Ok, current status: nearing nightly status. working with koush to get recovery updated from 2.5.x.x to 4.x.x.x as well as getting officially merged. he's also going to look into a possibility for why 2nd-init doesn't work with the GB kernels.
On the bug front: haven't had a chance to work out the gps wonky-ness, might have a fix for camera/camcorder (not ideal but it should work for now), and some other minor fixes![]()
News: Camera illusion is working on mine, and saves to the SD card. Decent quality pics.
Been a little chicken to flash this, but if Steven's done it-then why not. Will the monster zip take me there even though I'm on Liberty? Or, do I have to use the TBH app to get back to 596 first?
(Steven, me, that is)
I know you didn't mean that.
JK.Bottom line: Newbies? If you're comfortable about being adventurous and really want to experience this? Go for it. If you're not comfortable, you should wait, a bit, until it gets more stable for everyday use.

CM7 only has been a Release for a few months and has been ran on thousands of phones b4 that, include lil ol cheap ones like the huawei ascend which it was never intended for!i don't consider myself a newbie anymore...but im staying away for the time being as well...i just can't be without things like the GPS and camera...too much functionality lost to run this right now...
im supremely confident that things will be ironed out and that in a short period of time i will be running CM7 on my X and loving it completely....
i think it was P3Droid that tweeted the other night "Beta is just another way to say Broken with less letters" or something to that effect...and he is absolutely right...
the issues we are experiencing with CM7 are exactly what should be EXPECTED from a beta level software...i think we have been somewhat spoiled by our recent adventures with "beta" software...ApeX and Liberty were stable ROMS before Gingerbread, and the move to Gingerbread involved a lot of similar work...our leaks from Motorola were also quite a ways a long in the development process and luckily very stable....
but CM7 is a completely different beast here...so much custom ground up coding...very uncharted waters when it comes to a phone as locked down as ours are..
sometimes i think people don't TRULY understand what is meant when something is a "beta." We are lucky that the developers let us try it out because it helps them to track down bugs quicker the more people that are running it...but beta builds at the big corps are usually kept totally in house to never see the light of day for a reason...because in essence...they are broken...
You are right about the DX tho. If you can do w/o whats not working tho, you ever try CM7 you wont ever look back lol CM blows every other ROM out of the water hands down even as a beta

After reading the other thread, it turns out there is an issue with Cell Standby. Sure enough, mine has been running high around 40%.
Just from my last post to now, I dropped another 10%.
Pretty sure it is a bug.
Does "nightly" mean that there will be an update every night?
What kinds of fixes do these nightlies usually provide? Seems like a lot of updating for toms that are already supposed to be the most stable. Appreciate the info on how the updates work also.
Didn't know that. I figured much less bloat was running in the backround.available memory is not really relevant in Android
My battery life isn't impressive but I'm at 39% cell standby. Charger at home, work, and in my car though so I will continue to play w/ CM7.This thing has stellar battery life. It's been unplugged for 9 hours, with light-medium use and still 80% life. I'm on Moto's extended battery, but still that's crazy.
I don't think I'll ever turn back.
