. I don't look at my phone every few minutes, and I receive maybe 3 calls a day (though I did have 90 minute conference calls today & yesterday using the speakerphone). Now I'm not a power user -- I'd say I'm someone who uses the phone when I need to, or if I'm killing time, even though it's a new toy right now. That said ... I'm at 40% right now after unplugging from the charger 10 hours ago.

Maybe a year with the Pre has trained me to take it easy on a battery-sucking phone, I don't know. But I do hate that some people are having such a hard time with it -- this is truly an amazing piece of tech.

For what it's worth, I do have ATK installed.

Off charger at 5AM Sat. Everything except WiFi turned off (GPS, autosyncs, 4G, email, etc...) In other words exactly like my iPhone is set-up. Checked phone only twice since then. At 5PM 88% (Ok, not bad), at 6 AM this morning....red light flashing and 5% battery. WTH?

Sorry, I'm just not going to jump through hoops to basically turn into a dumb phone. Esp. not with the 'premium data fee'. Sorry...maybe next time around. For now it's back at Sam's where I picked it up Friday.

turn the mobile network off at night. That way there is no data, but u will still receive texts and calls...

What many here are failing to grasp is that I didn't touch the phone off charger but twice-to check battery status. With nothing touched between the two times why, if it was a rogue app, did that not manifest itself the first time I checked it?

Because rogue apps don't always act sensibly, thus the whole point of an app going rogue?

This wasn't a failure to grasp what you were saying. This is a failure of you even taking a moment to try and figure it out. It's a little bit late now to start getting curious, don't you think?

Really folks? Really?

Wow. For a second there, I thought the OP was killing women and children.

Many reviews have stated the EVO is dismal when it comes to battery charge. I tend to be one of those that always has his device on a charger (home, work, car) so I could not care less. I remember when folks complained about battery life on the BlackBerry Curve.

Point is, can the OP make a comment about his experience without people getting so wound up?

I'm not sure what people are expecting from this phone but whatever. I always get more than a day of use out this phone without having to charge it. And who keeps wifi on all the time anyway? I don't!

ur better than me :D I am ecstatic if I get 6 hours :D

I am new to smart phones and I guess I could see how someone could get upset if someone is only getting 4 hours of battery life on there phone with everything on, but lets be honest do you need to have everything on all the time ? I went to the Apple site and reviewed the battery life of the iPhone 3G as being to impressive to me ( note: I not a pro android or pro apple person)

To the person who started this thread be sure to check the battery life of your next phone from the manufacturers specs. I thinking a better solution for you might be a phone under 500Mhz and big battery that way you get better battery life. ( iPhone 2G)Apple - Batteries - iPhone

In closing I want to say that I was able to get 12 hours out of Evo while doing the following 45 minute phone call, games, compass, several hours of websurfing, videoing, taking a few pictures, and download several new apps, texting and writing a few e-mails. The real battery drains for me where friends stream which I uninstalled and turning off WiFi when the phone is in stand by mode.

Sorry to offend but you really jumped to conclusions about the phone and it's battery issues without attempting to resolve the issue. Same happened when I got my Hero but I worked throught it because I liked the phone.
So, yes to troll/puke.
If you come in to complain then you have to accept the crticism that comes with it.

Deal.

I don't all the rude ass comments... How is that constructive? The OP has an issue that he feels warrants him returning it. So? That's his opinion, why give him shit about it?

Probably because he was complaining about a loaded smartphone draining its battery from 100% to 5% over a 24-hour period. I've never been an iPhone owner, but my last 3 smartphones, I've had to charge it overnight to get through the next day -- I'd never really expect the phone to still be nicely charged even if I just let it sit for 24 hours unattended. Just not how it works these days.

Sadly, I don't have an EVO yet. But that does give me a chance to read the reviews on things like the battery so I can decide if I really want one.

I'm using a hero right now, and I can say battery life is very important to people like me who simply can not charge it during the day most of the time.

For those of you who work in an office or whatever, I know its all gravy for you, but I really don't understand why some people say things like " I just plug it at at work, at my PC or whatever and think it is the end of the problems.

I do construction, sometimes I can't charge it for periods of 12-14 hours, I would like to be able to use the phone and check out the things it was meant to do during the course of a day without being scared that it was going to die.

Most construction workers I know use Dewalt tools. Very nice tools...very nice batteries. Most of these construction workers also have multiple batteries on site. And chargers. And generators.

Not saying it's the right phone for you. I don't think I will always get 12 to 14 hours without a charge but right now I am. Also, the OP did as well.

Sorry to sound ignorant but I've always heard that it's not good to charge phones all night long because it messes with the battery "memory" is that still a problem?

He's not talking about 4 hour battery life, he's talking about 25 hour battery life.

No, modern day Li-Ion batteries such as cell phone batteries and laptop batteries aren't really effected by memory. in fact, heavy charge cycles where you dump it to failure and recharging the battery puts stress on the battery and actually makes it degrade. Another big factor in battery degradation is of course, heat.

No.. it is fine..
the tech in the new batteries and in the phones..
have safe gaurds that make sure there is no damage due to being on the charger too long.

I have seen some say... it is worse to let the battery die to 0.

Remember.. these phones dont Live to long in our hands... We update or change phones so often.. Battery deterioration has not efect on most of us, because it will be history!

Really? Are we not allowed to make basic points about flaws in the OP's logic? This isn't a matter of the EVO having bad battery life, this is about how a specific situation of bad battery likely caused by a rogue app or user error was blamed on the device without so much as a second thought as to the reasons why.

This thread wouldn't have made it past ten posts if it was simply "I had to return it, I wasn't getting the battery life I needed from it".

With the amount of things going on inside the Evo at all times, 25 hours of battery life, even if it's just sitting there looking pretty, is not something I'd return a phone over. But that's me :)

Fair enough... I cannot argue with that. I think a few folks were even constructive. But when our favorite internet cuss words start flying around (e.g troll, puke, etc.) it takes all reason out of a discussion.

I seriously feel people should understand that when others don't have the same star-struck adoration (self humbly included) that we have with the EVO, it is not an attack on our persons.

This honestly makes no sense. Why would someone be complaining about 25 hour battery life? I always thought hitting 24 hours was the goal with any phone since that means you only have to charge it when you go to sleep.

More importantly why would he be comparing batt life of an EVO to an Iphone? Everything about EVO is either bigger, Faster, and more radio's that require juice.

I mean there is HD video proc to consider. Then there is another radio (4G). 1gig Proc anyone that owns a pc knows that take juice. I mean there is ton of other reasons as why batt life should not be compared to an Iphone. The main one is the screen is also 1/3+ plus larger. The Iphone is like a coaster for me to put my EVO on.

I easily get a 8-10 hours of moderate to heavy use from my EVO. That being said though, I am never more then a couple hours away from a charge point (Work/Car/Home)
