Root [BETA]Cyanogen!! Landed!!! :) Go get it![Updated 7/12/2011]

OMFG! after the failed attempt (my fault, entirely) to load this and get it running fully this morning at work....
And now the successful attempt this evening, this CM7 rocks!
If it had a working camera, it would be better than sliced bread.
No bloat, no lag, what a fine machine the DX really is with proper management!
Looking forward to a camera app that will work, and better GPS, dayum! this could be a viable handset for a long time now.

All good news
Ok, current status: nearing nightly status. working with koush to get recovery updated from 2.5.x.x to 4.x.x.x as well as getting officially merged. he's also going to look into a possibility for why 2nd-init doesn't work with the GB kernels.

On the bug front: haven't had a chance to work out the gps wonky-ness, might have a fix for camera/camcorder (not ideal but it should work for now), and some other minor fixes :D

CI is working, a slight graininess, but still clear, I have not yey tried Vignette, but may do so to find out if it works... stand by
No dice on Vignette, claims it saved the picture, not to be found. One shot is all you get and you have to start the app each time you take a picture.

How's everyone's battery life doing?

Mine is pretty bad. At least not as good as on zombiestomped, that is for sure. I was going around 2 days on that.

I just dropped to 70% after 3 hours or so on CM7. Same usage as compared to zombie.\

How often do they plan on updating CM7? Hopefully they get the GPS worked out first, because that is prob the most impt.

my battery isn't great, but I've been playing with it a lot, so its to be expected. Have to let it settle down before I make any real judgements about it

After reading the other thread, it turns out there is an issue with Cell Standby. Sure enough, mine has been running high around 40%.

Just from my last post to now, I dropped another 10%.

Pretty sure it is a bug.

Does "nightly" mean that there will be an update every night?

wow, just checked mine and cell standby is 46%, lets hope that its a bug that gets fixed soon. along with the gps and camera issues. those are really the only things that affect me the most

Been a little chicken to flash this, but if Steven's done it-then why not. Will the monster zip take me there even though I'm on Liberty? Or, do I have to use the TBH app to get back to 596 first?

Yeah, if that idiot can flash it anyone can! :p (Steven, me, that is) ;) :p I know you didn't mean that. ;) JK.

Ok, my feelings on this are that it's fun, but it isn't stable enough, at this time, to use as a full-time fully functional rom, so I'm back on stock GB rooted and modded. To be fair, however, no one claimed it was stable.

Bottom line: Newbies? If you're comfortable about being adventurous and really want to experience this? Go for it. If you're not comfortable, you should wait, a bit, until it gets more stable for everyday use.

i don't consider myself a newbie anymore...but im staying away for the time being as well...i just can't be without things like the GPS and camera...too much functionality lost to run this right now...

im supremely confident that things will be ironed out and that in a short period of time i will be running CM7 on my X and loving it completely....

i think it was P3Droid that tweeted the other night "Beta is just another way to say Broken with less letters" or something to that effect...and he is absolutely right...

the issues we are experiencing with CM7 are exactly what should be EXPECTED from a beta level software...i think we have been somewhat spoiled by our recent adventures with "beta" software...ApeX and Liberty were stable ROMS before Gingerbread, and the move to Gingerbread involved a lot of similar work...our leaks from Motorola were also quite a ways a long in the development process and luckily very stable....

but CM7 is a completely different beast here...so much custom ground up coding...very uncharted waters when it comes to a phone as locked down as ours are..

sometimes i think people don't TRULY understand what is meant when something is a "beta." We are lucky that the developers let us try it out because it helps them to track down bugs quicker the more people that are running it...but beta builds at the big corps are usually kept totally in house to never see the light of day for a reason...because in essence...they are broken...

Oh man I missed CM7.1 lol. This is sweet!!!!!!!! And finally get to use DarkGinger on it!!!!

BTW they're alpha builds of darkginger for the stock ota too ;)

CM7 only has been a Release for a few months and has been ran on thousands of phones b4 that, include lil ol cheap ones like the huawei ascend which it was never intended for! ;) You are right about the DX tho. If you can do w/o whats not working tho, you ever try CM7 you wont ever look back lol CM blows every other ROM out of the water hands down even as a beta :P

i agree...its just that its a minor miracle that its even running on the X in its current state...the fact that it is up and running as smoothly as it is, is quite the accomplishment...

Does "nightly" mean that there will be an update every night?

Nightlies from the CyanogenMOD team, but not necessarily from CVPCS and/or P3Droid. But CVPCS did say last night that he was going to try to get it setup through ROM manager so the nightlies would be avail. He would basically have to take the generic CM7 source and push into CM7DX.

When I had my Droid Eris, guys were making custom ROMs and two or three times a week, they would patch their ROM with the latest from CM MOD. Occasionally a nightly would break something on the Eris, so it would need a little bit extra attention before patching.

If our phone was "officially" supported, then you could just pull these down each day.

What kinds of fixes do these nightlies usually provide? Seems like a lot of updating for toms that are already supposed to be the most stable. Appreciate the info on how the updates work also.

So finally got around to flashing cm7 last night, made a test call before bed to make sure it worked and it did, get up this morning try to make a call, no go, *228 just bc, reboot it works now, make a call receive a calm, then goes back to not working....just tried it and now its working again...data and sms have been working the whole time so idk, just hope it keeps working

available memory is not really relevant in Android
Didn't know that. I figured much less bloat was running in the backround.
This thing has stellar battery life. It's been unplugged for 9 hours, with light-medium use and still 80% life. I'm on Moto's extended battery, but still that's crazy.

I don't think I'll ever turn back.
My battery life isn't impressive but I'm at 39% cell standby. Charger at home, work, and in my car though so I will continue to play w/ CM7.

There is much, much less bloat running in the background. But using ram is different from using the cpu. The cpu is what drives battery drain.
