I've been using the phone for about 8 hours. My battery is at 79%. Haven't had any issues.
I turn on the radios only when I need it. Blutooth when I get in the car. WiFi when I am at home, etc. 4G and GPS off.

If your new to smart phones, and especially to an Android phone such as the Evo, I'd suggest reading and watching blogs and video tips on how to conserve battery life. I went from 3 hours with the stock Evo to 8.5 hours today simply by reading about what settings and widgets to turn off and how to manage tasks on the phone.

no 4g doesnt kill your battery in 3 hours its lack of 4g that does... your problem is your phone is constantly looking for a new signal... and that in tail is whats eating your battery

I have about 10% battery left, It says it has been 12h 18m and 35s since unplugged..

Cell Standby 30%
Android System 28%
Phone Idle 25%
Display 8%
Dialer 4%
Android Live Wallpapers 3%
Voice Calls 2%

Says Up Time 33:47:28
Awake Time 8:49:31

I have Gmail pushing all day.. 2 other emails pushing every 2 hours, Twitter updating every hour, Facebook updating every hour.. But 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth all turned off.. So I think I have done ok as far as battery... I did even better on Saturday, I got 18 hrs that day

i like this idea. i'm getting an evo soon and those who say they're batteries die in 5 hours need to show some proof! what app are you running to see that stuff guys?

The Sprint MiFi card also has a 4 hour battery life when connected to 4G. Maybe this has nothing to do with the Evo but just the nature of 4G.

I am not a new Android user. I've had a Hero since October 13th or so. After the official 2.1 update, I could get nearly two days out of it with basic Twidroid, email, calendar and texting. Some phone calls, usually less than a hour. At the end of the night, I'd probably have 40% battery remaining. No task killers.

Got an EVO on Friday and the battery life is the complete opposite. I spent about 20 minutes this morning reading from Twidroid and my emails, and I lost 10% battery power. No roaming. I've got 5 or 6 bars of service. WiFi, WiMAX, GPS, and Bluetooth all disabled. The processor is supposed to be more efficient than the 528 mHz processors and I realize the screen would use more power, but I cannot justify the amazing power loss compared to the Hero when doing the same types of things on the phone. The way it stands right now, I cannot get a full work day out of the phone even by laying it on a table with excellent signal.

After reading the comments from the two sides, I am also thinking that there is a bad crop of batteries floating around.

i use my phone alot and stats or not. the battery life is not all that great for me. maybe i didnt fully discharge it before first full charge.

If you're making claims of good or bad battery life post pic's or most of us wont believe you.
someone post how to do it.

also could you guys give a brief rundown of your settings.. stock android, 4g off, task killer, etc. Maybe we can see who's constantly good and who's bad by that.

Battery is awesome compared to Incredible. I was charging the incredible 3 times a day and evo is lasting till 5 and Im surfing pretty good at work.

Im happy.

I don't have 4G in my area, so it's turned off. I don't use task killer, because after reading lots of reviews, I can see it's not needed. Hasn't affected my battery in any way.

Also my brightness is right in the middle, or a little less, and I am running a live background.

Thing is, I'm not constantly on my phone. I've used my phone like ive done my iphone for the past 2 years. There is no way I could have gotten this kind of battery life out of an iphone.

What's all this fuss about bettery life... Check out my screen shot and notice how many hours since last charge.... The battery still has about 25% left on it...

Heavy texting, some web browsing, Facebook use, sports and news on auto update...

Sent from my HTC EVO

Seems to be phone dependant/case by case basis... I took mine of the charger at 8am .. charged it between 10 and noon and got home at 5 and had less than 5% left with a warning to charge.... and a 2 hour charge its it quite a bit of juice...

I have 3G on and probably whats killing me is I have gmail, and a couple rss feeds on my Sense UI .... other than that no 4g and very very low use.... But to me its still worth it... I'll just buy me a couple extra batteries.. I get more use out of this than I did my laptop, and that only lasted 1.5 hours on a full charge.. so I can't complain....

I'll post mine tomorrow.. too late for me today since I've already had it plugged in for about 30 min.....

wish I saw this before lol Mine has been charging for 1.5 hours now lol I went about 12 hours ...

For those that asked.. (and I am NO tech person)

I don't use Friendstream, facebook or twitter - can't stand em :)

I turn everything off that I can't/don't use.. 4g (no purpose here), WiFi (can't use it at work), bluetooth (I see no point in leaving it on if I am not using it lol), GPS is off (I am sitting on my ass on the couch - not going anywhere lol)

I stream Pandora in the car on the way to/from work - 30 min each way

I AM a heavy texter with Handcent installed..

My emails are constantly going - have to for my job so that doesn't bother me.

I play games when on break/lunch at work (wordsearch, soduku (sp?), Assasin's or Zenonia)

I don't do much web surfing - never have been a huge surfer but will look something up when I need to..

Guess I am just lame :D

wow i am not sure what happend...
but i ditched the curvefish battery monitor i was using. i am using the battery indicator pro.
from when i disconnected from charging after writing my last msg here,
i noticed i was holding a good charge for some reason.
i was at 97percent at 7:17 when i took off charge. i have been txting light
internet light, a few phone calls, it is now 9:17 so thats 2hours. i am at 73percent. that is an amazing difference from before.
so only things different i have done was.

run SYSTEMPANEL which is really unbelievable how useful, and informative
this program is, i see every single thing that uses my cpu and how much memory they use etc. also learned some things about how the phone works such as the live background, htc sense uses verrry little power and only uses cpu when you are on the homescreen.

and run the battery indicator

and no i am not using atk to kill the running apps like i tried to before, tried to cheat around the system.

oh one more thing the ANDROID SYSTEM IS currently 26 percent

There is a problem with the flickr app that when you setup an account on the phone it causes the Calendar to keep the phone awake 100% (screen will go off but the phone won't sleep) So if anyone experiencing bad battery life has setup a flickr account on the phone that is why. Remove the flickr account and reboot the phone and everything will go back to normal.

I just think that some of the evos were shipped with bad batteries. I've done everything to help my battery. I'm only getting 5 hours of moderate use... twitter facebook sms and Gtalk. I love the phone but this battery issue is pretty lame. I just read that doing a hard reset should help... we'll see!!!
