CheckROM Revolution HD now out!

ur right capelli. I think it is related to the rom. lots of people on xda suddenly reporting this as a problem. cannot see that anyone has a solution yet though!! if you use google maps a lot, keeping checking checkrom thread on xda.
otherwise try bing maps for android

As you guys are so helpful I wonder if you might be able to shed some light on this one.

Google maps, shows in my apps as needing an update but when i try to update it just hangs, never completes.
Any idea what I can do to resolve it?

Sounds as though it might be a known Market problem.

Have a look at item 2 under, "Ongoing issues", entitled, "Market stuck on "Starting download", here:-

https://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=known_issues.cs

Failing that, keep an eye as I previously suggested, on the xda developers thread for this ROM in case they come up with a solution. After all... they'll be the first to know.

[ROM][XXKI4][2.3.5] CheckROM RevolutionHD V2.0.0 |Super Optimized|DK Kernel is live! - xda-developers

Hope this helps. :D

Hi guys. Sorry but fairly new to all of this. This ROM is for v2.3.5. I'm running v2.3.4 with cf root XWKI4 kernel. Will this ROM still work on my device ? Also, should i flash to the Siyah kernel ? Searched high & low, can't seem to find a concrete answer. Thanks in advance....

Yes you can just flash the rom and it will work. Once installed you'll have the kitchen app and from this you can instal any number of kernels including siyah.

you don't have to change the kernel, I found the Hellcat kernel it comes with very good, and have just switched to speedmod which on 1st impressions seems awsome. play around with a few!

But siyah does bring other goodies to speed up your phone and improve battery - lots love it (for me, it causes lag and doesnt work well, but I'm in the minority!)

for the latest siyah kernel go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838 or for a new kernel made by siyah and checkrom, go here http://checkrom.com/threads/kernel-siyah-v2-1-darkknight-beta1.157/ (although this is in beta testing) - neither of these are available in kitchen app yet

Has anyone managed to get screen capture to work? I've had a search and the only solution anyone seems to have is to instal screen capture from the kitchen. I've tried that and everything looks like its flashed but when my phone boots there's no sign of it and screen capture still won't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know your sorted now butty, but just for everyone's information, screen capture is a Samsung (not android) feature, and is installed via an .apk file

Its in the Kitchen as a separate download now, but it is also part of the samsung apps package. If you download (not install) the "Samsung all removed widgets/Apps" this creates XXKI4_Samsung_all_removed_apps.zip (72 mb) and in there is a file called ScreenCaptureService.apk which is the samsung app to do the screen capture

Great. thanks. So just disregard this under the Notes....
"REMEMBER THE ROM IS BUILT ON XXKI4 2.3.5 - Do not confuse it with XWKI4 2.3.4"

Also, should i wipe it first ?

Yes. This refers to 2 different versions of ki4 firmware, and there were lots of questions to the developer as to which he was using. He got rather irritated, hence this comment.

This 2.3.5 rom will work perfectly well if installed onto your current set up. Just do a full wipe first.

Oh, and make sure you do a nandroid backup first through cwm, as well as backing up apps and data on titanium.

You have to download and install the screen capture mod from the kitchen for it to work.

ALSO as stated earlier...if that doesn't work make sure you did a full wipe before installing. That is to say if you came directly from a different Rom. I had this problem even after installing the kitchen app.
But I also had to install the mod from within the kitchen app going from 1.0 to 2.0. Works fine now.

Jumped the gun & flashed w/no wipe. I was coming from stock tho. Backed up with Titanium too. So far, so good. Can't access my date/time & accuweather widgets tho...

you can download missing samsung apps from the kitchen app - these are removed as "bloatware" by the dev, but he gives you the option of adding them back in - search the kitchen and you will find.

others have flashed with no wipe and had no problems - if anything does go wrong you can always wipe and reinstall

enjoy:D

Thanks a ton guys ! I just use the date/time & weather widgets. That's it. I'm glad he gives us the option of re-installing some of the bloat. Phone is running alot smoother now. U guys are great !

I love how easy it is to backup your /efs folder now into a handy zip file that using root manager , you can copy to your pc or macs desktop. Genius. ;)

Now that i have this CheckROM Rev HD, should i backup via Titanium or CWM ? I thought i would have to restore after flash, but EVERYTHING was still there like nothing ever happened. Also, how would i go about flashing a diff. kernel for this ROM ? I guess i can use CWM ? Like i said earlier, i'm fairly new to this.... Thanks

Always use CWM in recovery to back up your system first. Use Titanium to back up specific programs. Also handy for freezing apps , bloatware etc.

AND please do as my previous post suggested and back up your /efs folder. :)
I'll be beating that drum a long time yet. ;)

So CWM will backup my current ROM (CheckROM Rev) ? What's that /efs folder for, and how do i back that up ? Sorry for the noob questions....

Firstly yes CWM will back up EVERYTHING! This is one way to ..whats known as a nandroid backup. Do it :D

Now onto my friend the efs folder;

I recommend Getting Root explorer from the market then zipping the efs folder onto a external SD.
I think the kitchen app has a efs backup mod under utilities also. Check your sd on the pc after. It contains valuable information including your IMEI. I corrupted my efs once and made my phone an expensive media player. ITs wise to back up :)

May help also.

Another easy option is flashing the Helkat kernal from the kitchen app and using the Helkat tool app to do it for you. You can easiely flash back to whichever kernal you prefer.

Also I believe Hawker mentioned to me the Siyah kernal auttomatically does this for you so may be worth plugging in your phone to the pc and check your phone using disk mode. If you see an EFS folder make a copy and save it somewhere safe incase. :)
Many ways to skin a cat. :)

CheckROM Revolution HD v2.0.0 is awesome...
the videos that go along with the XDA forum posting helped a android newb like me go through the process of upgrading my sgs2 experience. I would highly recommend this, the ice cream sandwich "theme" in the rom kitchen app is very nice.

I have File Expert. Is the efs stuff ur talking about a .tar file, .img file, or i have a zip file that says efs.tar.gz ? ?
I just used that HC-kTool app. It has that "Backup EFS to /sdcard/efs.img" option. Sweet !

Has anyone noticed a difference in battery life through various kernels ? I have CF-Root now, & it doesn't seem much better after i flashed CheckROM Rev....

Edit: Just realized it has Hellcat's 1.24 kernel...
