Do it!! Flash the Rom!! It Rocks!!:D:p

Hi all, my phone is no longer booting. It freezes on the blue android word that fades in and out. My phone was off over night. I turned it on and pushed and held the camera button to take a picture and it from froze. Now it will not boot. Any ideas or ways to debug? I used team win to wipe the cache and davik cache. No luck.

Restore a nandroid is the best thing to do...

I have had the freeze on the "android" screen three or four times. I was able to get it to boot (once) after I cleaned the caches and fixed permissions. I just installed the latest 2.53 and it worked fine for about an hour but then again froze on the android screen after a re-boot. I just did another install from a nandroid and so far so good.

I was running 2.00 for over a month when suddenly it locked up and would not reboot. I was thinking that I must have a hardware issue, but I have read of at least two people with similar issues.

Anyone else?

Merc, any thoughts about what might be going on here??

I haven't yet used nandroid. I'd rather not have to take backups constantly and worry about permalocks either.

16 hours later and I just understood what you meant oops...

Nandroid backups are ALWAYS necessary. Remember you're rooted, things can go wrong, I'm sure everybody has had to flash a nandroid or a rom again at least once due to problems. They will happen eventually, not often, maybe only once, so it's necessary to make nandroid backups no matter if it's a good ROM or if it's a not so good one. I'd rather not make backups either as they use quite a bit of space, but it is very necessary, always.

Maybe a reflash using the super wipe tool? Could be residual data...?

Honestly no clue. I haven't had that issue at all on my DD or my dev unit. What exactly happens when this occurs? Does the unit shut itself down, or the reboot option ceases to work, or... ?

The first time it happened was when I installed 2.0 rc1. After the install I went through the normal account setup and loaded some apps. After a reboot it hung on the android screen and I had to do a battery pull to reboot it. The android screen freeze happened on each reboot. I then re-downloaded the rom, it installed and ran fine for over a month (maybe two months).

My wife had the phone lock up on her while I was out of town. I had her try several things but finely had to have her go back to a nandroid. Last week I flashed 2.53 and the phone was fine for several minutes. I did a power off and it hung on the android screen again. Once more I went to a nandroid.

Currently she is away in Ireland and I am in Scotland. When she gets back here I'll try a superwipe and let you know how it goes.

As I said earlier I thought I was having a hardware issue until I read that a couple of people had a similar issue.

Sounds like a bad flash to me. When I first flashed Warp OEM I had the same issues with it freezing up on the blue android and seemed to crash and reboot every 10 minutes or so. It would lock up sometimes during the splash screen but mostly on ANDROID. I got fed up with it and restored a nandroid of a different ROM.
Then, I went and did a SuperWipe, REDOWNLOADED the rom to my computer, moved it to my SD card and tried again. BAM!!! Worked like a charm. Im fairly convinced that SuperWipe is one of the best tools to keep on ur SD card if you flash different roms.

Ok, Normally when something like this happens to me, and it does, I do a factory data reset twice, flash the super wipe tool Dizzle provided for us Once, Clear both caches Twice.

Then I reflash the Rom fresh. Afterward, I clear both caches again.
Reboot.:)

Hi Guys,

I ended up reinstalling the ROM and started using nandroid on both mine and my wifes phone.

Does anyone know what the default weather/news app on the original rom was? My wife liked that app for news. If not, any other good news apps?

Also, if my wifes phone sits for a while and you push the power button to wake it up, it takes 5-10 seconds for the lock screen to load and then another 5 seconds for the lock screen to actually function. Any idea why this would be? We have the exact same phone purchased at the exact same time with the most recent version of OEM installed.

Thanks

Just like a car or a computer takes time to warm up, phones need to warm up a bit too before they can start running their tasks. They're miniaturized computers anyway. Also, if her phone is more loaded up with apps than yours (like mine is) then it'll take longer to start up (I ran a logcat while the phone was booting, you'd be surprised how much the phone does if its loaded up) and it'll take longer to warm up too.

Hope this helps...
