Root cant get to recovery

When I try to get to recovery mode (using any method) I get sent to (what i think is) the Fastboot screen. (green words first (S is OFF) then "FASTBOOT" in red/white, then orange words, then the options "Bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, then power down)

I hit "bootloader" then the options "fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, and hboot usb" are available. I hit Recovery, i get the white HTC EVO screen, then im brought back to the fast boot screen... What do I do to get to the recovery menu? I've done multiple reset, and tried hitting almost every button (the ones i know what they do at least). Help please...

Sounds like you lost recovery or something happened to the partition. What recovery did you have before? You can find PC36IMG.zip files for versions of both CW and RA in my sig. Pick whatever you had before, and follow the instructions to flash it. Let's see if you can get recovery back that way.

Sorry, I'm not quite learned enough to fully understand the post in your sig. Are you saying that I lost CW? Idk how that would happen, but if that's the problem, how would I fix it? The page you sent me too is a bit complicated for me :/

Basically you will download the pc36img.zip file for cw 2.6.0.1 and then place it on the root of your SD card. Then go to hboot and it will find it automatically and ask you to update. Say yes and that should so it.

Make sure it is a .zip and you have it named pc36img or it will not find it.

Right. Find the mediafire link in that post. Download the PC36IMG.zip file for CW 2.6.0.1. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip, and follow the instructions from there. If you have any issues, just let us know.

So I downloaded cw 2.6.0.1 from the mediafire link, put it on the root of my SD card, renamed it "PC36IMG.zip", then booted the FASTBOOT menu>BOOTLOADER>HBOOT USB, and all that happened, was the words above changed from "HBOOT" to "HBOOT USB" and either no matter what menu I was on, when I hit RECOVERY, the same thing happened... Please tell me i just did something wrong...

Why did you go to hboot USB? Just turn off your phone. Hold down volume while still holding volume down press and hold power till hboot comes up...if its named right and in the right place it'll flash it

If it doesn't flash it then its named incorrectly remove the. Zip and try again. Out of curiosity do you have s-off ?

Rename it pc36img.zip. before you drop it in your SD card ....(just saying cause your post sounded like u hadn't)

I did. I tried it again. I renamed it "pc36img.zip" placed it on my sd card root, shut off phone, rebooted (power/vol down), and gave it another shot. Every time I hit recovery, it just flashes the HTC EVO white screen. Everytime I hit that, it brings me back to the Fastboot menu, then I hit Bootloader, and it takesm e back to the HBoot screen, freezes for a second, and then some green letters come up, and they go away really quick, but it looks like it says "SD checking " pc36img.zip (or something with pc36 in it) NO Image!" Then it goes away and im back at the Hboot menu...

Yeah its looking for that file you downloaded. Did you remove .zip from the name? If not do so. Try again. Is it on the top level of your SD card? Not in any folder at all? Do you in fact have s-off in hboot?

ok on your pc right click the pc36 file and select properties and make sure is not pc36img.zip.zip.. if it is rename it but do not put the ".zip" at the end of it...then drop it again.... if it still dont work boot your phone up and down load terminal emulator from the market and complete the fallowing:

1) Verify you don't already have flash_image (open terminal and type "which flash_image". If it just says not found, you need to flash it. If it gives you a location (most likely /system/bin/flash_image) your ROM already has this, and you can skip to step 4.
2) Flash flash_image-signed.zip from recovery.
3) Reboot normally when done.
4) Extract recovery.img from the PC36IMG.zip for the recovery you want
5) Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
6) From the terminal type:

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

Lol that's MORE difficult...:)

well if both these dont work then he will know his file is bad thats all I was trying to establish..and honestly thats how I did mine the " just finding it in boot loader" never worked for me when switching recovery. I had to do it this way.

Are you using the stock card or a different one? That can also make a difference when trying to flash PC36IMG.zip files.

Did u update your flash recovery recently this happen to me before when I updated my recover in Rom manager I just hit the update thing again and everything was fixed I guess the update got messed up or something the first time

Yup. That was it. I thought it wasa little weird to manually put the file extention in, but im still slightly noobish to rooting, so didnt question it. All better now. Thanks for the help guys:)

Hey guys I am very new to all of this. I am having just about the exact same problem. I am stuck in the screen you get after you hold volume down and power. Almost everything I do takes me back to the htc 4g screen and it just loops there. I am pretty sure I need to flash a new pc36img but how can I save it to my sd card when my computer does not recognize my phone???

What recovery do u have if u have one?

And for your computer have u checked device manager to see what it says for whatever drive your using for your phone.. ie F drive

If your computer is not recognizing your phone first step is install htc sync. It will install the drivers that you need for your computer to recognize your phone.....
